Hello all.
I'm fairly new to Sleuth and I thought I might share a little hobby of mine with you all. Here's something for that sad moment when the mysteries of the day are all done.

Thousands lay up gold within this house,
but no man made it.
Spears past counting guard this house,
but no man wards it.
What is it?

If someone wrote it earlier, then sorry:

A man is watching TV.
Then he stands up from his chair, moves up on the stairs, lights the light and he commits suicide. (it was daylight.)

WHAT WAS HIS JOB?

The man was a lighthouse keeper - he saw a news story about a shipwreck and realized he'd not turned on the light the previous evening.

I went to the hardware store and asked for one; the clerk told me it would be 12 cents. I thought about getting 50 - a deal at only 24 cents, but then the clerk informed me that 144 would only cost 36 cents. I wound up only getting six. What did I buy and how much did it cost me?

you were buying address numbers and it cost you 12 cents for six.

I'll have to come up with another one later. Watch this space! ;-)

Ok got one,

A detective was questioning a suspect about where he hid some secret plans, after intensive interrogation, the suspect finally gave in.

"Go to the Library, find the book "Death on The Nile", you will find the secret plans between pages 97 and 98"

The detective looked at him and said "Your lying, now where are they really"

The suspect gave in and divulged the true location of the plans.

How did the detective know the suspect was lying?

It has to do how pages are numbered in books. Even numbers are always on the right pages so there is nothing in between 97-98 (hehehe is the same page) . Could have been between 96-97 0r 98-99

I shall apologize if someone has posted this one before and would request anyone who knows this already, please PM me or wait for some new one to answer. A mail came to my father containing a challenge for mathematicians. Here's the question, if:
1=5
2=100
3=120
4=180
5=?
You need to find the answer.
I won't give any hints right now.
