October 24, 1938- Heimlich VonVIctor felt a chill run down his spine. Autumn always had that effect on him. He looked up at the multitude of colors adorning the trees and placed his hands in his coat pockets. The pungent aroma in the air told him that, somewhere, leaves were being burnt. He took a deep breath and looked down, to the place he had visited as many times as he could in the past two years. The cold hard stone hadn’t changed a bit, and never would. It would always be a testament to the man resting under it.

RICHARD CAMBRIDGE
FEBRUARY 10, 1892-
JUNE 15, 1936
“Justice for all. Above all else.”

He took a deep sigh. He never left anything behind, nor did he suspect that Richard would want anything left for him. He leaned down and placed his hand on the stone, “I’m doing alright Richard. Eric and I started up another agency. We’re doing it right this time, and Sergei is getting better at English every day. He’s even solving cases now; you wouldn’t believe how well he’s doing.”

“Excuse me, detective VonVictor?” a voice called behind him

Heim whirled around to find himself face to face with a young uniformed officer, “What do you want?” he demanded, “Can’t you see I’m in a cemetery?”

“Yes sir,” he responded, “and I’m terribly sorry to disturb you, but I’ve been asked to fetch you right away, it’s a matter of life and death!”

Heimlich let out a sigh, and leaned down to touch the stone again, “It never ends Richard, it never ends. I have to go now, but I’ll be back real soon.”

Heimlich took one last swing at Albert, letting him fall to the ground, and broke down in tears as he turned to leave. "You just don't get it!" he yelled, "You just don't get it Albert! This isn't the way a family is meant to be!"

Albert looked up at Heimlich. "Heim... I'm sorry, there's just no other way." he said.

Heimlich cast a cold look at him. "You just don't get it..." he said.

“Hm…” Riza Hawkeye thought to herself as she lurked behind one of the file cabinets. “How am I going to get out with this thing without being seen?”

She rubbed her hand up and down the barrel of her gun, wondering if it would really be necessary to use it. “One shattered vase couldn’t hurt,” she thought, smirking, and raised her pistol, taking aim at a nice vase just opposite from the door.

She was just about to pull the trigger when suddenly a commotion at the front desk reached her ears.

"It's wrong!" a man’s voice yelled, "It just has to be!"

"Hey! You can't take that!" the woman screamed after him as he dashed out the door, clasping a file in his hand and looking very distraught.

The man looked vaguely familiar; Riza was sure she had seen him somewhere before. But there was no time to dwell on that now. The receptionist was chasing him, screeching. Perfect. Riza took the opportunity to hurriedly slip something into her pocket and steal out one of the open windows.

She went back home and laid down to rest. Then suddenly she shot bolt upright. That man! Heimlich VonVictor! “Of course!” she muttered as she grabbed her weapons and ran out into the street, reminiscing.

There was no way she was going to miss out on some action. It had been…what...ten years now that she had joined the other side?

As Riza ran back towards the center of the city, she remembered the item in her pocket. She sighed. “Ok, Mayor Hollis, the pay better be worth the effort,” she said to no one in particular as she made a detour and ascended the steps at City Hall.

Always the unconventional one, she threw herself in through the mayor’s open window. It was dark inside. “Guess he’s not here,” she said, annoyed, and plopped herself down in the mayor’s chair. She was getting bored.

After a few minutes of drawer opening and closing, a sharp gasp erupted from Riza’s mouth. She couldn’t believe what she was seeing. So that was why he wanted this document! The reality of the situation hit her as she realized that she had once again found herself on the wrong side of the law.

The doorknob rattled. The mayor! Riza hastily exited through the window and dashed down the street, her boots clicking loudly.

Five minutes later she found herself outside of VonVictor’s house. She rapped on the door. It was opened by a very surprised looking Marc.

“Hello there, Marc. I need to talk to Heimlich. Where is he?” she asked, pushing past him into the house, looking around.

“He hasn’t returned yet,” Marc answered, “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing, I just saw Heim at the Hall of Records, then I saw something when I was at…hold on” Riza said, turning to Marc. “What are you doing here?”

As he filled her in on the story, Riza’s eyes gradually widened. Her hand instinctively reached for the bunch of papers in her pocket. Just then, someone walked into the room.

Zeo and Anais entered into the Heimlich's living room and were surprised to see Riza in the house. "What are you doing here?" Zeo echoed.

"Riza said she need to talk to Heimlich," Marc replied, "whom I though was with you..."

"He went off to chase another lead, or so he said. So the two of us examined the body of the day time security guard John Kincaid. It's already dark out, is he not back yet?" Zeo questioned.

"The last I saw him, he was making a scene at the Records department." Riza said. Zeo noticed that she had her hand in her pocket, and seemed to be clenching onto something inside. Zeo wondered if his decision to lend Heimlich an access card was a right one. Lately the man seemed quite disturbed, but Zeo could not quite put his finger to it.

Charlie was sitting on the couch resting his head, neither Molly or Vulkie was in sight. "Where are your partners?"

"Molly/Vulkie's in the bathroom freshening up." Both men replied at about the same time. Anais volunteered to go to check on the girls after she greeted Riza warmly ((sorry Anais/Riza, i forgot how your relationship is like in RP, please excuse me if i RP it incorrectly)).

Marc briefed Zeo on what he had told Riza, and went on to fill Zeo and Charlie in about what happened to them at the museum. No wonder why Molly needed to freshen up. Charlie also informed the group about Vulkie's dinner date with a Joe Davis, apparently an arm and leg for the Order. "I'm not comfortable with the lady going on a date with the enemy, especially a weirdo with his ear pierced." Charlie concluded.

Pierced ear? Zeo remembered the stud silver earring he found in the tunnel, and always thought the wearer must have been female. He knew that for the sailors, a pierced earlobe often signify the wearer to have sailed around the world. Could that earring belong to be man? Perhaps Zeo could ask Vulkie to drop the earring on the floor while she have dinner with this Davis person in the evening and see how he'd react.

"So what did you and Anais found out?" Charlie asked Zeo.

The thin detective lit a Chesterfield and exhaled, "Barnes thread in Kincaid's fingernail was definitely planted. The day time guard was in a car accident and just had his fingers removed from a cast few days before his murder. Whoever did this didn't know about it, but a simple x-ray from the coroner proofed that Kincaid could not have been able to grab hold of anything with his weak finger joints. Also, the death blow was to the back of his head from a relatively high angle, not high enough to be from an attack from above, but his attacker must have been at least about 6 feet tall. I'd give Barnes a 5'7" at most."

The three man continued to talk with Riza and waited for either the girls to return from their bathroom visit, or for Heimlich to finally show up. Zeo looked at his watch, it was about 6pm. If Vulkie was to meet for his dinner date, she better hurry up.

((apologies about the timing. I checked the sun setting hour at NY in October, and it's at about 6pm. I need justify Riza's 'dark outside' comment and Vulkie's bathroom trip, so i hope it is not too odd.))

Molly nodded stiffly at Vulkie, squeezing past her as she exited the bathroom. In the hall she passed the woman named Anais and introduced herself, pausing for some chit-chat before excusing herself for a smoke.

With merely a nod at the assembled group in the hall, she skirted the gathering and quietly opened the front door, reaching for her cigarette case as she did so. She closed the door behind her, holding her now damaged coat around her as she sat down on the ice-cold step.

She felt odd. Granted she knew she was probably shrugging off a bit of the shock from her encounter, and the blow to her head was catching up with her. Her vision was a tiny bit fuzzy around the edges, and in the bathroom, such close quarters she had worried it might get the best of her.

In short, she didn't feel like herself. For the first time in a long time she was a bit unsure, nervous. Fear, irrational as it may be was getting the best of her. Not that getting locked in practically airtight boxes was frequent in her line of work, it was still quite the experience.

"Snap out of it Molly." she murmured, rubbing her eyes with the heels of her hands. It was quite cold, but that helped her focus a bit.

Riza winced as Anais ran up to her with a big smile on her face and proceeded to give her a hug. “Riza! I haven’t seen you in so long! How are you, what’ve you been up to?” she asked, all in a split second. Riza sighed, remembering these moments all too well. “We can catch up later.”

“Ok then! Come by my place sometime and we can have tea and…” Anais continued as she walked out of the room to check on the girls.

“Put that out, Joseph, you know I don’t like people smoking around me,” Riza complained, shooting him a look. “Sorry,” he muttered, and put it out.

The conversation turned from polite greetings to the case they were working on. All the while, Riza grew more uneasy. Her hand was grasping the papers so tightly that it was cutting off circulation to her arm. “Look guys, there’s something I have to tell you,” Riza finally started, but was interrupted by Vulkie and Anais entering the room. A moment later Molly entered from outside, letting in a stream of cold air. She looked a bit on edge.

Everyone turned to look at her. Molly just said, “What did I miss?” putting on a forced smile. “Riza was just about to tell us something,” Charlie offered helpfully. Riza took a deep breath, knowing what she was giving up by doing the right thing, and proceeded to explain.

“A week ago I was hired by Mayor Hollis to acquire a document of some importance to him from the Hall of Records. Of course it was one of my underground friends who alerted me to the job. It wasn’t until today, don’t ask how, that I discovered why he needed that document so badly.”

Everyone was positively rapt with attention now. Why was she nervous? Riza Hawkeye was never nervous. Slowly she drew out the bunch of papers in her hand and dropped them on the coffee table. “Here it is. I didn’t give them to him. And I think you guys really need it now, after hearing your story. I didn’t know what Hollis was planning before. You can just have them.”

Riza plopped down on the couch, sighing. Joseph picked up the document and started reading, his eyes widening. The front door opened.

"Some lipstick... Some lotion... That should do the trick..." Vulkie murmered and she was done.

Still blond haired and in a nice dress, she entered the living room.

"I've just explained to Joseph what you've been up to..." Charlie said, then immediately Riza interrupted with : "Nothing, I just saw Heim in the Records." and right after that, Anais yelled : "Riza, haven't seen you in a while"

It was like a big reunion. Joseph whispered to Vulkie : "I need to speak with you, about Davis". Vulkie nodded and went with Joseph to the kitchen.

"This earring may belong to him" Joseph said, placing an earring on the kitchen table. "Try to drop it "in front of him" and look at his reaction..." Joseph said and Vulkie nodded.

The two detectives went back to the living room, when Riza pulled up a bunch of papers. "Take a look at this..." Riza said and Joseph began to read.

Just then, the front door opened. Heimlich entered, his shirt all bloodied. Everyone began to yell : "Heimlich, IS EVERYTHING ALRIGHT?"

Vulkie rushed towards him and placed him in a chair, with a glass of brandy.

"Now, people, just give him some time... He needs his rest..." Vulkie said and Heimlich sighed.

"I can't believe he did it..." Heimlich said. "Who did what Heimlich?' Anais asked, a bit trembling.

"Albert... He.... He.... He placed Valerie up for adoption..." Heimlich replied and tears began to flow. "Now there there..." Molly mused and Vulkie took a napkin and dried Heimlich's tears. "Why's all that blood on your shirt Heimlich? You don't seem to be wounded..." Marc said, a bit hesitating.

"I.... I "bashed" Albert against the wall, broke his nose and make him feel how his late wife felt when she was beaten up...." Heimlich replied.

Just then, the radio began to crack...

*** Special News!***

"We interrupt this programme, because of a special announcement. It has recently come to hear that Albert VonVictor, the brother of Heimlich VonVictor, late lawyer, has been beaten up by his own brother! Mr. Albert VonVictor replied with : "I have no comments.. What my brother did, was justified and I don't want him to be in a bad daylight. However, I will press charges against him because of..." the announcer said and Albert's voice was also heard.

Heimlich took his gun out, shot the radio and everyone backed up...

"I... He.... He makes me sick..." Heimlich said and he swallowed his drink in one turn.

"Anais, Marc, Charlie... Take care of Heim... I have an appointment..." Vulkie said, a bit shook up and so she left, for the dinner appointment.

***Sami's***

6 pm, Vulkie arrived at Sami's. Davis was already seated and already ordered a large plate of food to "grill"

"So, Miss Nouson, I see you've made it..." Davis said and Vulkie smiled. "Yes, traffic was a bit hellish, but anyway, here I am..." Vulkie said and so, Davis and Vulkie began a conversation about politics and about other stuff.

When Vulkie was full and Davis also, Vulkie said : "I've got to go to the bathroom... Excuse me..." Vulkie said, as she dropped the earring on the table. Vulkie walked away, looking back, to see Davis's astonishment.

Davis immediately made a run for it. "Hold it!" Vulkie yelled and ran after Davis.

A chase immediately began and Davis was a much faster runner then Vulkie. Vulkie couldn't keep up with Davis and lost him eventually.

"Damn..." Vulkie said, all out of "oxygen" and began to breath heavily and returned to Heim's house.

***Heim's House***

7.30 pm, Vulkie arrived back at Heim's house and explained what happened. "YOU LOST HIM?!" Heimlich yelled at Vulkie and she apoligized ten times... "I couldn't keep up with him..."

"Great,he's probably hiding now.." Heimlich said and yelled...
