Do you have what it takes to outlast all others? Do you think you can rise above the rest and stand out as the ultimate contender? Welcome Ladies and Gentlemen to Survivor: Sleuthville!

10 Detectives enter, face off against each other in a different challenge every week, and the last left standing will be crowned Sleuth Noir Survivor! The winner will walk away with a one-year subscription to Sleuth Noir and bragging rights over the entire community. The rules are simple:

1. The first ten Detectives to post an entry will be entered and placed on two teams of five.

2. It's advisable to be subscribed. Some of the challenges may require travel, and if you can't participate, it's likely your team will vote you off at elimination. I won't bar anyone based on this, but it's your call.

3. The losing team at the end of each event will have to vote off one member. To do that each team member will submit a PM to me, which will remain anonymous with the name of the person he or she is voting for, and a short reason why. It can be as simple as-

Name: Heimlich VonVictor
Why: He didn't write any of the poem. It's no wonder we lost!

4. Challenges will be one week long and a winner will be announced at the end, in the event of a tie, a coin will be flipped.

5. Anyone may enter including mods, editors, or even Ben and Sunny themselves if they so choose.

6. The contest will begin when all ten detectives have entered and been placed on teams. It will conclude after nine weeks of elimination challenges.

That's all! Get out there and outwit, outplay, and outlast!

Welcome to your first elimination Lenape tribe! It looks like this one was a bit tough for you and you went down swinging. In any event, it’s time to say goodbye to one of your teammates. The votes have been tallied and the non-immune contestant who received the largest number of votes was… Vulkie3.

Vulkie, the consensus among your fellow tribe members is that they felt your contributions to the challenges have been small in comparison to the other tribe members. Unfortunately it looks like you’re the first Lenape to go. I’ve doubled checked the votes, and regretfully they tell us, but firmly they compel us, to say goodbye to you. This one’s for you Vulkie.

With that, ladies and gentleman, 25% of the contestants have been voted off. Who will go next? What will the next challenge be? Stay tuned to find out in just a few minutes!

CHALLENGE #5 â€" Veterans’ Affairs

So you think you’ve got it all figured out? You know how to bring the newbies in. You know how to get them to subscribe. You know how to solve cases with an expert touch. You’ve even added a little more spice to the mysteries! Well there’s one thing you’ve overlooked, and that’s the fact that there were people here before you. Yeah, that’s right, people here long before you arrived!

These people, well let’s just say they figured everything out a long time ago, and they don’t take too kindly to your kind moving in on their territory! Now what are you gonna do about it? Eh? What’s that? You’re gonna show them? You’re gonna give ‘em something they’ve never seen before? That’s it!

In this challenge, your task will be to impress the veterans of Sleuth Noir. Having climbed the highest peak of the mountain more times than they can count, the greybeards, who have become jaded with the game, eagerly await your input.

You mission, should you choose to accept it, is to create a proposal to keep older players active and interested in the game. This may take the same form as the proposal used in challenge #1 or you may convey your ideas through different mediums such as graphics, songs, videos, or anything your imagination may devise!

Entries are due at 18:00 SST on November 16, 2009. You will be judged by a panel of Sleuth Noir veterans, who will be offering their own unique blend of expertise and critique on what they feel keeps them interested.

Good luck teams! Get out there and outwit, outplay, and outlast!

This week one of the biggest things on my mind has been my grandfather's health. He was taken to the hospital complaining of chest pains. After an x-ray, it was found that he has lung and bone cancer. We were optimistic considering treatment and moved him into a new assisted living facility on Friday.

On Friday we went to visit him in the hospital and he was barely conscious. His doctor informed us that he had developed pneumonia and suffered a heart attack at some point in the last twenty-four hours. His doctor said he was essentially in a coma and may not live through the weekend.

On Sunday, my entire family went to visit him, and he was 100% better. He was awake, talking, laughing, and watching football. He even knew enough that he disliked the Green Bay Packers. I can't thank everyone enough for their prayers and kind thoughts. He's not out of the woods yet, but we are so grateful to see how much better he's doing.

I'm sure as many of you know Veterans' day is this Wednesday in the United States. When I scrapped the original Challenge #5, I had no idea what I would replace it with. My grandfather is a naval veteran of World War II and has always highly regarded the holiday and its importance. My choosing of this competition, during this week, with that name is no mistake. This challenge is named for all those who have served our countries over the years.

In honor of them, I'm going to post a link where anyone who wishes to may make a donation to Disabled American Veterans. If you would like to make a donation then please do. If not here, then to the military NPO of your choosing :)

The Comanche Tribe Proposal

We propose two main methods to keep older players active and to generate general interest.

I â€" Community Driven Interest

We believe that one great way to keep veterans interested in the game is to continually have a more lively community. Welcoming and guiding newbies is one way that sleuth is actually excellent at as a site. There are many players dedicated to answering newbie questions and helping in guiding them through the game.

Also, contests have proven to be one of the most interesting of the happenings on the message boards with the community. We propose to have a moderator, whether an existing one or a new one to be in charge of contests in sleuthville and either take part in the organizing or just the encouragement and supervision of others to take charge.

For example, the Sleuth Noir Survivor has in itself generated a lot of interest in the game and convinced older players to step out of the shadows and become active contributors in the game. Sleuth Noir Survivor is a skills-based contest. Other past highly successful ones have included Sleuth March Madness -a popularity contest basically that generated much interest, community interactions and fun- as well as the Sleuth Beauty Pageant -a beauty contest that generates an equal amount of interests.

We propose that contests like these and others are organised to take place in seasons so that older players, for example, can always have Season 2 of the Sleuth Noir Survivor to look forward to as well as any other possible future games.

I - New Content Driven Interest

The Sleuth Noir game has great potential for keeping older players interested. However, our tribe believes firmly that new content is vital to keeping a strong interest in the game. Older players want more to do, more goals to achieve and new ways to develop their detectives. An annual or bi-annual expansion will go a long way to keep current veterans interested as the newer players remain and turn into veterans themselves thus increasing the number of old timers around who know one another very well.

We propose the following expansion to the game to kick us off:

Sleuth Noir: Secret Societies Expansion

http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/4163/secretsociety.jpg

Basically the secret societies would be an expansion of the current agencies set up. Secret societies would be a very interesting and more special type of agency that you can only join once you have achieved veteran status through exp points.

Being an agent member of a secret society agency would give you a license to obtain more skills and draw more power in the sleuth world.

The basic rules -open to future adjustments as per requirements- are:

- A Secret Society Agency can be formed by a detective for a fee of $1,000,000/- initial deposit and a $10,000/- daily rent only if that director has achieved 20 million + experience points.
- Any detective can join a Secret Society Agency formed by that director provided that the detective has amassed 10 million + experience points.
- There would have to be separate rankings for Secret Societies in the High Scores section in City Hall.
- Secret Societies would work exactly like agencies except have the following added benefits to their members:
- All members would be able to obtain both the skills of the Shangri La Tigers & the Tea Steepers.
- All members would have to choose one of the six game factions to affiliate themselves permanently with and thus have access to permanently discounted items and faction skill.

Nov-16-2009 18:12

- All members would have the ability to unclam one clammed suspect per day.
- There would be larger storage spaces for items and case files in the agency HQ and all branches around the world would offer the same exact services offered by the Secret Society HQ.
- All members would be allowed free entrance to the USS Sleuthetania at all times.
- Free access to the Prince’s Palace at Shangri La without having to solve the Gates’ puzzle every single time.
- All secret society members would be afforded set discounts on apartments and furniture.
- Finally, all secret society members would be veterans who put much effort in the game and who would have something special to show for it.
- The Secret Societies Expansion could kick-off the annual or bi-annual gaming expansions in the sleuth.

The expansions would warrant the involvement of Ben, but we truly believe that to keep veterans interested you need some tangible developments in the game.

III - Final Note

We believe that the efforts to make veterans more active and interested must come from the community, but also the game’s main moderator. Having a games driven community would be very fun for older players, but new content is nevertheless needed.

Thank you for reading and please do not hesitate to contact any of us should require any further details on any of the above…

Very sincerely yours,

Aknas

The Lenape Tribe Proposal

Main Proposal:

We, the Lenape tribe, have created this proposal on how to keep older players active and interested in the game - Sleuth Noir. It is also our hope to entice those who have left to return. We believe it is important to listen to the veteran players' opinions on what is important to them, and have asked some of them for their advice. After various discussions and creative brain storming sessions, this is a summary of the ideas we have assembled.

1. Emailing the vets with a semiannual / annual newsletter about the updates to entice them back. We can write the email; all Ben needs to do is to send it to the players who have submitted their email addresses. Of course, if he is too busy or has reservations in doing it, we still have amongst ourselves various email addresses/Facebook accounts of the vets whom we can reach as a group. Here is the suggested opening for the short and sweet newsletter:

"Hey gumshoe, ever wonder what you've missed? Remember the good old days when (insert oldtimer names) were still here and you all messed around in barchat and had fun on the boards? Why not pop in when you have a spare sec and see what new advances have been made to the game, what nice new people have joined, and reconnect yourself with the community you once loved? (list new features as stated in the next idea here below) Be sure to drop by soon; the bar and the streets of Sleuthville miss your presence.

2. To create an ongoing thread with updates on what's been changed/advanced. This is to help returnees keep track of the new features that have come out since they last played. Listed here are some of the new features/updates:
- the avatar self-uploading feature
- Sleuth mail checkboxes
- the auto contact questioning feature
- the Battery Boardwalk currently 'under-construction' in New York
- new suspect names and new AI case equipment
- apartments now available in Cairo
- ctown's discovery of secret #1, etc.

3. Sleuth Talk Radio: A new featured segment called the Vets Sound Off will be introduced, where vets will be interviewed for their advice and experience, perhaps stumping them with tough questions.

4. RP Stage: Threads similar to Leg-end that vets will find interesting.

5. Competitions and other creative challenges. The key is to have various challenges, from the serious crime solving ones to simple fun races, for players with various interests, such as--
The beard tourney: a VH tournament where the vets teaches the 'newbies' how to villain hunt, by kicking their asses. ("hey crusty people, we young bucks are gonna kick your asses in VHing! Try and catch us!")
Challenging treasure hunts: Making treasure hunts competitive again would be enticing for the old timers; it was a hugely fun time in Noir's history. TH tournaments where agencies need to collect a particular set of treasures (ie. 2 cups, 1 necklace + a book) would help make both old and new timers scurrying around Sleuthville.
The beauty pageant: (currently being hosted by Molly Maltese) with the new self-help avatar this will become very interesting (must keep within sleuth regulations on avatar selection)
The mole game: Set up a scene where all dets gather together and people start dying (and one of the participants is actually the killer) Can be played via the RP stage. We later found out that there was a mole game once on Sleuth Noir and it was very popular at the time, a bit like Heimlich's contest now.
Clue/cluedo contest: Another once popular game that can be revived.

6. Sleuth Con - organized by players
We find that some old timers stick to Sleuth after participating in prior Sleuth Cons, since it really helps us when we get to meet fellow players in RL. Since they're held in the USA, people in other parts of the world may not be able to join in. This can be amended by holding international online chats during Sleuth Con. The next Sleuth Con is scheduled to be held in central Ohio, with the possibility of having concurrent ones in Europe and in Asia. The rest of the people who cannot make it can webcam. They will only be announced when places are booked, so it is more likely that it will happen and that people will show up.

Game suggestions:

As a side note, we have included some suggestions to improving the Game Programming, things which the vets will find enticing. We acknowledge that these ideas are the combination of both our brains and those of the rest of the sleuth community. Of course, we understand that these are subject to Ben's approval and timing, but we would like to point them out, as we know this would help some grey beards returning to the game:

A. Re-occuring Arch villains - previous villains whom the player has caught have broken out of jail and you must catch him/her again. The game play can be a bit different from the regular AVH as well)
B. Story based treasure/villain hunts - similar to a scripted mystery where you'd go to different suspects/townies to advance the story, except you'd need more people to participate in it and you’d need to travel to various locations and complete different tasks in order to find your target.
C. Larger apartments with more features, such as a secret passage to go to another city with less turns.
D. Cars - it can take up a gear spot, and help reduce the number of cases between favor cases by 1, or whatever practical use that would make more sense.
E. Secret #3 (if it's not out already, which I am sure it is. Secret #4 then...)
