Do you have what it takes to outlast all others? Do you think you can rise above the rest and stand out as the ultimate contender? Welcome Ladies and Gentlemen to Survivor: Sleuthville!

10 Detectives enter, face off against each other in a different challenge every week, and the last left standing will be crowned Sleuth Noir Survivor! The winner will walk away with a one-year subscription to Sleuth Noir and bragging rights over the entire community. The rules are simple:

1. The first ten Detectives to post an entry will be entered and placed on two teams of five.

2. It's advisable to be subscribed. Some of the challenges may require travel, and if you can't participate, it's likely your team will vote you off at elimination. I won't bar anyone based on this, but it's your call.

3. The losing team at the end of each event will have to vote off one member. To do that each team member will submit a PM to me, which will remain anonymous with the name of the person he or she is voting for, and a short reason why. It can be as simple as-

Name: Heimlich VonVictor
Why: He didn't write any of the poem. It's no wonder we lost!

4. Challenges will be one week long and a winner will be announced at the end, in the event of a tie, a coin will be flipped.

5. Anyone may enter including mods, editors, or even Ben and Sunny themselves if they so choose.

6. The contest will begin when all ten detectives have entered and been placed on teams. It will conclude after nine weeks of elimination challenges.

That's all! Get out there and outwit, outplay, and outlast!

CHALLENGE #4- A Storybook Story

So you’ve made a name for yourself? Phone ringing off the hook? Everyone wants you to solve the murder of their opium dealer? Great! Why should I care? What is grasping my attention about the cases that I’m solving every day?

If you’re like some detectives, you open an AI case, quick scroll to the bottom and click continue, click on crime scene, find all of the suspects, analyze the PE you have the contact for, and then throw it in the agency case files with a note like “need tailor, SM, banker”.

If you’re like others, you read every intro that comes up and they add an element of fun and intrigue to the case. Some detectives I know even save the intros of their favorite intro authors in a word file to read over later on. Your mission is to add some flavor to the cases we play every day.

How do we do that? Why it’s simple! You’re going to write mystery intros for the next week! Yes, indeed it’s another writing challenge! The rules are simple. The tribe that submits the most good quality intros in the next week will be declared the winner. At the end of the week, tribes will e-mail me a document at sleuthnoirsurvivor@gmail.com that contains all of the mystery intros written, complete with author’s name and mystery intro number. Intros are due by 19:00 Sleuth Time on November 6, 2009.

I just submitted an intro shortly before posting this. Therefore, I will let everyone know right now that their intro numbers should sequentially be higher than what I just submitted :) Likewise, once time is up I will submit another intro in order to benchmark the acceptable range of numbers. An editor has been so kind as to offer to verify all introductions as well :)

What constitutes a good quality intro? Well let’s think about it like this, if an editor reads your introduction and then wants to scream out in pain & headbutt a cactus in frustration, it’s probably not good quality. Spelling and grammar do count. For submitted bad quality intros, your tribe will receive no points and you will receive a strike against you. Receive three strikes against you, and you’ll be the recipient of the coveted Golden Diaper award, which subtracts one point from your tribe. If you’re afraid of becoming the all-time winningest Golden Diaper recipient, I would advise having someone on your tribe do some proofreading before you submit your intros.

Reward: The person who writes the most good quality intros will receive the coveted Golden Quill Immunity Award! How does it work? We’ll save that for once the winner is announced. All I’ll say is this is something that every player should be vying for.

Lenapes, you must bench three tribe members for this challenge. Please decide which tribe members will not be participating.

Good luck tribes! Get out there and outwit, outplay, and outlast!

Dear Heimlich Von Victor,
The announcement of the results of challenge 3 made me very skeptical for several reasons
1. Our ethical code of making maximum 150 cases per week was violated and I really doubt if the participation to any contest is justifying such a severe violation.
2. Participants having access to multiple accounts seems to have triumphed in your contest. I see detectives with 682 or 640 cases ! (indicating access to the passwords of minimum 8 detectives!!!). Is this fair towards the detectives that respect the 2 detectives control rule and play accordingly to the code of honor...I seriously doubt?
3. It is obvious by the character of the contest that the detective that will be eliminated is the one that has respected our code of honor and did not violated any ethical rule!!!...and that is really very discouraging

There are many more reasons (like discouraging newbies etc etc)…but I think that those mentioned are enough. I am sure that simply you did not thought of them while you were announcing challenge 3 as part of your contest and that now you will reconsider about the whole issue.
I would recommend that you should eliminate (cancel) all challenge 3 part of your contest and substitute it with another one (up till now part 1,2 and the newly announced 4 are good!) and be a bit more skeptical in the future (concerning possible side effects or unwanted ethical implications)

I'm going to bring up the issue of numbers once again since this challenge, seemingly about writing, is really about numbers.

The Lenape's have six members who can actively contribute to the writing of intros, and out of the six four are role players, all of whom are excellent writers.

If it's quality of writing we're after I should hope we limit the number of intros submitted to three -one for every participating member in the challenge.

If the point is to turn over as many mediocre intros which players will scroll over to press continue at the end of the day, then the numbers part is very fitting.

Heim, I really appreciate the creativity and innovation you put in to come up with these really challenging and well-though through contests, leaving us dazzled every week. I am just saying that the open numbers scramble -from my experience in the last contest- takes away from both the interest and edge of the actual contest.

It ends up being who can dedicate the largest chunk of their time to the game & site.

Which I hope is not reflective of what this game is about.

I must agree with Miss Parr about a limit on the intro's (also, thanks for the compliment Miss Parr. And if I may say so,you are also an excellent RP-writer!). It would be easy to "submit" like 50 intro's... 3 sounds fair,1 intro for 1 detective...

Firstly may I say A huge well done to the Comanche tribe, I think you did incredibly well in the last challenge especially when you ended up having a disadvantage. There were times when I was thinking the Lenapes would lose this challenge when I saw you all rising up the high scores list so quickly. If TK had been around I do believe you would have won that challenge.

Ms. Parr even though I am part of the Lenape team, I do agree with you that because we have more people in our team you could theoretically stand at a disadvantage. So I've been sat thinking what could be done to make it fairer. At the risk of becoming very unpopular with my fellow Lenapes may I suggest that for every intro that Comanche does, Lenapes must do two? Would this make things slightly fairer?

On another note if the intros are being submitted as proper intros then there should be no mediocore intros at all. I'm assuming that Kaz (she is normally the one who edits the intros) would be editing intros? If this is the case then I don't think she will mind me saying that she never accepts a mediocre intro :)

In response to VS. I assume that I am being included in the people who had done over 600 cases, so I am going to respond. I don't have access to multiple accounts, I have access to two. The title of the challenge was to beg, borrow and steal. So what did I do? I asked my directors if I may use some cases whilst they were taking a break. I asked my friends if they had cases they didn't need and I was fortunate that they allowed me to use all their cases. You can ask most people around here and they will tell you that before this challenge I hadn't played a case in about 3-4 months. Did I find the last challenge hard? Yes I found it tiring and physically draining. You will note that those of us who did have over 600 cases completed have already lost about 300 of them cases. I haven't played a single case since the end of the challenge just because it was so hard for me to do. And yes I am one of the people who threatened to castrate Heim because of the challenge he set. I found it demanding and to me that's one of the reasons for a contest like this.

On a final note to suggest the cancellation of round 3 would be incredibly unfair to BOTH teams. Every person involved in this challenge worked to their limit. You think it's fair to take that away from them?

I would like to say thanks to all the detectives who helped my team in the last challenge. And thank you too to Team Lenape. You guys were very competitive. ;) We tried our best, but in every game, there's always a winner and a loser. Tough luck, eh?

Now for this next challenge, I am confuse. How do we win in this challenge? By making as many intros as possible? Or by writing a great intro? Or is it both? Any specific criteria?

Oops knew I would forget to mention something :)

I realise that some people may think I have an unfair advantage being an editor myself. Therefore for this week I will be using Adam Carter's detective and won't log onto myself as from today. I will submit my intros via Adam's detective too just so there is no confusion. If anyone has any doubts they will be able to see that I haven't been logged on as myself :)

First off to VS- As with Ms Helen, Riza had her own detective, and then one of the accounts is her second. I gave her my cases, along with my second's. Other detectives cases who are other people's seconds were also used. In no way did Riza have more then the 24 cases plus the accompanying favors of her very own. I and the other members of Vidocq store cases for Riza. I found the last challenge incredibly hard and I was benched! I agree with Ms Helen that that would be unfair to everyone who worked so hard in this past week.

Moving on- Comanches, I stand in awe of you all as well! Well, I stand in awe of everyone, but that was a good battle- we were scared over in Lenape!

A Storybook Story:
The way I understand the contest is that it is neither the most intros one can crank out, nor the absolute most fantastic intros one has ever written. No, What this is is to write as many GOOD, INTERESTING, and CAPTIVATING intros as you are able to in a week. If you submit lots of poor quality intros, you are penalized (Golden Diaper award). So, it is not just a numbers game. :) It is a quality control numerical game that makes me want to pull my hair out! ;)
