That was a sentence Valentina D'Angeli had heard many many times from her mother. She had never believed it much, not until she suffered the deepest wound in her life. The death of Fiorella, her beloved sister, had almost killed her.

Afterwards, she had gotten ill while chasing Domino, the responsible for the murder.

On the good side, she had met Zeo again, and gotten to know Vulkie, a new friend. Those two people helped filling up the void Fiore had left in her life.

It wasn't like she stayed with them all the time. They all had things to do and places to go. Cases to solve, agencies to help, villains to chase... It was almost a miracle when she could stay with any of them for a while. A complete miracle as she had time to be with both.

At the current moment, she had found some time to be with Vulkie. She always had fun at those moments, especially when they had the time to go out and eat dinner or lunch. Like right now.

Tina was quiet, which was pretty unusual. But of course, she was with her mouth full, and good girls don't speak with their mouths full. After she finally ate the last portion of her dish, she smiled to her friend.

"Sorry, dear, had no time to eat lunch. Or breakfast."

She took a deep breath and gestured for the waiter to bring some coffee.

"Now, tell me everything. What have you been up to?"

Valentina followed Vulkie into Big Lucy's Cabaret. The place was familiar to her, though she wasn't there quite often. And despite the fact that she had been there a couple times, she had never been into Lucy's office.

She had to use every ounce of self control not to laugh at the decoration, despite her tension. After a couple seconds, she managed to put on her best straight face and look at the woman.

She thought of letting Vulkie do the questioning, but she could be too soft at the moments, so the Italian girl took the matter in her hands and went straight to the point.

When big Lucy gave her the man's name, she muttered it to herself so she wouldn't forget and nodded to Vulkie. Now they had a new lead.

After threatening the guard, Tina followed Vulkie outside, dismissing her protests. Yeah, she could be kinda soft.

At Bangwood's place, she took the same decision and decided to to the talking.

"Hello, Mr. Bangwood.", she said, almost nicely. "We're here to talk about an acquaintace of yours. Mr. Henry Smithers?"

She registered the slight trembling of his lips before he spoke, being almost an expert at detecting lies.

"Yeah. I've heard someone took him out. Poor fella. Wasn't a bad guy."

Tina's eyes narrowed and her voice turned dangerously soft.

"I'm sure he wasn't. That is why we're trying to figure out who would have a reason to kill him. Perhaps you could help us..."

The man scratched the back of his neck, before speaking again.

"You've come to the wrong place, sleuth. I hadn't met Smithers in a long time."

"No kidding...", Tina muttered to herself, and looked at Vulkie. "Do we have any info on that?"
[I truly hope this is better than the other ones.]

(you've done a great job Valentina. I'm very proud of you. You'll become a fine RP-er. I just know it ^^).

"At the moment,we don't have any information on that case. However,we can go around the neighbourhood to check around and then come back. You will see us again, very soon..." Vulkie said, with a threatening look.

"I'm already looking forward to it..." Mr. Bangwood said, with a bit of a shiver in his voice. He was scared of something, that was for sure...

As Valentina and Vulkie stepped in the car,Vulkie said : "That guy is lying. He's seen Smithers, that's for sure.". Valentina nodded absent and stepped in the car.

As Vulkie and Valentina were driving towards the neighbourhood where Smithers "used" to live,Vulkie started a conversation.

"So,how's between you and Joseph. Still lovebirds?" Vulkie asked, with a charming face towards Valentina for a few seconds.

"We're just friends.Watch the road.." Valentina replied, being nervous. Something was troubling Valentina and it had to do with Joseph.

"Valentina,do you blame Joseph for... Well, you know, that one thing?" Vulkie asked.

"What thing?" Valentina replied.

"That he left you with Dominic. I'm also responsible for that, you know that. We thought you could take care of that fat pig,but..." Vulkie answered.

Valentina looked at Vulkie, with almost tears in her eyes. Vulkie knew enough. "Don't answer. I already know the answer" Vulkie said.

And so,the two detectives arrived at the neighbourhood, with Vulkie parking the car. And so,Valentina began to rang the first doorbell in sight...

As they got to Smithers' neighborhood, Valentina shook all the personal matters away from her mind, and focused solely on the task she and Vulkie had ahead of themselves.

"Take the other side, please", she asked the other girl, "we'll meet right there", she completed, showing the corner where the street changed its name.

As Vulkie nodded and went across the street, Tina pulled out her notepad and started interviewing the neighbors about anything they could answer - how long they had known Smithers for, what they thought of him, when was the last time they had seen the man, if he used to get lots of visits, every single detail she could think of.

As she had anticipated, she got most of her information from old ladies, mostly widows. Her sleuthing experience told her that they were, of all people, those who paid more attention to other people's lives.

After ringing about fifteen doorbells, Valentina stopped at the corner and looked at her notes. She didn't want to draw any conclusions before she could compare them with Vulkie's information.

As Vulkie got to the corner, the brunette shook her head.

"Not here.", she said, moving for the car.

As she reached it, Valentina drove silently to the place where she was staying. She only adressed the case when both ladies were sitting with her drinks.

"All right. What have you got from the neighbors?", she asked, all bussiness now.

"Well,Smithers was a very "housed" man. Never came out of his house, just for groceries or birthdays. He worked at house. He was an employee of a bank, but was fired. And.... You're just gonna love this. I got this from the lady across his house. It seemed that Bangwood "visited" him on the day before his dead. He entered in a nice suit" Vulkie said.

"So?" Valentina said.

"The old lady added, that when he left the house,he didn't wear a tie that he wore when he went in..." Vulkie said.

Valentina looked shocked. "So,you mean... Bangwood likes men?" Valentina asked.

Vulkie nodded. "Yeah,it sounds gross. But some people are "born" that way.." Vulkie said.

"Well, let's confront him with this "fact". We can easily make him co-operate him." Valentina said and Vulkie nodded.

So,the two detectives left for Bangwood's place. When Valentina and Vulkie arrived, they first noticed that the door was burst in.

"Cock your gun" Vulkie said and Valentina cocked her ruby revolver. Vulkie took out her .38 Colt revolver and slowly cocked it. Then, the two detectives went in.

The whole place was trashed up. And in the "office" room, sat Clint Bangwood. All shot up.... with a note on his back pinned. "Hope you "enjoy" your present. An admirer"

"Let's search the house" Valentina said and so,the two detectives began to search.

In the living room, there was nothing special. So was for the kitchen, the bathroom, the bedroom and the basement. So,the only thing left was the office room.

Valentina looked at the bookcase and Vulkie began to search the office desk. Suddenly,Vulkie noticed something taped under the desk. Vulkie ripped it from under the desk and opened it.

"Your next clue detectives. What ticks and hangs on a wall?" the letter said.

"Sure,a clock" Vulkie thought and she ran to the living room and searched behind the clock. A ring was taped behind it.

"Truly yours. Eva.." the ring read. "Look at this" Vulkie said and Valentina looked at the ring.

"Who's Eva?" Valentina asked. "Don't know. Oh look,a small note is also taped."

"Everest" it read.

"Eva Everest?! The famous actress that's going to feature in that new movie, what's the name?" Valentina said.

"I don't know... But we'll find her. Not now,but soon..." Vulkie said, with a small grin on her face. A new lead... The two detectives returned to the office, only to hear some kind of ticking. "What's that ticking sound?" Valentina asked.

Vulkie's instinct began to work. "BOMB! THE BOMB IS IN BANGWOOD!" Vulkie yelled and dragged Valentina out of the office and the house.

Just in time, because when the two detectives left the house, the bomb was going to blow.

The blast let the two detectives fell on the lawn. "Well,Bangwood "went" with a bang!" Vulkie said and Valentina began to laugh at her joke. "You sure have humor, that's for sure. Now let's go see Eva Everest" Valentina said.

"Nah,I need some rest" Vulkie said and she drove Valentina home and then she went to her home,to only wake up the next day by a telephone call...

As Vulkie dropped her at home, Tina went in for a long bath and then, bed. She didn't sleep quite immediately, as she was thinking about all the clues they had gathered, and Eva's relation to all that.

How was she involved? Was she a victim? A part of the plan? The brain behind all of that? They would only find out after talking to her. It all had to be gradual, and done together. No solo flights on this case, Tina, she reminded herself.

After waking up, having a good breakfast and a look on her case files, Tina finally made the call to Vulkie's house.

"Heya. Wake up, girl.", she said, cheerfully. She always felt good after a good night's sleep. "Good news. Eva is going to sign her pictures today, in the Chinese Theater. What you say you get dressed and wait for me there, so we can pretend to be 'big fans'?

She laughed as her friend mumbled something on her end.

"I'll take that as a yes, and I'll be there in 20 mins. Be ready", she said, and hung up. She hoped they could get to speak to Eva as the place was as empty as it could get.

[I know, I can't do large posts, otherwise I make a mess...]

Valentina was right on time, just in front of Vulkie's house. As Vulkie looked out of the window,Valentina was standing outside,at her car door.

Vulkie got dressed up,took her .38 Colt from her father, checked the bullet chamber and cocked the gun, just in case.

As Vulkie stepped outside,a car screeched around and she saw a tommygun sticking outside the window. "Tina, get down!" Vulkie yelled and Valentina dropped herself to the ground. Vulkie carefully aimed...

One shot...
Second shot....
Third shot...

The third shot hit the driver in his arm and the car crashed in a nearby lanternpole.

Vulkie scurried towards the car, cocking her gun. Valentina followed Vulkie, making sure everything was fine.

As Vulkie was standing at the driver's seat, she was filled with rage. Vulkie shot the driver dead, until all the bullets were up. But she still kept firing the gun,not knowing it was empty.

"Vulkie, your gun is empty. It's over... You can stop now..." Valentina said.

Vulkie woke up from her trance. "Sorry Valentina. Still a leftover from my accident..." Vulkie replied (Read Josée for reference). "I thought he was still alive..."

Valentina looked worried. "That one thing you told me about, about you getting shot and getting 'visions'. You're stuck to it for your whole life, right?" Valentina asked.

Vulkie nodded.

"Unfortunately,yes..." Vulkie replied.

"Let's get to Eva. She's our only lead" Valentina said,as she stepped back in her car.

And so,Valentina drove to the Chinese Theater,as Vulkie thought of her dearly beloved Ace,who got shot down... (See Josée for reference)
