If someone files a case with a faction change and someone else solve it, does the person who started the case get the faction hit or the one who finishes it? If the latter this would explain why some people have faction standings at around 150. I have not been able to get even to 50 alone. Is this fair gameplay or does anyone else see how it's unfair that only the detective agencies with the most members can ever get the player faction leader titles? That would equal eight, for the record.

There's another way of improving your faction standing considerably, and it can be done in Cairo, but I don't know if describing it would be considered a spoiler, so I won't say anything more :).

As Rosamund said there are ways (absolutely legal but they are considered spoilers) in the game to climb up high in a fraction. I did it up to 301 just to see if it is possible …and believe me it is (it is possible even up to 500 or even 1000 points if you wish to do it for fun).
For the time being you do not have the skills that are required in the game to climb up high and quickly. I can assure you that climbing (without using any boosters at all!) 19 points (34 points if you are a bit lucky) per day is absolutely feasible and can be done. You simply need to focus on that and you can easily do it.
For now I would recommend you not to try it (when and if you acquire the skills needed) at least before you get all the benefits and skills that all fractions can provide
