It was another rainy foggy night in London, as I walked through the door of the Owl and Walnut. I stood in the doorway to get the chill out of my bones and eyed the patrons of my favorite pub. I could tell that the news of the latest murder victim had everyone scared. The local papers were calling him the new Ripper, Scottland Yard was lost as usual and the only trend that the killer stuck to was the murders were getting more and more gruesome. I had already started looking into the case even before Miss Brandy Marie showed up at my office last night and told me she wanted me to find the psycho who murdered her sister. Its been the longest 24 hours I have ever lived through. And I am no closer to solving the case. I head over to the bar and order my usual 3 fingers of cognac I then head over to my table which is very close to the back. I sit with my back to the wall and watch the door. You learn a few things in this business when you been doing it as long as me and I aint about to get a bullet in the back cause I got careless. I pull out my pack of Lucky Strikes( I have'em sent over from the States.) And my Zippo lighter. I light up take a huge drag and a sip of my drink and try to forget the horrible images I saw today. Zeo arrived at Smithe's office and home twenty minutes after he left the hotel, making sure that both constables followed him. He just hoped that no police was hiding by the backdoor of the hotel. The sun haven't yet rise but Zeo couldn't care less. He rung the bell violently and hoped that Smithe wasn't home. That would put him right into the suspect's list along with the fact that he knew all the victims.

Moments later, to Zeo' disappointment, he heard the door being unbolted. The door opened to reveal a dishevelled Doctor Smithe. "What's the meaning of this? Detective! It's 5 o'clock in the morning...."

Zeo pushed Simthe aside and dashed upstairs. He was sure he'd find some evidence in his room. Blood, knife, body parts, anything to proof that Cain was innocent. Smithe was running behind him, protesting loudly. Zeo pushed the bedroom door open and ---

"AAAAAAh!" A woman shrieked as she hurriedly covered herself.

Zeo flushed and turned around immediately "I'm sorry 'mam.." He said, glad that it was still dark and he didn't see much; well, what he saw was enough... Smithe was upon them right away.

"Donna just get dressed." Smithe called sweetly into the bedroom, then he turned salvage at Zeo, "Detective, you are going down for this, I'm calling the police...."

"Donna?" Zeo recalled, "Is that Donna Fitzgerald?"

"Yes and so what?" The woman slashed back while Zeo could hear the sound of her dressing herself. Zeo could remember seeing that name in the patients file because it reminded him of his favourite singer. Zeo smiled.

"Doctor Smithe, I believe you are bedding you patients." Zeo stated. Smithe's face immediately flushed white. "I can just see your reputation going down the drain for this..."

"Hello, is everything alright up there, doctor?" The two constables called up from the main entrance.

"Yes, everything is fine." Smithe replied nervously, "Just a friend visiting."

"So I'm now a friend?" Zeo smiled. Smithe ignored Zeo's remarked and went down to rid of the two officers. He then turn to Zeo as if he was walking on tight rope.

"My method is working and those ladies no longer have nightmares after my 'therapy'. So you better stay out of this or I'll will make your life a living hell." The doctor warned vainly. Zeo only smile and shrugged.

"Since I am now a 'friend', I expect more co-operation from you now, doctor." Zeo said, "Where were you last night?"

"I thought that was obvious." Smithe replied, looking upstairs. "You can ask Donna if you want. We started off in her house but she needed 'a change of scenery', so I took her home."

"And you seem to know all the victims in the new Ripper murders."

"That was exactly why I didn't want to talk to you in the first place." The doctor walked up to Zeo, raking his hair with his fingers. "I don't know why that is happening, and I know I'd be dead if people found out. Honestly, I have nothing to do with those horrible killings!"

The doctor seemed sincere enough, but Zeo was never good at reading people, he only believed in the evidence. That too, was telling him that Smithe may not be the new Ripper he was looking for. "So, you mentioned about these 'visits'. What are those?"

Smithe sighed. "It's a secret society that i recommended my patients to attend to help balance their psyche. I'm part of that group too, and I'm sworn to its secrecy. Sorry, that is more than what I can tell you already. Miss Marie's driver know of its location. Please, leave me alone now." The doctor opened the door to indicate our meeting was over. I had found out more then what I bargained for, so I bid the doctor farewell and left.

The two constable was trailing me again soon after, probably believing that I didn't see them. Since Vulkie was onto the driver, the best that i could do was to take the attention off her and Cain. The sun was raising. I decided to go around town to do some shopping.

"Yeah yeah, coming, coming" the man said, unbolting his front door.

As the door opened,I saw a lighted hallway and a man standing in it. "How can I help you miss?" the driver said.

"Are you by any chance William Guillory" Vulkie asked carefully.

"Yes,how may I help you?" the driver replied.

"Well,it concerns a certain matter. I'm here to escort you towards a friend of mine. He needs to speak with you, immediately." Vulkie asked, knowing she didn't tell the full truth.

"Alright,I'll get dressed. You can wait a few seconds if you want in the living room" the driver replied.

And so,Vulkie waited.

After 5 minutes, she suddenly heard a gunshot. "NO!" Vulkie screamed and ran upstairs. There, she found a terrified William Guillory, pointing at the window.

"He.. He... He tried to shoot me..." William stuttered.

"Who William,who?" Vulkie asked impatiently.

"A leader of a secret society. I can't give his name. It would ruin my life..." William said.

And so,Vulkie negotiated with Guillory to have him escorted towards the hotel, where Joseph Zeo and Vulkie were staying.

As they arrived at the hotel,Vulkie immediately knocked on Zeo's door, waiting for a reply or hear Zeo open the door...

The door opened Vulkie let out a sigh and angrily asked " Charlie what are you doing here you know you cant get caught, they'll kill you."

"Look I'm in this up to my neck, and I'm not gonna hide while my friends are out risking their lives. One to bring this nut to justice and two to clear my name. I am greatful for your worries. Lets get to work." Charlie said.

Vulkie followed William in to the room. They all sat down Charlie lit up a cigarette and took a long long drag. As they waited Charlie could tell Vulkie wasnt happy to see him put himself in danger like this.

" Vulkie I tried to go and hide I made it out of town. I was home free but I cant run its not in my nature. I made a promise to find the monster behind these killings and I intend to see it through." said Charlie.

" I understand Charlie, while I was at Williams house someone took a shot at him. Thats why I brought him here. I didnt expect to see you here though. How did you get in?" she asked.

" I stole a key from the front desk while no one was looking." Charlie replied with a smile and a laugh.

"Oh" Vulkie said and laughed along with him.

"Uhmmmmm. Can we pl-please get back on track here someone tried to kill me. For all we know they might be right outside the door. You all have stirred up a horrible hornets nest. These guys wont stop. They have infiltrated all sorts of high power positions. I'm a dead man I just know it. You cant save me or yourselves, oh I gotta get outta here." the more William spoke the more frantic he became.

" William who tried to kill you tonight?" Vulkie asked.

Just as he was about to answer the door knob turned....................

Two men in dark masks carrying semi automatic rifles picked open the door, walked into the room and shot William Guillory right in the chest. Blood exploded from the close ranged shot and the driver fell down from his chair, warm blood gushing out from the wound.

Vulkie shrieked, but at the same time took out her hand guns and began shooting at the two masked men. One man took a shot at Vulkie. She dodged behind the couch. Wood shreds rained down from the wall. Just then Zeo returned to the hotel and heard the gun shots in the hallway. He took out his revolvers and quickly crept toward his room. He saw the masked men and aimed.

Zeo got one guy in the arm. The other man took a shot at Zeo. The thin detective rolled down onto the floor and the bullet hit the hallway behind him. A loud echo roared down the hall way. Vulkie took the opportunity and shot the wounded man in the chest. He went down immediately.

The two constables who trailed Zeo back to the hotel heard the commotion on the second floor and ran up to see what was going on. Before the two could even enter the room, the remaining masked man shot the officers down instantly. Knowing that he was out numbered, the man pushed open the window jumped out. Zeo and Vulkie ran to the window and saw the masked man rolling down from a canopy onto the street. Vulkie tried to shoot him but it was too far away. The man rounded a corner and disappeared.

"Who's that?" Zeo asked, seeing Charlie holding a dead man in his arms.

"That was William Guillory, the driver. He knew about this secret society." Vulkie sighed, "Now I guess he just took the secret down with him to his grave..."

"Not really." Charlie replied. "What do you think I was doing while you two had all the action?"

"You got the location of the secret meeting place off William?" Vulkie asked hopefully.

"34 Dock Street. Basement." Charlie stated. "That's all he managed to say before his last breath. I'm sure it's not that easy to get in though."

"Guys, we have to think of getting OUT of here first." Zeo said while he removed the mask from the dead man. "Does anyone here recognize this guy?" Both Cain and Vulkie looked at the corpse but shook their heads. They then realized all three of them were from New York and may not know all the local high rollers in this city.

"Two officers had just been shot dead in your room, along with a driver and an unknown, possibly important man." Cain concluded, frowning.

Zeo lit a cigarette and inhaled. "I have to stay with this mess until the Yard arrives. I know a few people there, and can explain myself away. For all they know, Vulkie and Cain was never here."

Vulkie agreed. "Yes, we better go before anyone else sees you, Charlie. Let's meet at Dock Street. We can go and scout the place first. Joseph you sure you need to stay?" Zeo nodded and forced the two away from the hotel, reminding them to take the back door. He then called the police and sat down to finish his pack of Chesterfields.

Charlie and Vulkie criss crossed through Londons alley's in order to remain unnoticed by the horde of police man patrolling the area.

" You know what I dont understand is what did these girls see or learn to get themselves butchered. I know that Jack the Ripper cut out organs and even claimed to have eaten some of them. And alot of conspiricies claim he belonged to a secret society. And he followed a set of ancient rituals." Charlie said

"What are you getting at Charlie?" Vulkie asked not quite following his line of thinking.

"Well I think maybe one of us should go check the library to see if maybe we can get some clarity. Maybe check out some information on rituals. If you go I'll go stake out the building." Charlie answered.

" I'll go but you had better stay outta trouble Mr. Cain or you'll have to deal with me." Vulkie said with a smile

" Whoa alright, alright I wont do nothing till the cavalry shows up." said Charlie.

After they parted ways Charlie took of at a run to get to Dock Street. Once he finally reached his destination Charlie found a good spot to hide and watch the club without being noticed. From his vantage point he could see almost all the comings and goings there. The front of the building was unused it looked like another abandoned building. But the amount of people coming and going told another story.

Mean while back at Zeo's hotel room. The police were asking Zeo questions about what happened. Zeo's friend Leopuld was the investigating officer so Zeo knew he wasnt in any real trouble. Besides the type of weapons used didnt match any Zeo had on his person.

"Joseph your sure Cain wasnt here, and you havent seen him since he broke out of jail?" Leopuld asked.
"Yes Leo, I'm sure of it. And would you please stop all this already. I dont know where he is and if I did I wouldnt tell you. He didnt do it. Can you tell me the attacker's name please for my investigation?" Zeo asked

" The attackers name my old friend is Mohamed Wasser Kahleed." Leopuld said.

" Do you know anything about a secret society in this area?" Zeo asked
" And not the Masons, something darker."

" I'm not sure I have heard of any I can ask some of the lads down at the Yard." Leopuld replied. "Thanks." Zeo said.

Mean while at the Library Vulkie had to flirt alot with the guard to get in after hours but she didnt mind. She headed straight to the card catalog box and began searching .

" Yes!" she said loudly. "Hmm I've always wanted to do that." she thought

She found the book and sat down.

The Sacred Sacrament
by T. S. Smithe

She skimmed through the book only stopping when she saw something that caught her eye.

Charlie asked if I wanted to head towards the library,to get more information. I reluctantly agreed and went off.

Knowing that there must be a guard there,I powdered my nose first and made my dress straight,to look like a "wealthy, goodlooking" lady.

And so,I went in. At first, the guard was reluctant to let me in,but with some flirting and a "possible" date,he let me in.

As I looked in the card catalog box,I found what I needed to find.

And so,I got a book, titled The Sacred Sacrement. It was written by a certain T. S. Smithe.

I wondered... Could he be a relative to Hubert Smithe, the psychiatrist? I made a mental note to let Zeo ask the good doctor that.

As I looked in the book,I was obsessed by it for a while. Gruesome things were written and displayed in it,the most horrible thing must've been the Maya-period...

Just then, something flashed in the corner of an eye and I looked around.

"Nothing" I murmered and I began reading again. "Aha! This must be it!" as I saw a sacrement of which the Ripper "followed". Only to get a hit on the head.

"Ouch!" I yelled and I passed out. Just before my eyes went down,I saw the guard coming in and the guard got shot.

.......... Darkness............

......Total Darkness........
.......Could this be the end?........

"Psss, over here!" Cain whispered and waved Zeo over as he saw the thin detective arriving at Dock street looking around for them.

Zeo stealthily hid beside Cain, and told him of the things he found out with the Yard. "They may have more information for me later. How the situation here?" Zeo asked.

"There were quite a few people coming in and out from this seemingly abandoned building. They all entered from the side door over there." Cain pointed at a dark alley and Zeo could vaguely see a small entrance. "They knocked in a peculiar rhythm, and than they all said something before the guard let them in. It's probably a password, but i cannot read their lips because the shadow hid their faces."

Zeo stood his collar up against the chill of the night. "We'd need to know the password in order to get in. The front door and all the windows are barred, this seemed to be the only entrance..."

"One more thing," Cain added, "of the people coming in and out, I noticed that most of them are young women, but then, there were a few older men. The men usually are more secretive and tried to hid their faces, but from their figures i can tell they are mainly middle-aged."

"Young women.... speaking of which, where is Vulkie?" Zeo finally noticed.

"I asked her to go check the library on ancient rituals. Actually, she's been gone for a long time. She should've been back by now..." Cain relied.

"I'm sure she's just getting stuck with the guards. I'll go help her out. The library is not that far from here. We'll be back in no time."
