"This book was written by Heimlich VonVictor & describes true events that occured during his time as a detective." As he finished these final words on his manuscript he dropped his pen onto the desk. He had just referred to himself as a detective in the past tense for the first time in his life.

He didn't want to believe that it was over, but when one takes pen to paper and scribes one's life story as a matter of record, there was a sense of finality to it.

He picked up the stack of papers before him, each page a piece of a life he would never get to live again. He looked up at the framed newspaper article celebrating his 100th case solved as a detective. It had already started to yellow and fade.

He walked over to the cabinet and pulled out a bottle of gin and a glass. Even if it was a bittersweet occasion, it called for a celebration, and that meant a good Tom Collins.

He looked up at the plaque on the wall that his agency presented him upon his retirement.

"Retirement! Psh! That's rich!" he grumbled out loud to no one in particular. He remembered the exact conversation.

Eric had called him into his office and said it very clearly, "Heim, you're a liability. Some of the stunts you've been pulling lately have got the other detectives mighty scared."

He had tried to brush it off, "I'm a liability!? Do you realize how much money I pull in for this agency each year? You should be down on your hands and knees thanking me for being able to make bank!"

Eric sighed at him, "Heim, I can't keep you on. The Baltimore incident was the last straw. We'll let you retire, and we'll let it look like it was your decision to do so. We'll keep it out of the papers."

What choice did he have? He had put on a grin, went to the dinner, accepted his plaque, and faded into obscurity.

He was reliving this oh so favorite of memories when the phone rang. Startled, he dropped his drink on the floor and the glass shattered.

"Nice kicks!" Zeo smiled in appreciation for Von Victor's timely martial arts skills.

The older man picked up the gun and tossed it to Zeo. "You may need this more then i do, Joseph." Zeo may not have his own gun but he still had the handcuffs. The thin detective chained the russian woman to the heat pipe before they headed down the hallway quietly.

The trail was not hard to find, given the cable to the detonator led them right to their target. The room was empty except for the large cube of a trigger by the window overlooking the lawn where Roosevelt was delivering his speech.

Zeo locked his eyes on the detonator as he entered the room. Suddenly someone knocked him down with a single punch in the head; it felt more like a ton of bricks. As Zeo 's vision cleared he saw Heimlich kicking Leon in the head. The Russian didn't even flinch. Leon grabbed Heimlich by the neck and was crushing his windpipes.

"Stop!" Zeo grabbed his gun and aimed at the stocky Russian man. Leon was distracted for a second. Heimlich pulled his knee into the man's stomach, temporarily freeing himself from his iron grip.

'Now!' Zeo thought to himself as he was about to pull the trigger. His vision blurred again. Two Leons. Zeo cursed to himself. Why did it always had to happen at the wrong time? Didn't the doctor said the brain clog was gone? Two Heimlichs lurched himselves onto two Leons. It was getting blurrier and blurrier by the moment. Zeo knew he may not have much time. The blob was struggling and he could hear Heimlich grunting through clenched teeth. From the sound of it he was losing....

No time left. Zeo fired.

A blob fell down, right on top of the detonator, triggering it.
"Sh*t!" Zeo cursed.

Eric worked feverishly at the device. He had removed three locking coils and he had just one more. He lit another match with one hand and moved a pair of tweezers towards the final coil. It was more sophisticated than any other device he'd ever seen before. It was amazing that the Soviets knew how to do something like this already!

He removed the final coil as the match burned out. He reached into his pocket, one match left. He lit it and held it a safe distance away from the device. If it got too close it could ignite! One single piece in the center was the ignition trigger. It appeared to be some kind of plastic explosive.

Sweat dripping down his forehead, hands shaking, he slowly moved the tweezers into place and pulled the core out! He didn't have it two inches out of its spot, when a click was heard and the detonating spike was driven into the spot where the explosive had been one second before! Any later and the entire block would be gone.

What was going on? Had his friends survived? Had Leon Kobetz won?

Heimlich slid down the wall coming to rest sitting on the floor trying to catch his breath. Joseph looked disoriented, but fired a single shot into Leon Kobetz's chest! Kobetz cried out in pain and landed on top of the detonator!

Heimlich let out a gasp... and there was nothing. Eric had done it!

"Good show Joseph!" Heimlich choked out, "Looks like we've saved the day once again!"

"Argh!" a voice interrupted Heimlich. Leon Kobetz stirred and pulled himself to his feet. Bleeding from the chest he had the look of a man blind with rage. He picked up the detonator and pressed it, once, twice, three times! A repetitive clicking noise began to sound. Heimlich looked up to see Joseph attempting to fire an empty gun!

Both of them stared at the gun in horror. Leon Kobetz reached into his jacket pocket and produced a hunting knife. A look of madness in his eyes he charged towards Joseph. Heimlich threw his leg out and tripped the muscular Russian sending him off balance.

Joseph charged and caught Leon in mid stumble. With all his might he shoved Leon Kobetz backwards! Leon jumped backwards trying to keep his balance, but failed. He fell backwards shattering the window and tumbling out of it.

Joseph ran over to the window. Leon let out a earsplitting scream as he hurtled down three stories before hitting an awning, bouncing ten feet in the air, and landing face down in the street. The president stopped his speech as the entire crowd grew quiet.

As Leon attempted to pull himself to his feet, the sound of no less than twelve guns cocking was heard. "Don't even think about moving! You're under arrest!" one of the agents surrounding him ordered.

Heimlich could hear the sound of feet charging up the stairs and knew they were about to be arrested.

Joseph saw a group of agents leading Sergei away and knew what it meant. They would tell him he was a hero, but once the Kobetz connection was proven, he would be indicted.

Could it really be over?

When the agents all crawled over me,with their guns towards me,I saw that I only had a fleshwound in my arm. Good luck to that. But now,I was under arrest.

Suddenly, glass shattered and I saw a body falling down the apartment. "NO!" I yelled and the agents looked at where I pointed. They saw it too and "SPLAT". The president stopped talking, looked shocked and was taken away by agents, while I went with some agents towards Joseph and Heimlich. "You're under arrest" the agents said. "No,they're not. Look at this!" I said and I pointed to the detonator. "The man who fell out of the window, would've detonated the bomb under the audience. Luckily..." I said and just then,Marvington came rushing in.

"Eric. You did it! How can I ever repay you?" I said, with a glamourous smile. "Well, you could..." Eric said and I immediately gave him a kiss. It was a whole new love...

"Agents, can you take us towards the president. I think we all have some explaining to do..." I said and so I,Heimlich,Joseph and Eric went towards city hall.

As the crowd was looking at us,one began to clap and soon, everyone began to clap for us. We all smiled towards the audience and with that smile,we walked into city hall.

And there he was,the president of the United States, with a cup of water and the Mayor also. And so,we began to explain....

Regardless of their badges and explanations, Heimlich and Joseph were held responsible for the commotion they caused. Along with Natasha whom they found handcuffed by the corridor, the group was whisked away in nondescript black vehicles. As the cars pulled away, Zeo saw the red headed Marvington on the lawn holding the defused bomb and talking to some agents.

Zeo realized that instead of going to the New York police headquarter, they were taken to the new establishment housing the United States Bureau of Investigation. Each detective were hurled into small separate rooms and drilled over hours on end. They were striped of the rights to phone calls, and were deprived of sleep and food. Slowly Zeo lost track of time itself.

When the evidence and records poured in, the bureau realized the heroic acts the detectives and were eventually released. An officer whom they met back at the city hall apologized for the treatment they were put under, for the ordeal involved the safety of the President of the United States. "Let me take you to the door." The young officer said politely.

As Zeo and VonVictor passed by the central investigation room (war room) with large glass windows, Zeo was drawn to a middle age men with cropped hair and the face of iron, who was taking him and Heimlich apart piece by piece with his eyes. Zeo couldn't help but to have his gaze held by the man with the commanding aura. Some officers shows the commander some files, and the man's eyes lowered, allowing Zeo to finally look away. The thin detective then realize his palms were sweaty.

"That's our chief, John Edgar Hoover." The younger officer said, "Thanks to him, we're going through transformation. The department will soon be renamed."

"To what?" Heimlich asked.

"Federal Bureau of Investigation. The FBI, they're already calling it." The young officer smiled and took the two to the door, where Marvington was impatiently waiting. "Vulkie's still in the hospital." He barked, "Let's go!"

As I was being treated by the doctor,it was only a fleshwound. "Thank you doctor" I said and as I was about to leave,I saw Eric,Joseph and Heimlich walking in. "Eric!" I said and I rushed towards him, hugging and kissing him. Joseph and Heimlich looked a bit ashamed. Joseph gave me a "Get a room"-look and Heimlich a " This is still a hospital"-look.

"It was just a fleshwound guys. I will survive" I said and I smiled.

"Sure you will. You will always get over things, just like that one time with "Elle Driver" " Joseph said(see Mysterious Appearance for reference).

"Alright Joseph,we need to get you to a doctor" Heimlich said and I was curious why. He had nothing to see first, but then I wondered.... "Joseph... Is your "head" alright at the moment?" I asked.

"No" Joseph replied. "No,when I saw Heimlich and Leon fighting,I saw double of them. So I fired maybe first time good, but I tried to still shoot at them when my gun was empty... I..." Joseph said.

"No worries" Marvington said. "I'll get you a doctor".

And so it seemed, that Joseph's "headproblem" wasn't serious. He just suffered from a bit of stress and needed to rest very long ^^.

And so,the gang departed out of the hospital, out in the open, while Heimlich began to speak...

"I don't know how I can thank you all enough for what you've done." Heimlich

"Don't mention it!" Vulkie responded, "A little excitement is good for the heart!"

Heimlich smiled and glanced at his friends, Eric and he had mended fences, he had made a new friend in Joseph, and Vulkie had shown herself to be a true friend in a time when he felt that he had none.

"So are you going to defend Sergei? He's been arrested you know." Joseph asked sadly.

Heimlich shook his head. "I don't think he'd want me defending him at this point." he answered, "I'm afraid that he'd feel he was troubling us further at this point. I will offer, but I won't force him to accept my help."

Eric shook his head. "If it wasn't for him we wouldn't have been able to save the president." he lamented, "It's not right that he should be arrested."

"Excuse me sir?" a voice behind them said. The detectives turned around to find a tall bald man standing there clutching a letter. "My name is James Farley and I've been sent by the President to deliver this letter to the detectives who helped to prevent the assassination attempt. I've been searching everywhere for you!"

Heimlich stepped forward and took the letter. "James Farley..." he pondered, "the Postmaster General of the United States?!"

Farley smiled, "One in the same sir. The President has asked me to convey his thanks and present you with this letter. Now I'm afraid I must be on my way." With that he tipped his hat and walked off.

Heimlich examined the letter, which bore the seal of the President on the envelope. He quickly tore into the envelope and pulled out a letter. As he examined the letter his eyes grew wide.

"We... we've been invited to the White House in a month's time!" Heimlich exclaimed.
