Besides making you feel all cool and like a veteran detective, what is the point behind experience points? Does their purpose become obvious as the mysteries get more challenging and you have to step up your detective game?

Most important though are that you get skill points as a function of your exp.points, and skill points can be used to buy some really neat skills ;-)
