Place: Docks
Time: 11:30 p.m.
Weather: Freezing cold

"What the heck am I doing here?", the woman muttered under her breath. She let out a deep sigh, seeing something similar to fog coming out of her lips. It was a very cold night, indeed. The dark-haired, Italian-looking woman looked at her pocket watch.

"Late, as usual", she stated to herself, since she was alone. She had the habit of talking to herself. It helped her put ideas on the right places. And, as a bonus, helped her feel less lonely.

"You know, girl, you should never have agreed to meet him. But yet you did. Why? Because you're stupid."

She shook her head. No. It had nothing to do with stupidity. Or the feelings she had to admit she still had, partially. It was the box. The box with some of her things he still held with him. He had it, she needed it. That sounds like a pretty good reason for an encounter. An encounter, not a date, by the way. Dating time was over.

"You should be resting, Tina", she told herself. She usually gave herself pretty good advice. She never followed it, though. Another look at the watch. It reminded her. It had been a gift from him. She'd better return it. She let out a tired sigh. "I'll be here by ten. Yeah, right. When hell freezes over."

She was considering the idea of leaving when she heard footsteps. HIS footsteps, unmistakeable. She had to fight the temptation to jump on his neck with a tight hug, like before. She simply held out her hand and nodded. She didn't trust herself to speak right at the moment.

[P.S.: I don't have a big plan, and I know it's not perfect, but I'd love if someone joined. I promise I won't forget to check it out. lol]

Valentina had finally came up with the courage to call Zeo and talk to him. She agreed to meet him at the Music Hall, trying to ignore all the memories that place brought her, both good and bad. Putting aside the memories, she heard what Zeo had to say, her mind capturing about half of all that. She was still in shock, after all.

After a while, though, her mind 'woke up' and started paying attention and drawing conclusions. She heard Zeo's words in silence till he stopped talking. A faint smile appeared on her lips.

"Yeah, I know. You're the smart one here. I just... do things. You think. Maybe that's why we were such great partners and such terrible... friends."

She used the word friends to replace another word in her mind. She wasn't in the right mood to deal with three problems at once. After a while, she looked deep into Zeo's eyes.

"If he wants me, darling, I wouldn't dream of disappointing him. But I think he'll get much more of me than he ever dreamt of."

She took her pistol out of her pocket and showed it to him. It had been a gift from Zeo, and she only used it when she was determined to kill.

"Remember her?"

"Yes I do." Zeo smiled. The handy silver pistol Zeo gave D'Angeli years ago looked as good as new, but Zeo knew better that the small firearm had her share of the action in the past. As if on cue, the upright piano took in a bullet; someone had fired through the door and into the box of the instrument where Zeo had been sitting just a moment back.

The two old partners ducked immediately. More bullets rained into the small studio. D'Angeli rolled towards the door and fired two shots in the direction where the bullets came from. They heard a heavy thud of someone falling down from the other side. D'Angeli opened the door and fired two more shots just in case.

She was about to exit when Zeo pulled her in. "There might be more people waiting for us out there." Zeo nodded towards the window. "Let's try the 'alternative'." D'Angeli smiled. Zeo opened the window and a sniper from the roof shot Zeo in the shoulder.

"Joseph!" D'Angeli exclaimed and pulled Zeo down.
"I'm alright." Zeo winced. He pressed onto his shoulder; it was bleeding heavily. "Sorry... guess we have to get out... the 'traditional' way..." He took out his revolver with his good arm.

D'Angeli and Zeo returned to the main music hall. Children held down by the adults were sobbing in fear from the gun fight. Some were hiding under the pianos. No one else was in sight. The two partners dodged from piano to piano towards the exit. They knew the studio would be a safe place again as soon as they leave.

Suddenly flashes from a tommy gun destroyed a grand piano next to them. Noise from the gun and the broken cords and the crying children screamed in the air. They dashed for the exit as D'Angeli fired in the direction of the tommy gun. The man hiding in the corner with the tommy fell. D'Angeli refilled her pistol and the two exited from the music hall.

The street outside was partially lit with weak street lamps. D'Angeli could only pick out three gunmen; Zeo was the one with better vision in the dark. Both partners ducked as more shots ran across the doorway. They hid behind a dumpster. Zeo aimed and took out the closest man. More people seemed to have appeared in the dark.

"Two at 1 O'clock, two at 10 O'clock. Snipper's on the roof 'bove the bar." Zeo breathed. D'Angeli could see his face was paper white even in the dim light. Tina knew he'd need medical attention soon or Zeo wouldn't make it. Tina fired at the roof and someone fell, clashing onto to a car parked outside the bar. More screams.

"Sh*t, they're closing in! Give me your 'volver." D'Angeli fired with both guns, taking out another two men, but more minions just seemed to appear. Finally they ran out of bullets. "I'm sorry, Joseph." She kissed him in the forehead.

The sounds of screeching tires come with the yelling voice of Vulkie. "Get in! Now!!!!" D'Angeli picked up the half conscious Zeo and dashed for the car. Vulkie fired her tommy to cover for them. Before both partners were totally inside the car Vulkie had already stepped on the accelerator, and they sped away with bullets trailing behind them.

Valentina closed the door, while Vulkie drove away with the car. More men were following us in a car. "What happened?" Vulkie asked Valentina. "None of your business girl. Now,just get us out of here!" Valentina replied. "There is an old pistol in the glove compartment with 6 bullets and one in the chamber already. Be wise to use it" Vulkie said and handed the revolver to Valentina. "Fire when you can and be wise with the bullets", Vulkie once more said, when she made a fast turn to the right. The men behind Vulkie and Valentina also made a right turn. The men shot at us. Valentina carefully aimed.... And shot the driver. The car with the men crashed and I stepped on the brake. "Get one alive,we may need him. Put him in the trunk." I ordered Valentina and she did so. As she stepped in,she was shot in her leg and shot the men who shot her dead. "Damn,I shouldn't have done that, getting that guy." Valentina replied.

And so we sped away, once more. I drove us towards my own safehouse in the docks. As we reached the docks,I opened the door for the garage, drove the car in and shut the door tight.

As Valentina took care of Joseph, while Vulkie took care of her leg. "You know Valentina, you really care about Joseph, don't you?. So what's the story with you two?" Vulkie asked. "None of your business. Stay out of it" Valentina replied. "I know you're still mad at me,but come on,I just saved your lives." Vulkie said. Vulkie cautiously removed the bullet from Valentina's leg and bandaged Valentina's leg nicely.

And so Vulkie went to bed, while Valentina stayed with Joseph... The next day,Vulkie thought,we can interrogate the crook who we stashed in the trunk...

Valentina's leg ached from the bullet, but she could take it. On the other hand, she couldn't see Joe like that, half-dead, without feeling an immense fear of losing him.

So what if she didn't have him for herself? At least, he was around. Some of the time. The Italian woman caressed Zeo's hair after refusing to tell Vulkie anything about their story. It was better off this way.

After making sure Joe was going to be fine, Tina laid with her head on his good shoulder and sighed. It had been so long...

After another sigh and a soft kiss on his pale lips, she closed her eyes and fell straight asleep, feeling perfectly safe there, next to the sleeping man...

The next morning Valentina woke up to see a very pale Joseph. His face was cold and clammy to the touch. Valentina called his name but Joesph failed to respond. She yelled for Vulkie.

Vulkie checked to make sure that they were not being followed, and sped Joseph to the hospital, with the crook still stashed in the trunk.

Zeo woke up in the Cook County hospital to see a worried looking D'Angeli beside him. Apparently she had been crying. Zeo's mouth was dry. He squeezed Tina's hand, which was held tight to his all day long. She was delighted to realize that he finally woke up.

"What happened?" Zeo asked in a throaty voice.

"You were out for 3 days! The doctor said you lost too much blood. Oh we were so worried! But now that you have woke up, oh, let me call Vulkie and let her know. She had been interrogating that goon in her safe house." D'Angeli got up and went to the phone by the door.

"What have she found so far?" Zeo felt great pain on his shoulder and as if he hadn't eaten for days, then he realized that he really hadn't.

"Only that Domino sent them. She is trying to find out more about their plans..." D'Angeli replied while she was holding the phone. "This is strange, Joseph... Vulkie is not picking up the phone." Tina tried again and again. Still, Vulkie was not answering. Something was terribly wrong.

As Vulkie interrogated the thug in her apartment, she discovered that Dominic sent them to the three of us. "Where is Dominic" Vulkie asked and gave the goon a punch. "Not going to tell you." the thug replied. Vulkie took her revolver out and gave the thug a pistol whip. "Now,you tell me,or I have to ask it with a bullet in your leg. We don't want that, huh?" Vulkie asked the thug. "Alright,Alright. He's in Costa Rica, hiding for ya guys. He's terrified of yer, being so close on his tail. He know what you're up to,yes. We shall see who wins huh?" the thug replied.

Just then, the phone ringed. Vulkie was about to pick it up,when she heard noises behind her. The thug managed to free himself and came viciously running to Vulkie. She ducked to the right and fired three bullets. The thug wasn't hurt by the bullets, but the thug was a bit afraid.

"Now,you going to sit nicely on that couch, while I pick up the phone. Don't try anything stupid or else...." Vulkie said.

As she got up,went to the phone and almost picked it up,she heard a loud thump and all darkness was there....

"Joseph....." it echoed in Vulkie's mind," Valentina....."

"WAKE UP!" someone screamed towards Vulkie. Vulkie carefully opened her eyes, blinded by lights. A local policeman, working for Dominic, had bound Vulkie up and there she hung, three feet from the ground, out of a window, with a hell of a view of the sea.

"You've been causing me a lot of trouble, you guys.", the policeman said.
"Yeah,Dominic is into hiding now, thanks to you guys. You scared the sh*t out of him,by discovering too much about his "plans" ", the policeman said.

"Haha, great to hear that. Hope he's rotting in Costa Rice from fear, that we pay him a visit there." Vulkie replied.

"Haven't ya heard dear Vulkie? Your friend,Zeo,is dead. Yes,some gangster shot him and phoned me. Unfortunately,we can't seem to find your sweet friend D'Angeli. She managed to give us the slip" the policeman replied.

I broke in tears.....

"Joseph...." I whispered.... "he's not dead!" I yelled at the policeman. "I know he's not dead. Valentina must've killed the gangster you sent after them." Vulkie yelled.

"Well, this is where we say goodbye Vulkie. So,goodbye" the policeman said.

And so,the policeman shot the rope, which holded Vulkie. And she plummeted into the water, her hands tied up and feet tied up.

Vulkie tried to swim upwards, but it was no use. Vulkie had no more strength left in her, knowing that Joseph died.....

Just then,a fisherman passed by with his rowboat, saw what happened and dived after Vulkie. The fisherman layed her in the boat, made sure she was comfortable and rowed back to shore.

As soon as Vulkie woke up, she thanked the fisherman for saving her life and quickly went to the Cook Country Hospital.

As she arrived there, she saw it was a mess. All bloody, bullet holes everywhere and only one frightened nurse left. "Zeo,where is Mr. Zeo?" she asked carefully. "Room 29 miss." the nurse replied.

As Vulkie went to room 29,she saw bodies everywhere. All of them died...

When Vulkie arrived at room 29,she saw a quick scribbled note from Valentina. "Can't explain,Joseph's fine. Don't believe anyone that he's dead. Only has fleshwound to arm. Meet at...". And there, the note stopped.

Seems Valentina was interrupted during the writing,as if there was another thug. Vulkie's heart almost filled with joy, knowing that Joseph didn't die after all.

As Vulkie left, she saw a body of a gangster laying in the closet for clothes.

"Well,I'm sure he's all dressed up nice and tight for his funeral" Vulkie thought and went to her apartment, waiting for Valentina to call.

As she arrived at the apartment,Vulkie bolted the door tight, making sure all windows were secured and closed, with curtains shoved before them.

And then the phone rang....
