Place: Docks
Time: 11:30 p.m.
Weather: Freezing cold

"What the heck am I doing here?", the woman muttered under her breath. She let out a deep sigh, seeing something similar to fog coming out of her lips. It was a very cold night, indeed. The dark-haired, Italian-looking woman looked at her pocket watch.

"Late, as usual", she stated to herself, since she was alone. She had the habit of talking to herself. It helped her put ideas on the right places. And, as a bonus, helped her feel less lonely.

"You know, girl, you should never have agreed to meet him. But yet you did. Why? Because you're stupid."

She shook her head. No. It had nothing to do with stupidity. Or the feelings she had to admit she still had, partially. It was the box. The box with some of her things he still held with him. He had it, she needed it. That sounds like a pretty good reason for an encounter. An encounter, not a date, by the way. Dating time was over.

"You should be resting, Tina", she told herself. She usually gave herself pretty good advice. She never followed it, though. Another look at the watch. It reminded her. It had been a gift from him. She'd better return it. She let out a tired sigh. "I'll be here by ten. Yeah, right. When hell freezes over."

She was considering the idea of leaving when she heard footsteps. HIS footsteps, unmistakeable. She had to fight the temptation to jump on his neck with a tight hug, like before. She simply held out her hand and nodded. She didn't trust herself to speak right at the moment.

[P.S.: I don't have a big plan, and I know it's not perfect, but I'd love if someone joined. I promise I won't forget to check it out. lol]

Valentina wasn't used to all that mess anymore. And car chases weren't usually a part of the job. She had her gun on her, but she was in no condition to use it, so she left it up to Vulkie and hoped that would do.

The worst part was definetly the bridge, but they had passed by, so that was fine. When they reached the safe house, a very pale and dizzy Tina allowed Zeo to help her out of the car and into the house. She sat on the first place she found and accepted a glass of water from Vulkie's hands. Food was the last thing in her mind at the moment.

She dodged the questions about the box, though it made her feel a little guilty. Those two had laid their lives on the line over something they didn't know anything about. Well, she'd open up the box in the morning.

With that in mind, she laid on the couch and slept like a baby. She could feel something being put over her body in the middle of the night, probably a blanket, but she didn't move. In a few seconds, she was deep asleep again. Nothing else disturbed here till daylight, when she felt the distinct smell of coffee. Her pitch black eyes opened slowly and she sat on the couch, pushing the blanket away. Her hands pressed the sides of her forehead and she sighed. She had been having those headaches for quite a while. As far as she could remember, they had started about six months ago, and sometimes they were so bad she could hardly remember her name. Another sigh. And they made her really...

Her line of thought was suddenly cut by a strong wave of nausea. She barely made it to the bathroom, kneeling in front of the toilet and coughing out whatever she had eaten the day before. She only noticed she wasn't alone when Zeo's hand pressed up her forehead. She couldn't look at him for a while more, but when there was nothing left to throw up, she did, and forced a smile. The headache was almost blinding now.

"I'm fine...", she murmured softly, knowing she looked anything but fine. "But thanks for being ...

Vulkie was off to get some more information about the fat man that smokes cigars. As she made her way towards the Hencloth bar in the city, she noticed that a car passed by. ''Get in'' a man like voice said. What options did Vulkie had? Run away and get hit by the car. Or get in and risking getting killed. She chose for the second option. The man was behind a wall of darkened glass,so Vulkie took place on the opposite side of the glass. A huge smoke came floating towards the glass and Vulkie immediately knew who this person was.

''What do you want from me'' Vulkie said. ''Just some information dear lady. You will get 25 grand if you can help me get the box.'' Vulkie thought about the offer. She could definitely use the money, since she needed some new clothes and some nice meals. She happily accepted the offer and made a deal. If she could get the box to the fat guy,she would receive the 25 grand and Joseph and Valentina would be safe.

And so she started plotting with the fat guy...

D'Angeli seemed very sick. Zeo wonder what's wrong with her. He laid her down in bed, and noticed that she kept the box with her while sleeping.

"Nobody can open that, Tina, you don't have to be so..."
"You just don't know how important this is." That's all D'Angeli said before she drifted back to sleep.

Vulkie returned around midday, with a look of satisfaction on her face. Zeo, of course, didn't notice it.
"So, how did it went? Have you found out more on the fat cigar man?"
"Yes, the name's Domino on the street, but that's all I have. I heard that the tea merchant know more about him though, and since you have him as your contact, maybe you should go have a chat with him."
"Sure," Zeo took up his trench coat from the kitchen chair. "I'll go now, while it's bright and sunny out. I'm sure the fat Domino wouldn't do much during the day."
"Where's Tina?" Vulkie asked.
"In her room, sleeping. She's sick." Zeo replied while putting on the coat. In the winter time, the sun can lie about how cold the temperature really was outside. "Poor girl is sleeping with her box on her." Zeo smirked, "Not like we're going to steal it or anything. See you back in a while." Zeo left from the side door.

Zeo lived very close to the teahouse, so he decided to walk. Five minutes down the road, Zeo remembered the rare tea leaf he got from Delhi. It could be a nice gift to the tea merchant. He returned to his house. As he approach the front lawn, he noticed Vulkie leaving the house. A car with tinted glass received her, and they left together swiftly. 'Strange,' Zeo thought. He went back inside.

...''So that's what you do after you obtain the box. Got it sweetie?'' The fat guy said. ''Yes sir. Just have the cash ready."I replied. Vulkie got out of the car as soon as it stopped and looked around. ''Great'' she thought, ''downtown and not a cab in sight of a mile''. Vulkie instead walked around the city, looking for some interesting stuff. She thought by herself what a traitor she would be if Joseph and Valentina would find out what she was doing..

As she returned to the safehouse a few hours later,Joseph stood behind the door. ''What you've been doing'' he asked politely. ''Well, nothing much. Met a rich boyfriend back from school. As you may have seen,he has a limo and he's doing very good now. He has his own liquor factory." Vulkie replied.

Vulkie went straight up,going to Valentina's bedroom. She was mumbling in her sleep. As she turned around,Vulkie took the small box from her and hid it in her coat. As she was trying to get out of the house,Joseph stopped her. ''Just to make sure, here is a sandwich. Enjoy it''. he said. Vulkie almost panicked, thinking Joseph may have seen her taking the box. ''Thanks'' she replied and went off.

The car drove by and she stepped in.

''Excellent dear, excellent. You have the box with you?'' the fat guy asked. ''Of course sir, here it is.'' There was a little compartment for trading stuff, specially made. I put the box in it and the fat guy took it out. ''Here's your cash, now get out!''.

As Vulkie got out,the car drove off. She hauled a cab, went to the bank and deposited the money.

When she got to the safehouse,Valentina and Joseph jumped on her. ''WHERE IS IT!!!!" screamed Valentina. ''I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!'' I screamed back.

They got off Vulkie and got her in a chair, aiming a gun at her. ''If you don't tell where the box is,you will get shot in three seconds.''

1,2,3. Vulkie closed her eyes and waited for the bang. She only heard a click....

''We don't want to kill you,we just want you to tell us the truth'' Joseph calmly asked with furious eyes. It was spooky to see Joseph like this. And so Vulkie told them the whole story.

.... ''The purpose of this was,to get some money of it. Fortunately,I kept the inside of the box with me. So the fat guy got nothing and we still got everything. ''

I placed the content on the table and said : '' I need to get some rest, you examine the stuff, while I'll take a little nap. Oh yeah, the money's safe in the back,so don't worry about that. We can go to the bank everytime we want.'' I replied.

And so I went off to bed....

Vulkie skipped up the steps two at a time.

"I thought you said you're the only one who could open this box..." Zeo stared at the table, astounded.

"You have a very intriguing friend, Joseph. What companies are you keeping lately?"

"Enough about me, Tina." Zeo picked the small colorful sculpture from the table and looked at it in the light, "Why would Domino want to hunt you down over a wooden bird?"

"This is a SabiĆ”-laranjeira, Joseph, but I wouldn't expect YOU to understand."

"Whatever," Zeo replied indifferently, "but you haven't answered my question. What is it that Domino is after?"

"When did I ever have to answer to you?" D'Angeli said crossly, and took the wooden bird from his hand. She carefully wrapped the sculpture in a handkerchief and put it in her coat pocket near her bosom. "We must go now."

"Where are we going?" Zeo asked.

Valentina had nearly panicked when she saw the box wasn't in her hands when she woke up. She thought her head would burst into flames, so bad it hurt. It had taken all of her self control not to shoot Vulkie right through the head. Good thing Joe was there. Good and bad. "Dio Santo, stop thinkin' about your personal issues and focus."

She let out a deep sigh when she saw the small sculpture and put it safely in her pocket. It would be really hard for someone to take it without her noticing. She'd have to be more careful.

"It's none of your bussiness."

The answer popped out of her mouth at Zeo's question. She took a deep breath.

"Sorry, it IS your bussiness. You're gonna drop me by my neighborhood. I've gotta pick up some important things. And then, we'll meet again... where?"

She waited for Zeo to answer for a couple minutes, but gave him no time to do so. Not before she jumped on him and gave him a tight hug, that ended as suddenly as it started.

"Sorry. It's two years late, I guess."

Zeo was confused. Two years ago they were the best partner in the same agency. Zeo was fond of D'Angeli, but he always find himself tongue tied whenever he wanted to express it to her. The only thing he ever did right was giving Tina that watch, which he noticed D'Angeli was still wearing. Then Lizette appeared. She was a client, but after Zeo solved her case the rich young girl lingered around him. D'Angeli stopped talking to both of them, and later she resigned from the agency and moved to the Latin part of town.

"What happened two years ago?" Zeo asked. D'Angeli gave Zeo an unreadable look and turned away.

"You better grab your coat now, I need to get to my neighborhood, quick."

"Let's pack for good. Domino will return when he find out your box was empty." Zeo when into the kitchen the flipped open some loose boards under the rug, took all the ammunition and money he needed. He then headed upstairs.

"Where are you going?"

"To wake Vulkie up. We must go now."

D'Angeli grabbed Zeo's arm and shook her head. "Uh-uh, that girl ain't going with us to my neighbourhood. She'd rat me out again."

Zeo looked up the stairs. Vulkie was the toughest cookie he ever met, he knew she can take care of herself. He left Vulkie a coded note to tell her to meet back at the Tricky Mister later tonight. By then, D'Angeli would've finished what she set out to find, and they can plot what to do next. Vulkie was sleeping deeply when he and D'Angeli drove away quietly in his car.

Valentina relaxed a bit when Zeo agreed to leave Vulkie right where she was. The Italian girl took a deep breath, calculating what she had to take from home. Money, of course, her second pistol - pistols where the only guns Tina trusted -, some clothes she couldn't do without...

The girl bit her lip. She had to get the house empty. But, how? What Zeo didn't now - actually, nobody else - was the reason why she had resigned her old agency and tried to erase her trace. Family. Her family. Her baby sister needed her. She had gotten really ill two years ago, and they only had each other. Her sister had gotten better afterwards, and she got back to work. But not in the same agency. Not with Zeo, and that girl. She couldn't stand to see it.

By the time they reached the point in front of a bakery, Tina told Zeo to stop.

"Here is where we split up. I'll go home, grab some stuff I need and... well, then we'll meet at the Tricky Mister. DON'T ask questions, don't follow me. It'll be better off that way. All right?"
