I spent over a week working on getting a map for the pyramids only to get trapped. If I knew every extension of this game involved a map, I would have gotten trap detection. I wish there was a way to get it now.

If anyone knows of any new challenges within the last year that doesn't involve a map (excluding secret #1), please let me know. Any books, shoes, anything out there for people who can't figure there way out of a catacomb? Anyway to get trap detection when I already have the pirate thing? Is there a way to trade them? Is there a way I can bribe Ben to get trap detection? Anyone have any ideas at all??? Thanks!!!

hehe not much help here but I think once you choose Hostage Negotiation, you cant get the trap detection. You cant have both..and you cant change it or trade it. Not as far as I know, anyway :)

I vaguely remember a similarly themed tirade recently, but I can't find it. I think it's a case of, if you 'hunt' a lot then hostage negotiation is beter for you, and if you're just content driven then trap detection is better for you.

Considering the pyramids section has you repeating the task multiple times this is a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' proposition if you don't have trap detection.

At the moment the game is *probably* skewed in favour of trap detection in the sense that there is a little more content that needs trap detection (catacombs, pyramids, ship vs villain hunting & multi city treasure hunting), and the cost & chance of being pirated has been reduced to the point where it doesn't mean that much.

Of course the difference wouldn't be so marked if the community hadn't asked Ben to reduce the cost of being pirated. So you win some you lose some.

Only way to fix that now is to either add new content that makes hostage negotiation more valuable and viable as a skill, or somehow change the faction mechanics so that you can change factions (which I don't like).

Like many other players I have given up on the pyramids and the cargo hold...too much time wasted there just to loose your map over and over again :(( As for new challenges..none comes to mind, sorry.

Happy and Turtledove, keep trying. Don't lose hope, you'll get those artifacts and those books eventually. I think I found several books there and traded certificates for 3 shoes already. So, those mazes are not impossible. ;)

Thanks everyone on your thoughts. I think I'm with TurtleDove about not wanting to waste even more of my time on these frustrating maps. :-)
