What Can We Do to Help Sleuth?

Last night I spoke of some ideas I wanted to discuss with everyone on how to give a little kick-start to Sleuth. I would like to share these now and hear feedback. These things are not required of the Admin, but things we can do as a community to try to get things flowing again.

NOTE: Please do not bring up the development team. That ship has come and gone. This post is aimed purely at community-oriented initiatives, not changing the game itself.

Also, I would like to note that many players have been doing some really good things around here. The contests for free subs, ctown's radio show, AVH matches. I do not mean to discredit any of this. It's all wonderful. I just think we can do a little more :-)

#1 Advertising - Let's get out there and spread the word. This is a great little gem that we have found and there are probably others that would love it as much as we do. Do you belong to another internet site? A Group for Nail-Biters with Herpes? Post on the message board about Sleuth! (well maybe not that, but you get my meaning) Let others know outside of Sleuth what a great place this is. I would especially target (for Noir) adults who enjoy logic-type puzzles. That is what kept me addicted to this game for so long.

Oh and someone mentioned getting new avatars for suspects and detectives... I am pretty good with Photoshop, so if the staff needs any help with making new ones, I can whip up a few!

Just let me know if there is a certain filter you use for coloring!

Ponies? I want a pony! And I think all the mods/editors should have a cape. That would be awesome! ;D

Firstly I'd like to apologise for coming into this discussion at such a late stage! I must confess I haven't looked at the boards for some time - due to RL and the fact that all of a sudden I seem to have a whole collection of new agents!

Having read through this thread I would like to reiterate some of the points that have been made.

I too discovered Sleuth via the Nancy Drew site and I do think advertising in the right places is the answer. Some people just connect with Sleuth and many don't. So we need a considerable amount of traffic in order to find those people. Even with some agency help - and I agree about keeping secrets secret and nudging people in the right direction - there is a lot of game time involved in completing all the available tasks and getting all the skills and so there is much here to offer newcomers. We could for example see if we could do an advertising exchange with Aveyond for example or similar games which are likely to attract the right kind of people.

And yes - it would be great to have some updates for senior agents from time to time, but that won't solve the issue of getting enough new people through the door.

Finally - congrats to the new Sleuth moderators and everyone who contributes to this game. You're very appreciated!

Yes yes, ponies would be fun!

Oh and something that was asked for a long long time ago... checkboxes in sleuth mail?

Hmmm...ponies...I'd rather like to be able to buy a race horse in Shanghai. I'd buy Three Legged Tom and...brake all his 3 leggs for making me lose so much money.
