Hmmm. I think it's roughly five for the first contact and then varies for the second, but possibly in the thirties on average?

as far as i can tell its random or at least i couldnt find any logic in it!

It is completely random. I got my contact after 10 or 15. Then my second came only a few days later. So it is completely random for everyone. I think Ben has said that in the past.
