Leopold Parr walked as fast as he possibly could in and around Victoria Station. The young officer had anticipated the arrival of his younger sister with great trepidation. He finally saw her waiting for him in a mauve overcoat and a large purple hat through the window of one of the station’s waiting rooms.

When Miss Violet Parr got up and walked out of the waiting room, Leopold’s walk turned into a sprint as he finally reached Violet and hugged her tightly in a collision of joy.

Violet pushed hard against his force not to fall on her back. She kissed him on the cheek and whispered. “Really Leopold, this show of affection can do with some self-restraint!”

“Two years in France…” Leopold replied, “…haven’t changed you a bit!”

“I know better than to let the French freely mold me to their pleasing!” Violet Parr huffed in a mock of indignation. Then she turned her gaze to a young girl standing next to her looking curiously and cautiously at Leopold. “…but I am afraid I can’t say the same about young Isabella.”

Leopold looked at his young niece in utter astonishment: Isabella was a pretty little thing with curiously mixed features. At such a young age, her skin looked like a yellowish tanned shade of ivory. She had long light brown hair, hazel eyes and a serious look of disapproval on her face.

Makensie arrived in London. Finally. She had decided to bring her son with her, at last minute, because, as much as she adored her dear friend, Ms Cevasco, she couldn't stand the thought of leaving her little boy behind.

As the train came to a stop, she stood up, helping her son with his things, as she grabbed her own.

They exited the train, and looked around.

Cody was engrossed in a small stone on the ground, as she said, "Come on Cody, give me your hand"

He slid his little hand in her own, looked up at her with the sweetest smile, which melted her heart.

"You are just like your Father", Makensie said, grinning.

"Daddyyyyy!", he said, with a squeel.

She tapped his nose with her finger, and said, "You will be seeing him soon, darling"

She walked along the sidewalk, and called for a cab.

"Take me to the nearest hotel. The best of the best please", she said, as her and her son got in.

*******

Few miles later, they were in front of a rich looking hotel.

"Thank you, kind sir", she said, as she paid for the fare, and gave him a generous tip.

As they got out, Cody looked at the man, and said, "Thank you kind sir", in mock of his Mom.

Chuckling, she ruffled his hair, and said, "Come on"

There was a restaurant beside the hotel, and she looked over.

She took a second look, and said, "Hmmm, no, that cant be Violet, and Mr Joey Bane?" She remembered him back on the cruise.

Cody tugged at her coat, and said, "Come on Mommy"

"Hold on dear. I think I see a dear friend, and two little ones, you may want to meet", she said, scooping him up in her arms.

As they entered the door of the restaurant, she put Cody down, and straightened his coat up.

Makensie always dressed Cody like a little gentleman. He actually looked like a miniature Clift Garrett, only had his Mom's big eyes, and her winning smile. The charm, and personality was all his Dad's though.

She approached the table, as Violet looked up.

"Well, Makensie!!! What a pleasant surprise, my dear friend", she said, standing up to give her a big hug.

"....and THIS must be, Cody James", she said, stooping down to Cody's level, and smiling.

"Pleased to meet you ma'am", he said, in the tiniest voice.

Makensie's eyes grew big ,as she smiled at how polite he was. She never has been so proud.

Violet seemed to melt, as she said, "Well, likewise, little man. You look so much like your beautiful Mom when you smile, but oh do you look like your father. Quite the charmer, too"

She stood up and smiled at Makensie, and said, "I have two little ones I would like you to meet"

As Makensie walked closer to the table, Joey Bane raised his eyes, looking up at her.

He stood, as a gentleman would when a lady approaced, and said, "Makensie Brewer! We meet again"

"Yes, so we do. Nice to see you again, Mr Bane", she said, with a slight smile.

He nods, and sits back down.

Violet pointed to two beautiful little girls.

"Twins?", Makensie said. "I don't believe it!"

Violet smiles, with a slight chuckle, and said, "I couldn't believe it either. This is Isabella and Victoria. Both of you, I would like you to meet my dear friend, Makensie, who will be Auntie Mak to you, and this charming little boy, is Auntie Mak's son, your brother"

The two girls exchanged glances, but both remained polite and in order, as they smiled.

Cody hid behind behind his Mom's coat, as Violet chuckled, and said, "If he is anything like his Father, that shyness wont last long"

They laughed, as Makensie said, "Violet, your daughters are gorgeous"

"Thank you, Makensie", Violet said, with a nod.

Violet said, "Would you care to join us?"

"Oh no, thank you. We got us a hotel right next door, and we really need to be going", Makensie said.

Violet frowns, and said, "I won't have that. You will stay at my home, and I won't take no for an answer. It's been a long time since we've visited, and I want my girls, and your boy to get to know one another, so, meet me back here in 30 minutes"

"If you insist, Violet. Thank you very much", Makensie said.

Looking at Joey Bane, Makensie smiled quietly, and said, "Good seeing you again"

Joey nodded, and said, "Likewise. I'm sure I will see you again"

She lifted her chin a bit, nods, then walks on, with Cody in tow.

Makensie walks out, sighs, and said to herself, "Clift, I wish you were here"

She didn't know why that feeling suddenly came over her, but, that's how it always was with her and Clift. She loved him, she always would.

Makensie saw a dog, a rather clean looking dog actually, sitting outside the restaurant, looking very mannerly.

Cody pointed, and said, "Dog"

"Yes, that's a dog", Makensie said.

The dog watched Cody, as he stared back, pointing, and smiling.

"Come on, Cody James. We have to go get our things in the room. "We are staying at Aunt Violet's house", she said.

He excitedly ran through the hotel doors, as Makensie hollered after, "Cody, don't run! Get back here with Mom!"

She groans, as she picks her pace up, chasing after him.

In his excitement, Cody James ran right into a strange man. He bumped into him and just as he was about to fall on his back he was held and picked by the strange man.

Cody had bit his tongue in the collision and now had a slight lisp. "Sowwy Siw..." Then as he recognized the man he shrieked in delight. "Dadddyyyyy!!!!"

"And how's my little champ doing?" Clift smiled in warm delight. He truly loved his son.

"Gwweat daddy!"

"What are you doing in London? And where's mommy?"

"She's wight hewe."

Mak finally reached Clift gasping and out of breath. Clift turned to her holding Cody in his arms and she shrugged. "Uncontrollable. Just like his dad."

"Mak! What brings you both to London." Clift kissed her and put his hand around her waist. She released herself for him grip. "Clift..." She said rather quietly. "We're in the lobby of a hotel."

"Can't a man hug his family?" Clift shrugged. "Here, where are your bags? I'll help you up to your room. Come on Cody, we men must carry the bags for mommy."

Cody immediately started tugging at a heavy suitcase. "Yes Siw."

"What can't he pronounce his R's?!" Mak shrieked.

"Don't worry Mak, I think he just bit his tongue. You're such a worrier." Clift said as he was grabbing a suitcase when Mak suddenly stopped him.

She looked at him and said. "That's okay Clift... We're not staying at a hotel. We're staying at Violet's..."

"What?" Clift Garrett was suddenly alert. "What Violet? Our Violet?"

"Yes, OUR Violet," Mak rolled her eyes. "Clift please do not over react and contain yourself, but Violet is in London."

'So the rumors are true' Clift thought.

"Clift, please do not overreact. You know Vi... She is a strong willed person and has a mind of her own. She felt safe in France as I explained to you so she stayed there..."

"Mak, stop making excuses for her... She kept me away from my only daughter for two years now. Plus why would she feel safe in France?"

"Well, maybe she thinks the English speaking community wouldn't venture into a non-English speaking country like France." Mak tried her best to defend Violet as always.

"Where is she?" Clift was determined but emotional.

Mak held Clift's hand. "She is in the restaurant around the corner but please do not go up to her right now. Let's us chat for at least five minutes, have some English tea and then you can take us to her."

"Why not now? Is my daughter with her?"

"Well..." Mak said.

"Well?" Clift insisted.

"The simple answer is yes." Mak finished.

Clift head was slightly turning. "Okay, I better sit down for at least five minutes. But you're not going to Violet without me."

"Just give yourself five minutes to cool before we go to her." Mak said.

Clift picked up his son and hugged him.

Cody James always had a soothing effect on Clift.

They sat on a hotel lobby couch and Clift started talking sports to Cody. He then suddenly told him. "This is your lucky day Cody, you get to meet your sister today." Clift smiled.

"I alweady did! And I have two sistews, not one." Cody James smiled joyfully. "Isabewa and Victowia!"

Clift's eyes widened and he gave Mak a very direct sharp look.

"Maybe we should make that ten minutes then." She said nervously suddenly flushed.

She sat down, blowing out some air, as Clift continued to stare at her.

"Two?", he said.

"Please do not raise your voice in front of our son", Makensie said, in a short, clipped voice.

Clift shook his head, then looks at his son, and smiled. "Hey buddy, how about you take your toy, and play right here beside Dad, ok?"

"Okay Daddy", Cody said, smiling.

She watched him as she said, "He sure loves his Daddy" Then she looks at him.

Clift looked at Makensie, and stared for a bit, then says, "Ok, two daughters. I have TWO daughters? Violet had TWINS?"

"Shhhhh, keep your voice down. I'm not explaining anything. It isn't my place to say a word", she said.

Clift's face grew red, as he said, "I can not believe that you did not tell me that I had more than one daughter. Where the hell is your loyalty?", he hissed at her in a whisper.

"LOYALTY? Oh, YOU have some nerve talking to ME about loyalty", she said.

She was so mad, she got up, going to get her a drink of water out of the fountain, as Clift rose up.

He grabbed her arm, spinning her toward him, as he said, "Just WHAT do you mean by THAT? I've been here for you, and our son, ALWAYS!"

Tears came to her eyes, whether it be in anger or what, she said, "You let go of my arm, and if u ever grab me like that again, it will be broke"

He rubbed his face with his hand, sighed, then said, "I'm sorry Mak. This just has me in complete shock, that Violet would lie to me like this"

"Do not judge her for that, Clift Garrett. You let her explain first, why she did what she did. THEN if you want to be mad, then by all means, be mad, BUT, listen first."

"You're right. I'm sorry", he said.

She nods, as she gets her drink, then said, "I suppose we should be going now"

He agrees, as he grabs their luggage, and they head out.

She looks at Clift, wondering what is going to happen, once he sees Violet with not one, but two, girls.

He puts his arm around her, reading her thoughts, as he always seemed to be able to do, then says, "Don't worry. It will be fine, but, I think I have a right to be upset"

She made no comment, as it wasn't really her business, or place to make any opinions. Violet was her dear friend, and she knows she has good reasons for telling him of only one child.

They make their way to the restaurant, as Cody holds both Makensie and Clift's hands, swinging in them , as they walked.

As Makensie was moving away from the scene, Violet followed her with her eyes until she disappeared from her sight. Bane was scouting Miss Parr head to toe in the meantime, with a somehow intrigued expression. ‘This woman makes me act strange…’ he was thinking. ‘She is indeed a…’delicious’ creature…HELL! I must be going nuts for thinking like this.’ He shook his head shortly to put away his thoughts and concluded: ‘I guess I gotta pay a visit to the dames real soon…’

Violet seemed to have drifted into a short memories flow for a moment, but she was quickly snapped out of it by the sound of Isabella’s steps clapping on the cafe’s marble floor, as she ran heading for the door. Apparently Pierre had managed to make a silent escape and slipped outside during the conversation. His peace had now ended though as Isabella finally reached him and started pulling on his face, chuckling with satisfaction.

Miss Parr raised her arm half way up in an attempt of posing a peremptory attitude and opened her mouth prepared to lecture her daughter again, but right there she stopped. She realized that, given the distance between them, talking to Isabella actually meant shouting at her. That was not a type of behavior she would allow herself, either in public or in private. She squeezed her lips in discontentment, lowered her head just a bit pointing an imaginary spot on the floor and smothered her hand gesture into miming the removal of a hair ran loose off her cheek. She then quickly recomposed herself as Bane spoke again, upon finally deciding to shoot his question anyway.

“Miss Parr…there is something I have to ask…in regard of your children. Is there any kind certainty related to their…fatherhood prov…”

Her face glanced as she cut him off straight, speaking in a calm, low, and yet imperative voice: “That is not an appropriate question to ask, Mr. Bane, regardless of the things you may think you have learned during the events that brought us together two years ago.”

Bane opened his mouth to say something more, but Violet stopped him, continuing: “Yet, in order to put your mind at ease and prevent your likely attempt to insist, I will ensure you that the Brotherhood does not present any kind of claim, as they are only interested in male characters. As far as anyone else would be concerned, they should not be, as they are both ‘my’ children.”

With this she elegantly raised the coffee cup to her lips and took a sip, generating a pause into the conversation and thus pointing out that the subject was closed to her. Bane decided to settle with her response and used the short break to ponder about what he should tell her ahead. He felt that he needed to warn her about the events on the train, yet he practically didn’t have any clearly shaped information.

Miss Parr had remained with the coffee cup raised in both hands and was switching quick looks between Isabella who was still outside and Victoria who was standing right next to her, studying closely the seaming of her dress. Somehow Violet didn’t feel comfortable having a large distance between her and her daughter in open space. She took another sip and placed the cup on the table, turning her eyes back towards Bane as he made his voice heard once more.

“Say…Miss Parr…Any particular reason for your return to this city?”

“You seem to have many questions today, Mr. Bane…” replied her avoiding to answer. “May I remind you that I own a residence in this city?”

“Indeed…” mumbled Bane slowly, half towards her and half for himself. ‘She’s hiding something, as usual.’

At that point Pierre entered running into the café, followed closely by Isabella. While passing by him, Bane grabbed her and stood up, lifting her in her arms. “Easy there, little lady, you might get yourself hurt running like that through the tables.”

Noticing he had lost his pursuer, Pierre attempted to brake, but instead he found himself sliding and hitting a nearby table, almost knocking it down. He quickly recovered and then returned close to Joey.

Isabella was laughing loud, appearing to be tickling by the position of Joey’s hands onto her. She stopped, put both hands on his face and said giggling: “Vous avez un nez plat!” She then laughed, covering her mouth with her hand. Victoria also laughed from behind her mother’s chair. Bane smiled widely at her, not having the vaguest clue what she had just said.

Violet widened her eyes and leaned her head back just an idea. “Isabella, it is not proper manners to comment on people’s appearance. Please…” she stopped here, sighing again in defeat.

As Bane put her down, his eyes fell upon a newspaper placed on an elegant rack right near the table. Its title was screaming about the man found dead on the train. “Well now…” he grumbled…”let’s see what they say about this. Maybe the police managed to ID this fellow.” He stretched for the paper and just as he was straightening up, he noticed Makensie and Mr. Garret approaching the entrance. He turned his eyes towards Violet and said with a slightly mocking smile:

“It appears your…’love triangle’ is due to be complete once again very soon, Miss Parr.” He tilted his head slightly to point her look towards them.

Violet’s eyes glanced in startle upon noticing Clift. As usual, she quickly recomposed her appearance, yet subtle signs of worry could still be read on her face by a keen eye. She knew she had to face him with the full truth sooner or later, but she had hoped this would happen under her terms. She was not though willing to take any reproaches, as she still considered that under the circumstances her carriage had occurred, she was the only one entitled to make any kind of decisions in this direction.
