Hi all -- Breit is recovering from her to-do this summer and my mother is gearing up for a round of radiation therapy, so I'm really trying to bring some cheer to our holidays. I'm doing everything I can think of, including Dungeness crab and Canasta for Christmas Eve and a movie night this weekend. But my question to you all is, What are some of your holiday traditions? And yes I don't care which holiday you celebrate, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Christmas or none of these; I just want to see if I can find some ideas and have a laugh at the same time. So Happy Holidays and let fly all!!!

Wow Aknas and I thought preparing for one day was hard enough lol. December must be a very busy month for you but it all sounds so wonderful. I love how it all seems so family orientated not to mention remembering the true meaning behind Christmas. It's years since I have been caroling it almost seems the tradition is fading here which is a shame.

David, Limburger cheese....well enough said :)

And to everyone I hope you all have wonderful holidays no matter how you celebrate. Just remember don't drink too much, I'll never forget the Christmas my grandma had too much to drink and spent half the day walking around town to try and feel better. We probably shouldn't have laughed, but it was an amusing sight especially as she rarely drinks and she saw the funny side too :)

Hi all again -- Just wanted to let you know that Christmas Eve went smashingly! We had a ball with the Dungeness crab and Canasta. And then before everyone went home, we did the gift grab. They loved it. My dad had his gift grabbed twice and finally got a bottle of wine, so he was happy. (I'll fess up. I grabbed a pair of snowflake earrings and a bottle of berry lotion so he could get the wine.) My mother swiped his box of truffles so she was delighted. All in all, a very nice night!

I also put on the Christmas dinner. A couple of relatives came back for that so we all enjoyed a roast and Yorkshire pudding. They talked and reminisced for hours afterward while I did dishes and snuck the dog leftover pieces of roast. One happy dog!

Aknas, your traditions sound wonderful, too. I wish I knew why the practice of carolling died out. I used to do that as a teenager too, but I haven't seen anyone do that outside of a fundraiser at the mall for years. It's just too bad. I hope you are having a wonderful time with your family. And that the wish comes true again next time you go to Mass for 9 days at 4 am.

Merry Christmas, all!! Happy Holidays!!

Awwww it sounds like you all had a wonderful time luc I'm so pleased.

My gingerbread house came out smashingly, I took photos of it as I was that happy with it lol. I didn't poison anyone nor where there lumps or burning of anykind so apparently my first attempt a cooking christmas lunch went well. In fact my Mum and Dad both asked if I would do the same next year because they had so much fun yay :)

Boxing day (or 26th for those who don't have boxing day) we went up to better halfs grandma's where there were 17 of us altogether and she cooked yet another big dinner for us all to eat. After that I got the chocolate fountain out for the kids so they could get all nice and messy :)

I hope everyone else had a great time I would love to hear what happened with everyones day :)

Hi all again again -- Hope you are enjoying the Holidays! One final question before the holidays are over and this thread becomes dormant. Are there any special traditions or customs you all have to welcome in the New Year? We here in the Breit household love to dog sit and party til the roof falls down while the parents are vacationing at a beach house. (And, boy, does that dog party!!!) We also drag out a board game and play it while watching the ball drop in New York on tv. We try to stay up longer than Dick Clark and most years actually succeed. (It helps that we live on the West Coast and have a three hour time difference.) But what do you all do? Any wild and crazy people out there who actually make a point to go out and watch the ball drop in person? (Boy would you have to be wild and crazy to brave that every year!) Or any couch potatos that have some wild and crazy traditions done at home? Tell us, Tell us, Tell us!!! Our inquiring minds WANT to know!

Have fun all and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!

: ) Not really a tradition....although Im the same way every NYE *grin* This year staying home, with snacks, and some wine...which, by the time midnight rolls around, I will yell in a heavy slur, as I do every year..HAPPY NEW YEAR,then cheer, and holler, for no other reason than I'm just a little too inebriated.... then, stay up half the night partying and acting stupid *grin* but atleast Im in my own home LOL :) Nothing special ,just fun lol......BUT some time in the future for NYE, I want to go to NY, and watch the ball drop in person!! That would be so much fun!! :o)

Have a very happy, and safe new year everyone!!! :o)))

Well, hello all. My cousin did not hurt himself for Christmas, but he had by New Years Eve. ;p
Sadly, my aunt couldn't come up. But I just had dinner with 2 aunts, 4 cousins under 5, an uncle, and my folks and lil sis. CRAZY!!!

How'd the no-rules baseball game go with the 5 year olds? Ours would've been even better with someone on crutches. (By the way, the only way to get someone out in no-rules baseball is to catch and pick up the batter--that way even 5 year olds know they've been tagged out and the rest of the team wears itself out more. Makes for a MUCH quieter meal afterward. But yes, CRAZY in capital letters! Happy New Year, Sara Lou!!! :-D Not Breit
