International financiers and shipping magnates Patankar & Santanelli have proclaimed a new age in luxury travel with the launch of their flagship ocean liner, the USS Sleuthetania!

The Sleuthetania offers unmatched comfort and opulence for her lucky passengers as she steams the worlds oceans and visits many ports of call.

These quests are available now to passangers of the USS Sleuthetania. The Sleuthetania calls at New York harbor and the port of Shanghai every few days.

Of course, Clift only kissed Violet Parr in his imagination.

For in actual fact, as soon as he leaned in to kiss her, Miss Parr, acting purely defensively, grabbed his hand and flipped him through the air using the Judo techniques she learned as a young girl. Mr. Garrett flew through the air landing with his back against the wall.

Miss Parr was not that shocked when she spoke. “Clift, you do, indeed, smell of ‘booze’.”

The next morning...

Clift woke up with a piercing headache in his room. Next to his pillow he found a purple note. Through the pain, he managed to quickly read it:

“Mr. Garrett,

I apologise for my behaviour last night -if you recall anything at all that is.

It may have been out of order but I acted rather instinctively. You yourself behaved quite boorishly with an alarming degree of vulgarity.

I should hope you accept my apologies if you recall your drunken conduct last night. If not, please ignore this letter as I will your apparent slipup.

Sincerely yours,

Violet Parr”

Makensie stood staring at the closed door, which Clift just walked out of. She couldn't believe all she heard. "People really do babble alot when they drink, but, as they say, Sober thoughts become drunken words...or something like that" .....

She actually grew angry. She didn't know if she was angry with Clift or herself.

Beginning to pace back and forth, she started thinking out loud to herself....."Just what kind of woman does he take me for? Have I ACTUALLY made myself appear that WEAK? Like a woman who wears her heart on her sleeve? PUHHH-LEEEZEE! I do care for that drunken fool but, does he think Im just going to fall all over him? Have I acted like an idiot and actually DONE that? This stops right now"

She stopped pacing, and started getting everything packed in her bag. She will be very glad to be off this boat in the morning.

***************************************

The following morning, she put a note on Clift's door. She didnt want to knock, she had no intentions of talking to him before she left. She still cared about Clift, and wanted to continue enjoying their time together , but, a fool she wasn't, and she had to write him this note.

Dear Clift

I thank you for coming to my room lastnight, and telling me how you felt, and a little about yourself. You do remember what you said, dont you? It made me open my eyes a bit to the idiot I have been.

I'm not anyones sucker, Clift Garrett. I apologize for appearing like I am some dampsel in distress. That I am NOT.

I am a strong woman....and I am sorry that I portrayed myself to be like a school girl in love. I'm sure not that.

A bit of advice though.....for any other woman who comes along for you to play with.....if you have something to say, dont wait until you are drunk to do it. It really doesn't become you, Mr Garrett.

I won't be contacting you. I wouldn't want to give you the chance to break my heart, now would I? If you want any further involvement with me, you know how to reach me.

Take care, and be careful in your travels,
Mak

She grabbed her bag, and headed to the exit of the boat, and back to London.

Makensie knew she would miss Clift, and be very hard for her to not contact him, but, her Mom always told her..."Makensie, you can't make yourself easily available to them men. They will shit all over you if you do. Dont ever be any man's doormat" "You can bet I won't, Mom", she said to herself, as she exited the boat.

Clift was, funnily enough, the last passenger to disembark the USS Sleuthetania.

He searched the whole ship and deck for Makensie Brewer and Violet Parr before he disembarked, but could not find either of the two women. He could barely even remember what happened the previous night. But from what he did remember he could not help feeling like a fool.

Clift knew that when he was drunk he was vulgar and even offensive. His man handling of both Miss Parr and Miss Brewer had offended both women greatly from the notes they both left him. He was still hurting from Violet’s judo throw and even more from Mak’s note "which hurt just as much as the judo throw.

He quickly went into Obelisk’s Shanghai Field Office and arranged for a beautiful red rose flower bouquet to be waiting for Makensie when she arrived to London along with a polite note of apology and a telegram he sent her:

“DEAR MAKENSIE STOP
PLEASE FORGIVE ME STOP
I WASN’T MYSELF STOP
CLIFT GARRETT STOP”

He had no idea where Violet Parr was in Shanghai so he gave instructions to have some flowers and an apology note sent to her apartment in London as well.

Clift was sad.

He had the friendship of two women last night, and his gruff behavior led him to lose them both, or at least lose their trail. He felt like another drink and another… but suddenly he remembered why he was here in Shanghai…

“Barry Grant is danger.” He thought to himself out loud. “…And I’ll be damned if I let my personal life get in the way of my investigation!”

Walking the streets of London is never fun. It's cold, damp, and boring.

But, Ace was stuck doing it. No cases, no favors, no nothing. Just wandering around like a lost puppy.

Ace stumbled over to the docks. He leaned against a pole and watched the ships come in. One was docking right now, and he always found it amusing to watch some of the people who come off.

A flood of people unloaded off a boat from Shanghai. Finally, way in the back, was a slim, beautiful woman, becoming disheveled trying to heave about four bags off the deck.

She nearly fell several times, the last time, one suitcase nearly falling in the water. It would've, if Ace hadn't caught it.

"Oh! Thank you!" The woman nearly shouted from behind her luggage.
"Here, let me take that." Ace grabbed the bag blocking her face, to see a very lovely short haired woman staring back at him.
"Tony Masters, at your service." He introduced. He would've done his signature salute, if it weren't for the fact that he was holding two bags. "You can call me Ace."
"Makensie Brewer! You can call me Mak." She smiled," Nice to meet you! Thank you again for catching my bag!"
"My pleasure. So, where are we taking these to, again?"
"My new flat in London, I suppose. So, I guess a taxi."

As they carried the suitcases down the pier, they talked. It came up that they were both detectives, and both in detective agencies. Then, Mak talked a bit about her Shanghai trip, Ace oohed at the mention of "Sleuthetania", and they reached the curb.

Ace hailed a cab and loaded Mak's suitcases into the vehicle. She told the driver where she was going, and they were off. But, not without Ace's parting message, "Look me up at Hunter's if you need anything while your in London.

The car pulled away, and Ace was happy with his new acquaintance.

As Makensie drove off, she thought about the events that happened on the ship with Clift, all the feelings she was feeling, then thought about this Ace.

"Quite a gentleman", she thinks. "Ugh, men...I must stay away from them. They are more trouble than they are worth"

She will be glad to be at her apartment. Heck, she will even be glad to be back at her own office. Back to normal, as they should be.

Smiling, because this mess was all over with, she started humming a happy tune, putting Clift Garrett out of her mind, and this new, handsome face Ace out of her mind as well.

From now on, she was concentrating on her work at the agency, and not getting involved with anyone. "No men", she says quietly.

Feeling determined, she said to the driver, "Next street, take a right please"

"But I thought you said you were..." The driver stammered.
"I know what I said, but I want you to make a right!" Mak interrupted.

They took a quick right. It was Mak's agency, of course. "If I want to think about work, not men, then maybe I should go to work." Mak thought to herself.

She grabbed all four suitcases and once again stumbled with them. She dragged them inside, and plopped them on the floor.

"Ah, home at last!" She exclaimed out loud.

Mak cheerfully hopped out of the taxi, grabbed flipped the driver his money, and went
