You can go to the detective shop on your map to buy clothes and shoes, or when you do favors for the townies, you will be given items too.
An office...you have to be subscribed to to join an agency. Which, when you do that, and join one, you can create your office on the message board through roleplaying...that adds alot of fun to the game :).......
Home...as far as like an apartment....I believe u have to be subscribed to buy an apartment.
