How do I get in with other orders other than the one with the church?

There are 3 factions in each city that you can get in good with. What you need to do are cases that they approve of and quit cases they dont until you are at least with a positive 1 with them. Then you need to just keep doing the little jobs until you get what you want.
I do not think being subscribed has anything to do with it.

where do i find these other orders, though? i know to go to the church for the one, but what about the others?

The DAB (Dies Arcanum Brotherhood) is the one with the church (I'm guessing you've found them ;-). The LCN (La Cosa Nostra) is found at the Real Estate Agency on the map. The third, the OOS (Order of Socrates), is found at City Hall, to the right of the Research option, in the Mayor's Office. Hope all that helps!! ;-)
