Does wearing smart equipment increase the chances of determining whether hair is curly or straight, whether a footprint came from a heavy person or a slim one, etc.?

Ahem, yes....sort of. It does, IF you have the skills to back the equipment up in the first place. No advanced thread analysis, no chance in the world of determining male or female threads, no matter how much smart stuff you're wearing. (Just a small caveat. ;-)
