It's beyond that time, isn't it? I kinda think so.

The Premise: Take an existing nursery rhyme, and make it Sleuthy.

The Rules:

* Each person can put in as many entries as they like, but each person can only do one entry per nursery rhyme - no doing "Little Boy Blue" twice.

* PLEASE use the title of the original nursery rhyme, even if it is not mentioned in your new "Sleuthery Rhyme". Hehe...I coined a phrase!

* And, remember: spell check is your friend!

The Example:

Mistress Mary, Quite Contrary (a.k.a. Mary, Mary, etc.)

Mistress Mary, quite contrary,
Why did you kill your bro?
Not for his money, as you think -
He missed two birthdays in a row!

The Prizes:

First Prize - 100,000 Sleuth dollars if you are subbed, OR
1 month sub and 50,000 Sleuth dollars if you are not subbed

Second Prize - 50,000 Sleuth dollars if you are subbed, OR
1 month sub and 25,000 Sleuth dollars if you are not subbed

Third Prize - 25,000 Sleuth dollars if you are subbed, OR
1 month sub and 10,000 Sleuth dollars if you are not subbed

The Time Period: Contest starts... well, now. That's right, as soon as you read this post, you can start figuring out ways to give your toddlers nightmares. :-D Entries must be posted by 11:59PM SERVER TIME, May 31, 2008. Any entries posted after the deadline will be enjoyed by all, but not considered part of the contest. Winners will be posted after the judges have a chance to judge, and when I have a chance to post.

Over the River and through the Woods- Sleuth version

Over the river and through the woods,
To find the villain that had fled.
He went and hid quick,
Behind a big rick
Then he heaved a great big sigh,
for he thought he thought had gotten away
for detectives are so sly
that we caught him!
We were so skim!
That villain was so stupid!

Over the river and through the woods,
Back we went to Sleuthville
turning him into jail,
getting cash through mail.
We completed that hard case
by going over the river and through the woods
very hard work that was done.
Hurrah for rewards!
This will go down in the records!
And all by going over the river and through the woods!

no more takers?

Old Mother Hubbard
Went to the cupboard
To fetch out her holster and gun
But when she got there
The Cupboard was bare...
And she just kinda laughed, as she realised she was already wearing them, and wrote it off to old age and a long day chasing down bad guys. 'I mean c'mon, I'm eighty for Pete's sake', she says to herself. 'I should be sitting down with a nice cup of tea and my knitting. I should have a dog!! But no, I'm self-employed and have to contribute to my own supeannuation scheme. Hmph.'

Hush-a-bye, Shady,
in the tree top.
When the wind blows,
the cradle will rock.
When the bough breaks,
the cradle will fall,
And down will come Shady,
cradle and all.

There's still a short amount of time left - I *think* - before the contest closes, but I wanted to post while I still have my internet connection. It has been very fickle for the past four or five days, cutting out at the worst times and often for hours at a stretch. Thank goodness for repairmen and Monday... in the meantime, I may not be posting the winners until after they fix the issue.

Thank you to everyone who entered. You've all done some wonderful writing and this will be, as usual, not an easy judging.

To VS: I never announce judges beforehand, it is always done when the winners are announced. Also, as noted in the initial post... Entries must be posted by 11:59PM SERVER TIME, May 31, 2008. Sorry I didn't answer sooner (please see above griping about DSL disconnections).

2nd Place - Topkebab, with "I Saw A Ship a-Sailing"

3rd Place - Lilangel, with "The Victim That Jack Killed"

Also, I'd like to take a moment to thank my co-judges, Ctown and Secret Squirrel.

Another thank you to Ctown, for the Sleuthery Rhyme idea (although he didn't call it that), and for the example used in the original post.

And a big AAARRRGGH!!!! to Secret Squirrel for making me snarf. Again. Dangit.

No one could be more surprised than me. Thank you, I don't: know what else to say. I really didn't think I had a chance.

To the judges: may all your cows give milk and your bees give honey and your dogs never pee on your carpet.
:)
