Had a bit of an 'oops' come up. Over the last 2 weeks, I"ve been dealing with a rather excruciating migraine. Standard meds have done little to help. After several trips to the E.R., I suffered a fall and blow to my head, and briefly passed out. After extensive tests, MRIs and CAT scans, the doctors found a small thrombosis, or blood clot, in my brain.

I've had a stroke.

I was released from the hospital yesterday, and am now recovering at home. The doctors are treating the stroke aggressively, and working very hard to prevent a repeat occurrence. I have a great medical team, and my family has been wonderful through all of this.

I greatly appreciate all of your encouragement and support. It's going to take time for me to get back on my feet, and your interest and caring will be invaluable to me. I thank you for that!!

Hope all of you are doing well. Again, thank you. ;-)

funny... when I want to focus I put a saucepan on my head and bang it with a metal spoon. Each to their own I suppose :s

Thinking of you breit. Keep plugging away :)

I swear by itching powder - COMPLETELY takes my mind off my headache.

Glad to hear things are slowly getting better!

SS... unfortunately, I don't think banging a saucepan with a metal spoon will help Breit's migraine issue... as loud noises tend to make it worse...

On the other hand... loud noises give me a headache to begin with, and I'm hard of hearing... :s

Glad to hear things are doing better for you, Breit. I sure do hope that it'll go away for good (well, the migraine for sure anyway).

Thank you all!! ;-D

My sister's been having me do some crossword puzzles, word searches, and hidden object games. We've been having a good time doing them together, and they've seemed to help me a bit. Her next goal's to start me on a jigsaw puzzle or two. ;-)

LOL. I think I'll leave the pots and the itching powder to you guys. They sound like fascinating remedies though. I have a feeling the cat would like to join you on the pots and pans, Squirrel.

I have a bit of good news. I'm bout to head off to bed, and I've just had my third day of no painkillers. YYYAAYYYY!!!!!!! I'm hoping to make it through the night without needing any now. ;-D

Thank you ALL for your posts. I've been a bit short on time and energy the past couple days to respond back to all of you individually, but I'll get there. I really do appreciate your support. They make a bad spot in my day a lot lighter. Thank you!! ;-D

Breit--I'm not around here much but just wanted to say that you're in my thoughts. I have some experience with life-changing medical conditions and know how hard it can be to manage--I'm so glad that you're doing so well and have such great medical and personal support. Godspeed.

Ditto what Ara said, Breit. I haven't been around much lately, and I was so sad to about your medical (and insurance!) struggles. It's very good to hear that things are slowly getting better. Take care.

It's been a couple weeks since I've written on here. Sorry bout that. Had a couple of things come up.

First off, the good news:

Finally got the insurance debacle figured out. YYAAYYY!!! ;-D So now the MRI my doc wanted done is scheduled for my birthday (Happy Birthday to me ;-), and the physical therapy starts the day after (another glorious present; oh boy!! ;-).

I'm back in my house, and no longer staying with my parents. My sister's staying with me for a bit, so I'm not totally alone. Missy's ecstatic to have me back, but she's rightroyally ticked off to have two roommate kitties to deal with--Schwarz, an eleven year old black shorthair that she's lived with before and gets along with fairly well, and Chou, a three year old black shorthair whippersnapper of a firecracker that drives her nuts every chance she gets. All in all, things are hoppin' 'round here. ;-)

I started practicing driving with my sister's help the last week. So far, I'm doing great according to her. Haven't built up the courage to go anywhere on my own yet, but she tells me it'll come.

Also have been doing a lot of logic work, word puzzles, and general brain stretching, and it seems to be helping. I've been having less problems with losing my balance and falling in the last couple of weeks and a lot less problems with headaches. Dunno if that's because of the puzzle stuff, but I figure it's not hurting. ;-)

Went to my doctor yesterday. She's very happy with my progress. She's put me on a 'maintenance' schedule, and I go back to see her in 3 months.
;-D

Now the not so good news:
(And the reason why I haven't been around much the last couple weeks)--I got a cold a couple weeks ago that turned into bronchitis. Went to my internist, and he put me on antibiotics and prescription cough medicine, and sent me to bed rest for a week and basic rest for two more after that. It seems to have worked, cause I'm doing much better now, but I am sorry I haven't been around to be here.
