I much prefer Noir to the extent that I don't play SoM. They're different games in many respects and that's a good thing, I just don't really like SoM. I like Noir as I find there's always something to aim for and yes it's a challenge without being overly complicated.

Well, as I have tested and played SoM for a bit, I must say, since it went live, I've leaned more toward Noir. I haven't any idea why. I hear it's more challenging as the levels increase there. I find it challenging enough here to try and do cases by paper and pen. I still find it challenging to do twelve cases. I'm not about to try and do an additional six or thirty. I like it here. It's gotten eerily quiet here too, much like the Noir era during the nights. ;-)

I prefer noir. I played SoM like a maniac for a while but I got pretty bored quickly (sorry but it's true)!!!! With noir, I'm addicted. I can't get through a couple of days without having strange cravings to play ; P.

noir all the way :)

im glad that im not the only one who got bored with SoM. it was great for a while but then i got the pattern down, and thus it became less of a challenge. noir has me hooked and its not even fair!

I prefer Noir as well. I still dabble in SOM a bit but prefer it here. Of course I have 3 detectives here so it's a bit of a challenge to get throguh 36 cases daily

i just wanted to post some of the more compelling arguments for SoM that i got from their message board...i found them interesting and i want to debate damn it!

tuppence tommy says:
I think that when we get the scripted mysteries and treasure hunts going over here in Shades even the Noir devotees will fall in love with Shades. . .

I was on Noir as well (still technically am) and I felt so out of things that I never bothered to sub. Everyone was so much further ahead, I was so far behind, and there was so little of the game shown to those who are unsubbed that I never felt compelled to. I guess I like that everything is so new over here, so visual, so interactive-like, etc.. . .There also seemed to be more helpful folks over here who don't mind letting you know what to do to improve your game and what you're doing wrong. . .

I know, I know. . .I do also miss the scripted mysteries you guys, but they're coming. . .and I never joined an agency over in Noir. I'm having that experience now that I'm in Shades and loving it. . .Also looking forward to the hunts in here and already enjoying the new faction "Special Missions" in Shades. . .I think that the further that you get in Shades, the harder that it gets and that it is highly competitive with Noir, if not harder . . .I don't think that Ben and Co. would have set out to make an improvement on Noir and not make it as competitive or enjoyable as the original. . .

simone dubois says:
I found Noir first and was eagerly anticipating the release of Shades as once you develop your detective to a certain level at Noir there's not much left to explore - unless you're into treasure hunting, I guess, which is ongoing.

In reference to tuppence tommy, if he never subbed here, I would think it's hard to criticize something you have never tried. I will do so on SOM because I haven't experienced being subbed over there. As far as helpful people, again I can't speak for SOM, but there are plenty of helpful people around here. I've answered many questions for new players, all they need to do is ask.

Simone:
there is the USS Sleuthatania that is coming out very soon, wehn I first joined this game there was not much to do at all, no Villain Hunts, no apartments, so the game has evolved and it looks to me like Ben is doing what he can to keep the game fresh.

Like I posted with ctown, I find it a challenge to get through 3 detectives a day here, so I'm not about to sub on SOM and have to worry about another 30 cases. I'm not gonna say one is better than the other, just that I prefer it here. I'm quite happy here and have no reason to start another game.

Well, I tried both of them, and I have to say that Noir has such a fantastic atmosphere what cannot be beated by flash, point&clicks (and simple patters - SoM gets boring really quickly, I hoped more from it) etc.

So in my opinion: Noir rulez!

As with Ctown and Brady, I haven't subbed over in Shades either. Unlike ctown, I have only one subscribed detective. I can barely make it through 12 Noir cases a day plus favors, when I actually don't try to do them all in the middle of the night where I have most of my focus. I can't be expected to do 30 cases in Shades when I can barely do 6 there as an unsub. I can only say this much, I don't have the concentration it takes to do Shades. I don't even have that for Noir, I just sort of go on autopilot on Noir and cannot do that in Shades. I might make it through a case or two on Shades on days that I feel I have concentration. Other than that, I can barely focus on one thing, I'm constantly doing at least 2 things, usually 3 at once, and at most 6... just to keep my mind occupied and keep me from getting to boredom level.

As an unsub on both Noir and SoM, I can honestly say that I like Noir better. In fact, when deciding on what game to play tonight, I went straight to Noir. Didn't even think of SoM. That is...until I got to the boards.

I'm not saying that I don't like SoM...I just have to be in the mood to play it. But most of the time, I would rather play Noir.
