Which faction?

Perhaps this is a question best answered by the directors of agencies, perhaps not. Which faction would be best to "get in good" with for the game? Does your character dictate with which faction you CAN raise your status? (ie. smart=Socrates charming=DAB tough La Cosa Nostra)

I realize that it would be impossible to to raise ones status dramatically for more than one faction. From reading a few bios it appears the most common seems to be the DAB. Is this because the computer automatically favors this faction or is this by choice? Which faction do the agencies need?

I had seen a similar question posted a few days ago, but the answers seemed to lean more toward HOW to raise ones status. I am really looking to make an informed decision on which faction to choose, if I have that choice at all.

Thank you all for your help.

You have an easier time choosing if you are part of an agency.

In an agency, ironically, it probably matters less which faction you are "in" with.

Each faction teaches a different skill. Picking pockets, the DAB skill, gets money from your client when he/she is guilty. Hypnosis, the OOS skill, sometimes gets the suspects to add to the suspect list faster. And safe-cracking, the LCN skill, is only useful in an agency as part of treasure hunts with keys.

Each faction also sells different goods. If you want to buy a particular accessory, then you want to get in good with that faction. However, in an agency, usually someone there can buy the accessory for you and put it in the locker for you to use.

The other reason to get in good is to be open a hunt, which is also obly useful in an agency. But agencies like to have a mix of political affiliations for this reason - to be able to open all hunts.

Lastly, there is a special perk for the top "in" person in each faction, which I believe is the same for each of the three. This has so far been kept a mystery, as far as I know, so I ain't talkin'.

Also, it is possible to get in good with a faction and then switch to another. It takes some effort, but if you play long enough you can do it and get all three faction skills if you want them.

I am sure it is the same for each of the three. Bryola (from my agency) became Philosopher Marshall and I became Consigliere and we both had the same special option. If anyone wants to know what standing they have to beat to get this option, go to the high scores board, look at the bottom and click on one of the detective's names. (One for each of the three factions). Like Moonshh, I won't tell what this special feature is. You have to find out for yourself.

guys...ben already announced what the benefit was when the feature started - can't remember which board, but its not a secret. Anyone interested, should just go back through the message boards - the added benefit only appeared within the last month, I think.

Also, an addition to the very good info already offered, I'd add - if you are not in an agency DON'T get safecracking (La Cosa Nostra's special skill) since it only works on treasure hunts. So LCN would probably be my last choice for affiliation if I were not in an agency.
