I started a FM in New York named An Unconscious Murder. One of the suspects mentioned a new name. This name however wouldn't show up on my suspect list. All the other characters in the game (suspects, townies) offer no further clues. No one clammed up on me.
Is this a bug or just part of the set-up?

I have actually tried that mystery twice...using the walkthrough both times and there is a certain point where i can not get an answer from Laura (I think) which produces the next suspect. I tried it a 2nd time b/c I thought maybe my gear wasn't adequate the first time as I was newer in the game but the same thing happened.
As my detective is charming in the interview phase, I decided to wait until I've acquired my tough skills later in the game and try again. Not sure if this will work but I hate not being able to finish something. So BadAss, good question because I've wondered the same thing.

Knowing what some of the stats are set to in ths SM since I edited it, I'd say in some instances it's 'pot luck' as to whether you get that extra question or not for some suspects. I failed it once during testing, and I knew who the killer was and how to get there. There are a lot of very clammy suspects in this case. It's a must have to have the maximum stats you can and a bit of luck to boot.

I got stuck in this one too and took your advice, checking the sleuth tips site. However, I still cannot research the case. Do I have to have the research skill?

I couldn't do it when I first started playing, but once I got the research skill it was easy, so I believe you might have to have the research skill in order to get that research item.
