Hi all,

We did another round of old data cleanup tonight, which should help the speed more. This has been a periodic problem for Sleuth Noir for a long time. The root of the problem is that Sleuth needs keeps a lot of old data around, messages, mystery records, traffic data, etc. All that old data gets in the way of more recent stuff and makes every page load take a bit longer. We can selectively prune a lot of that data, but it's sometimes tough to know what needs to be saved and what can be safely erased.

So, beating back the monster of server lag is sort of a never-ending battle, at least the way Sleuth Noir is currently architected. Shades of Mystery was built from the ground up to avoid a lot of those problems, so I'm hoping it will not be as noticeable there. We'll make another effort at a permanent solution for Sleuth Noir after the launch of Shades of Mystery

In the meantime, I hope this most recent cleanup has helped the situation. I'll be keeping an eye on performance data to see if more work needs to be done.

Have you realized it?
The game speed are completely different after the Shades of Mystery open beta testing started.....
- because "everyone" are away playing with SoM... ;-)
And we who are left can have much more fun than we have had in a long period. A great achievement!
This seem to be the best cure we have had on the game speed!

I am really sorry Ben, that I was accusing you for forgetting Noir, while what you have done are taking away most of the users, giving us a great Noir with decent game speed. Thank you very much! I am so sorry, I did not foresee this consequence...

Finally I do agree with you: Shades of Mystery are a great game!
- even for me who love Noir.

Roamie: Now you don't have to quit because of game speed frustration anymore. We have been given a completely different Noir where it's fun playing cases again! Try it! :-)
