I've had a couple of friends play through the scripted mystery that I submitted and ask me how to sign up for the site because they want to play more.

Now it's all fine and good if I'm with them at that very moment, and can log in under my name, go to London, and open the mystery from there, but what if I'm not the the area and I'm telling someone about it?

Would it be possible to make certain mysteries available for download as an executable in order to interest people in signing up for a subscription? I know it would make it easier for me to recruit people if I had something to give them, rather than making them sign up on the site and subscribe to play through the mystery.

Well, besides offering more enjoyment, Featured Mysteries act as another reason for people to subscribe to the game. From a business stand-point, it doesn't make much sense at all to give away something for free that people are paying for right now. It's not fair to those that pay, and it'd definitely be an unwise business move.

I may be wrong but isn't there one of the scripted mysteries in New York that is available for unsubbed players?

There is CTown. I agree, there's little sense in altering the rules to act as a tease for people to sub. I think it'd rather take away the point of subbing.

If they're good freinds Heimlich you could let them on as you to play it while you stand and stare over their shoulder to make sure they dont get up to no good!

If a featured mystery was meant for teasing the unsubbed players, it need to be a New York mystery, as unsubbed are not allowed to travel.
But, I do agree with Jojo and Stooby.
May be if the mystery just let you ask the first 10 or 20 questions or something (including the obvious as if they know any other suspects, got alibi, verifying of alibi...). Perhaps that would make it even worse to stay away from subscribing than if you are not allowed to see anything?

Abraham, the Featured Mystery that is available for unsubbed players IS in New York. I think it is called "The Unread Will" .

The free FM for New York is Murder in Manhattan by Buggles2000. I think it took over from Unread Will. But Unread Will is now subscriber only well from what I've checked out via an unsubbed alt. I have.

The only think I would add is that most of the FM's would require you to have some decent gear, and some reasonable skills to complete them. Opening up FM's to players that can't complete them, doesn't necessarily 'improve' the quality of play, or the games pulling power.

I am sure Abraham knew that the Featured Mystery that are availiable for unsubbed players are in New York. I think that what he meant to say was that if other featured mysteries were to be availiable to the unsubbed players, it could not be in London (or you needed to implement some kind of mystery teleportation).
Also, the main point for the posting was the idea of allowing just a minor peek into the (other) mystery(ies) rather than giving them full access.
Please forgive Abraham for not mastering the language to the degree that everyone reading what he have written understands the thought behind.
He is a foreigner, have always been, and will always be.

I think, to add one more thought into the pot, that using Scripted Mysteries as a lure to get people to play Sleuth would be missleading. They are not the main focus of the game - the random cases are and these are fully available to unsubbed players.

Abraham's language skills look just fine to me, Huglover. He writes quite well in English, native-speaker or not. I think he deserves some respect for that, don't you?

As for the issue in this post, I do see a certain validity to Heimlich's request to make the featured mystery that's currently available to unsubbed players (whichever one it is at whatever time; yes, it has changed from time to time) available for possible download as an enticement for potential subscribers. Since it's already available to basically anyone who wants to play it here, it wouldn't be that big a difference to make it available offline (in my opinion, anyway). Abraham's point of making it a limited download may also be a good idea. Ultimately, this is something that would have to be decided by Admin, and evaluated for how much it would add to or detract from their business. The 'mystery teleportation' idea of Huglover's, though, isn't likely to happen, both from a programming and a realism angle. Sorry, Huglover.
