I know during a case, another person will die before you solve the case. Can your client be killed, or just everyone else.
and also
when you do favors, and you get a contact, can you get contacts with people that help with clues, or just the people who don't help with clues?

You can get either the evidence contact or the non-evidence contact first. For example, I got Tailor first and then Butcher was my second contact.
The approximate number of favors may be helpful in giving you a general idea but is not always accurate.
Clients can die.
One suspect does not always die, as far as I know.
