How to find motive

Hi -

I've been playing for a few days now and I'm up to hard cases....(don't laugh) and on the last few cases I've been stuck. I can figure out who the killer is, but I can't accuse them without a motive. I often have people clam up on me after the 1st question, and I'm not always able to persuade them to be helpful.

Is there a trick to finding out the motive, when the client's the killer? I really feel as if I'm missing something.

Thanks!

Always ask your suspects for motives before you start asking for alibi. Once you have a full list, you'll have a motive for everyone, even your client.

In higher level cases it is possible that you'll have to dig a littel further to get that motive for the client than just a full list, but not a regular problem.

First off, you're doing very well, so don't worry 'bout people laughing at you. Everyone here has been in your shoes. ;-)

Secondly, if you're having trouble getting people to talk, you may need to drop down to Intermediate cases for a bit, until you've picked up a bit more experience and skills. There's nothing wrong with going down a level--it'll mean you'll have an easier time with suspects, and are less likely to get a False Accusation because you've guessed when you shouldn't have. When you get a bit stronger, you can go back to higher-level cases.

And like cfm said, looking for people's motives first before you do alibis helps you get your list quicker, and means you don't have to quit cases because your killer has no motive.

Good luck, Pheebers, and Happy Hunting!! ;-)
