I've put up a new screenshot and a gameply video on the Shades of Mystery page.

We've been doing quite a bit of work on the searchable locations (crime scenes and suspects homes) and I thought you'd like a look at what we've got going. Also, I think the video gives you a better idea of actual gameplay than anything I've posted up to this point.

The Shades of Mystery page can be accessed from City Hall.

Some notes about the video:

1) The actual game does not take nearly as long to load as that video. I'd actually recommend letting the whole video load before watching it, otherwise it will look choppy unless you have a very fast connection.

2) This video has been compressed and shrunken a bit to conserver filesize. The game is about 20% bigger than the video (the screenshots are actual size).

3) Right now, we only have furniture sets in for bedrooms. That's why there is a bed in the sitting room rather than something more appropriate.

Enjoy.

Oops... bad typing from me as normal! Sorry about that. Also sorry, things like "dull and borring" sound critical, not supposed to be, just trying to make some suggestions and express personal opinions, sorry!

We'll try both with the pointer and without in beta and see which one works better. I think it may be too frustrating without the cursor hints, but maybe I'll be proven wrong.

The plan is to have more complex crime scenes on harder mysteries. For instance, you may have containers that are more involved to open than just clicking on a dresser drawer.

If I'm a level 70 Rogue will I be able to open dresser drawers? Oh wait.. never mind, wrong game. *vanishes*

Great Ben, like the fact feedback from even none Beta testers is being used... this could be a cracker of a game if everyones views are listened to... good work!

First things first, Greyling finally logged on!

I enjoyed the way the game has turned out, I think that the new level of complexity will really be what sleuth is. I think that Stooby's idea about getting 'Footprint/ hand print etc. detection' would be a good idea compared to the cursor becoming a hand whenever you find something. Though to be fair you do not get a piece of evidence every time you search for evidence so it gets rid of frustration.

Lastly, I love the way you can take foot prints!

yoyo, I know!

Like, if I can take away a footprint, why wouldn't the killer have done that in the first place?

These game designers are crazy.

Stooby,

We're more than happy to listen to everybody's input. Doesn't necessarily mean we'll follow the advice in the end. I do think it will be interesting to try the pointer both ways. Some of the evidence pieces are pretty small, and I could see it becoming pretty frustrating trying to find them without a helpful cursor.

lol if this new game is colour and the crime scene is colour and the evidence is colour, I suggest a mouse over for little old colour blind me! Otherwise I'm gonna be smackin' on that mouse like a woodpecker with ADD.
