What purpose do "Themes" serve?

After I finished a case, I went to my detective screen and noticed that my theme was set to "Shady Character" (I believe it was). I noticed I had the ability to change my theme to "Classic Sleuth". What exactly are these "themes" and what purpose/difference do they serve?

Thank you,

The themes serve no real 'purpose' as such. They change the appearance of your browser background whilst playing. Sometimes that's hardly noticeable, but they do.

They are there to be collected. It can be quite a challenge to find and collect them all. And that's about it really.

Ah, that makes sense. I thought about it briefly earlier, but wasn't quite sure since it looked like an in-game feature. Thank you.
