Suspects spontaneously appearing

I posted this here instead of the newb board because I've actually been playing longer than my profile suggests (this is my second character, my first lost his license :( ).

Twice in the past couple of days I've seen something happen that I'd never seen previously - suspects spontaneously appearing in the sidebar. In other words, I didn't get the suspect's name from another suspect or a townsperson and they weren't one of the original names the client gave me, but they showed up in the sidebar anyway.

I know I didn't get the name from another suspect, because each time no motive was given. I know I didn't get the name from a townsperson via the "Have you heard anything about the case" question, because when you get info from that it shows up on your "Case" tab, and I checked and nothing was there either time.

So is this a bug or am I just noticing this for the first time somehow?

Was there a plot twist involving the police perhance?

The picture would be the same as for the busybody who tells you about the victims niece. So if you click through this too quickly you might miss the fact that they are talking about a new suspect and be amazed.

The arrested person will not have a motive unless you got to know of them before the twist. (Obviously if you get the motive afterwards they still get their motive then)

Both Jas' and Dave's scenarios are possibilities, Mick. The closed door will answer EITHER the motive or alibi question for you for that suspect. Unfortunately, you don't have a choice which one it will be. For the police twist, the named person in the twist is always someone who gets dragged off by the police. On the good side for you, if that name hasn't been included in your suspect list up until that point, it will now be added to it. The bad news--that person will NOT have a motive attached to them, meaning you'll need to go track one down for them.

Offhand, those are the only two scenarios I can think of to explain your situation. Try reading your twists and the closed door stuff a bit more closely, and see if these two help any. ;-)

Yeah, Dave your explanation sounds like it makes the most sense. I'd never heard of that before. Like you and Breitkat said, I guess I just breeze through the plot twists. This is the first time I've heard of this. I always assumed that - except for Larry the Toe and the faction +'s and -'s - that the plot twists were purely for flavor.

The weird thing is that I really don't remember that ever happening before. I guess maybe it did happen to me before, but I managed to get the motive before I even noticed the extra suspect.

Dave has got it right. U do get names from the plot twists. Lock picking gives U either the alibi of the person U have picked lock or the names of people that person suspects alongwith their motives (which is the same as asking a person for the names of people they suspect). In Lockpicking, once a new suspect is named, it automatically comes with the motives of the new suspect.
