Could someone tell me what combinations of witness, fake/no alibi and evidence is needed to be sure of a correct accusation? Ie. If I have a fake/no alibi and physical evidence, can I be sure or do I need a witness also? Does this change as you get to more difficult cases? Also, I didn't see this in the 'Help' section, but maybe it should be there.

Megan3, in order to be 100% sure that you will have a correct accusation you need to have a fake/no alibi, one piece of physical evidence, and two pieces of witness evidence. But you can safely accuse someone if you only have the two pieces of witness evidence and a fake/no alibi.

I think you need less, Declan. What works for me is: Two pieces of witness evidence.

or

A fake or STATED non-alibi and physical evidence.

I think Ben also says that physical evidence plus one witness accusation works, but I'm not sure about that one.

Thanks Declan and Moonshh. It's helpful. I've had a false accusation from physical evidence plus one witness when the alibi is ambiguous, so if we don't know about the alibi, I guess we always need 2 witnesses to be sure.

Good to have that confirmed!

Is it possible to accuse a suspect even without any evidence(just a fake alibi and a motive, but no physical/witness evidence)?

I've only been playing for a couple of weeks, but as far as I know, depending on the level you'll have a minimum of 3 suspects with a fake alibi and a motive. The number goes up with the difficulty of the cases.

You need to have either physical evidence or witness evidence to be sure - as the other people who posted before said. Unless, of course, you have absolutely eliminated all other possible suspects (you are certain that there is no physical evidence linked with any other suspect who doesn't have a real alibi). That probably sounds really confusing, but I hope it's a little helpful.

Moonshh, I agree that only having two pieces of witness evidence is enough to make a correct accusation, but as for just having a fake/no alibi and one piece of physical evidence...I don't believe that that is always enough. I had a case once where I falsely accused someone who had a fake alibi, one piece of physical evidence, and one piece of witness evidence. All I'm really trying to say is that in order to be 100% sure about your accusation, you have to have a fake/no alibi and two pieces of witness evidence. The physical evidence (in my opinion) just helps give you an idea of who the killer is, thus aiding you in asking witnesses about the right suspect.

Declan, wow! I have never experienced that! I'm going to continue on the assumption that physical evidence and a fake or stated non-alibi are enough. It's worked very well for me so far. And I'm willing to take the risk to do less busy work in my solving. And the risk IS a big one, as the price for Shady gets higher...life on the edge!

Rheia, it's /posssible/ to accuse someone with only a fake alibi and a motive, but I don't recommend it. Unless you are talking about a process of elimination scenario, as Megan mentions.

What you need to make an accusation (from the tutorial):

1) Motive: (eg) He wanted to steal a family heirloom.
2) Alibi: The alibi he gave turned out to be false.
3) Evidence: (eg) He had tried to kill the victim once before.

In Sleuth, the combination of those three things is enough to ensure guilt. At this point, you might want to think for a minute and make sure you didn't make any mistakes.
