I ran a database cleanup job around midnight, Thursday morning 8/23. Hopefully this will speed things up a bit, as I know the server has been lagging a bit.

The last time I ran a similar script, some stored case files became corrupted and were unplayable. I think I've ironed out those wrinkles, but let me know if you spot something like that, or something else seems wrong today.

Thanks.

Arabella, it is a myth that the cookies on your computer contain that info. I had a computer crash about 4 days ago and had to completely re-do my system. I lost 0 files and no information. Our family accounts are all exactly as they were left and everyone plays from my computer. That stuff is stored on the server. The cookies seem to store is the progress in a cases currently being worked on, plus other general stuff about the game itself.

It would be courting disaster to allow such info to be stored in the cookies on the computer of users who are not always competent to be trusted with such things. That's not meant as an insult. The fact is that most people haven't any idea how to empty their cache periodically to speed-up their own access, especially without deleting the important cookies. They don't need to know how their computer works, after all. It would be too easy for them to accidently delete something.

What would you do for those whose system crashes and they have to reformat their hard-drive and do a complete new install of Windows (and everything else)? Your cookies are then gone. Forever.

I don't think it has anything to do with computers that are signed into either. while at home this morning, I signed on from 2 desktops and a laptop, 0 cases, at work I just signed in on my work machine and still 0 cases. Not sure how Rans machine is set up, but the fact that I have more than one workstation affected tells me that it is a more widespread problem.

To further clarify some other concerns, Ben has always done the right thing and extending subs by a day when problems like this arise, I see no reason why he wouldn't do the same thing this time around.

I love all those exclamation marks!!!! That's how I know a thread is well received.

Sorry for the late reply. I was up until 3am last night working on this cleanup process and thought everything was ok when I went to sleep. (ok, before I got up to change diapers three times).

Everybody's daily cases should now be available, and little jobs should be there for people who couldn't access them.

In accordance with our subscription policy, all current subscribers have had a full day added to their subscriptions.

Let me know if you spot any problems with case files (either agency or apartment).

New one, Ben. I was trying to start a new case in a new villain hunt that I just got. :P This page came up which read:

Spyce exception
File: /var/www/html/case/new.spy
Message:

TypeError: unsubscriptable object

Stack: /var/www/html/common/py/intro.py:68, in load_random:

self.detectiveid = int(result[0])

new.spy:38, in (main):

intro.load_random(db,detective.city,(mystery_difficulty==0))

I got a similar message around 3 am my time, that was when Ben was working on the clean up... and seeing as how other members of my agency as well as myself have been able to store files and solve cases before I got back on and while I'm still on... I've been here for about an hour or so, but when Ben first got the site up again, I saw I had 12 cases, I didn't try doing them or checking everything else considering I was tired and went to bed sometime after 4 am my time.

and as to further notice, It would be nice considering I don't always read boards anymore and I was online when the clean up started. I don't know what or if I had lost anything, obviously I'm not that concerned. I just saw that it was planned and went to do something else on my computer.

Hold on to any corrupted case files. I'm should be able to fix those. It may take a few hours though.
