Does anyone know why the Villain Hunt cases are counting against my political standings when I quit a case? The Political Factions screen never even comes up, but I often find that the cases have faction associations. I just do not understand why quitting one of these cases counts against me. Is it supposed to be that way?

Yes, even though you don't see the faction "twist" during an AV hunt (they are suppressed), if you check your case screen before solving/quitting you will sometimes see that there are faction standings involved.
