I know it's lame to ask for help, but I've tried Dead Before Dessert about 6 times now. I have sufficient skill to ask every character/shop an unlimited number of questions, but no matter what I do, I can't get motives for three of the characters. I've asked every single question available. Do I need a special skill? Is this bugged? Are there any characters whose motives you never determine?

Can't quiet remember DBD but have you got research? Some SM's require that.

Failing that PM the author or check the Sleuth News website for any walk throughs.

I don't - I was told basic PE skills like hair analysis were more imminently needed. It's only a "hard" mystery, though, so I'm surprised I'd need research. Do you happen to know the Sleuth News URL?

Don't you get to use research even if you don't have it when doing scripted mysteries?

When you write an SM you can choose to set it so you need research as a skill or not. Like I say I cant remember about this one.

And if you are still stuck PM AmazingAmanda253 the author. She's great and will no doubt be willing to help out.

There's no guide for this SM at Sleuth news yet but the link is:

Most Scripted Mysteries (at least up until now) have not required you to HAVE the research skill in order to be able to USE it (rather big change from the random mysteries ;-). You might try going to the Hall of Records and seeing if there's anything there, then checking all your suspects and townies again. If you don't have people clammed on you, then you're not going to the right person at the right time somewhere down the line, because there should be something for you to find at either a suspect or a townsperson. Also, make sure you read the blurbs at the townies carefully. Their usual hint and favor things may have changed on you.

Good luck!!

Yeah the 'default' setting for Research in SM's is 'skill not needed'. I haven't seen many people change that, as it's used as a natural plot kicker-onerer. I have had a peek at AA's Mystery's inards, and it would probably we worth checking Research.
