there should be an ocean liner that one could get on ( a substitute for a city ) and one could solve a mystery around the ship ( the grand salon, the kitchen, the boiler room, the cabin, etc. ) and a computer game of 21 could be in the grand salon. one could stay on the ship to solve mysteries but the ship would not have any treasure hunts and one could not buy an apartment on the ship. from time to time the ship would dock in shainghai, and everybody would be kicked off the ship and find themselves in shaingahi..the ship would stay in shainghai for say 3 days and fill up again ( perhaps a limit of 20 players only ) and then sail off so to speak to arrive in london two weeks later..then everybody would get kicked off and one could get back on to be the next 20...the deal is when the ship leaves port you do not know to which city it will travel next..you
take your chances and every two weeks it kicks you off...perhaps one could limit 20 players from always staying on the ship by either charging a higher and higher fee to get on if you kept getting on all the time to stay on the ship or perhaps the computer would just let the first 20 on or perhaps the computer would take the last 20 who just got off and not allow them to get back on in the next 3 days at all....it could be called "the sleuthetania"...

How about a second way to travel to the same destinations. As is, we spend $2000 -$4000 to get from city to city in an instant. My proposal is to pay half as much money for a 3 day trip. During those three days, your case count is unlimited. You can solve as many cases as you wish. There is no access to agency perks, no case files, no crime lab, no agency message boards. Perhaps no community message boards either (like Shangri La). You must do each of those cases on your own. This would give the person who wants to build up their detective a way to do so while traveling to another city. We would still need the instant travel at a higher cost for treasure hunting and for those who do not want to spend three days with no other site access. Add in special contacts for ship or train and I think there would be many people opting for a three days travel for unlimited case work.

Perhaps later there can be a third option. Travel at full price, and you can solve special mysteries, perhaps team oriented ones. Team people up like in the AVL, make them solve mysteries, and the first team to all complete the series, gets double their travel money as an reward.

I'm rather curious why Cairo and Shangri-La are being left out as potential departure/arrival cities. People have been asking for more options for both cities for a while now. How bout having Cairo as a potential destination of the Ship and Shangri-La a destination of the train? I would think that using these cities could lead to all sorts of interesting expansion stuff, and you wouldn't need to worry about opening up a new city or taking away from Shades of Mystery.

I'm also somewhat curious why both ship and train trips are only being allowed one destination. Yes, it would complicate the programming stuff. But I like the idea of a New York-Shanghai-Cairo ship and a London-Delhi-Shangri-La train. Or interchange them. Whichever. ;-)

I think they it depends on how you're talking. If you mean: board ship at New York, disembark at Shanghai, board (or reboard) at Shanghai, disembark at Cairo... well, that would be neat.

As long as you're not required to have access to Cairo to even board the ship in New York.

Seems to me that the reason Shangri La and Cairo aren't being used is that not every subscribed player has access to them.

This way a wider range of players get access to a game feature? You know, there's no 'I can't get good gear coz I don't do VH's kind of thing. Maybe? [Well it kind of makes sense in my head.]

I suppose you could have different tiers. Ships for those who can and those who can't but that sounds overly complicated. Depends whether the Ship/Train is considered a tier above Shangri La and Cairo for old timers or just 'something else' for 'everyone'. I prefer the second option personally.

lol and I like the sounds of the 'Ringold Express' Rosa. :)

I would like to see this a little less time consuming than the AVH. And a little less frustrating.
Maybe the hardest cases you would have to do would be IH...
Once you know the game it's not so much a challenge as much as luck.
And I don't play Sleuth to get all frustrated because I get the same clue repeated 7 times in a row.
I'd like to see this as something fun and doable for everyone.
So, if we end up having to do AIs or something crazy like that, it would take all the fun out of it for me.

I think it needs to be either as challenging as AI's or a mix. No point setting the whole thing easier as we'd all soon grow out of it.

The mix of difficulty would be more fair.

Also lets not make access to cheap, there should be a challenge for getting on board to.

However, unlike villian hunts, how about letting people have access to SM's? It would be a great new setting for mysterys, all those suspects crammed into a ship, no way off unless they want to swim with the fishes...

How about a mix of mystery levels? That way people who want constant challenge can have it, and people who want to be a little more laid back can have it.

Face it, not everyone is going to want the same thing, and that is fairly obvious. A lot of people seem to feel that this cruise ship and/or train is something that all subbed people have access to. And, face it, not all subbed people have access to AI's; also, not all who do have that access want to do AI's all the time.

Variety is the spice of life.

And I agree with Amanda. Some ship/train specific SMs would be awesome.

I think the point I was trying to make was that if it was going to happen (irregardless of case level mechanics) it should be considered as just a regular part of the game and not another top tier ie there's not a prerequisite of having had to go to Cairo/Shangri La in order to be able to participate.

lol and I like idea of some good ship SM's. Someone ask John Hale to pop on a pirate's hat and get scribbling.

Can I just say (12 daily cases+ favors)*20= No more passengers left on the ship/ train :P.
Maybe have a single person treasure hunt where the treasure is the villain but you don't do favors to get the clues you do regular cases, like an AV.
Basically a single city AV against other det's but with a time limit.
