there should be an ocean liner that one could get on ( a substitute for a city ) and one could solve a mystery around the ship ( the grand salon, the kitchen, the boiler room, the cabin, etc. ) and a computer game of 21 could be in the grand salon. one could stay on the ship to solve mysteries but the ship would not have any treasure hunts and one could not buy an apartment on the ship. from time to time the ship would dock in shainghai, and everybody would be kicked off the ship and find themselves in shaingahi..the ship would stay in shainghai for say 3 days and fill up again ( perhaps a limit of 20 players only ) and then sail off so to speak to arrive in london two weeks later..then everybody would get kicked off and one could get back on to be the next 20...the deal is when the ship leaves port you do not know to which city it will travel next..you
take your chances and every two weeks it kicks you off...perhaps one could limit 20 players from always staying on the ship by either charging a higher and higher fee to get on if you kept getting on all the time to stay on the ship or perhaps the computer would just let the first 20 on or perhaps the computer would take the last 20 who just got off and not allow them to get back on in the next 3 days at all....it could be called "the sleuthetania"...

There's another idea that could be used here... how about all your old skills go out the window and you have a brand new set only applicable to the ship... could lead the way to another use for skill points and another interest in Sleuth. The only ideas that springs to mind now is that the ships doctor could tell you how somone was killed and say it was poisoning then the ships cook could analyse food samples, or if shot did ships in those days do the clay pidgeon shooting? A gun expert could look at the bullet.

We'd then need new ship only skills to tie in with these.

Cool idea Hannah, you've got my seal of approval and about 192 327 cool points.

Nice ideas all around, especially Stooby's ideas of a specialized skill set for the ocean liner. Maybe even a different way to obtain the skills aside from skill points, so that everyone starts on the same level, sort of thing.

Best idea I've seen around here in a long time.

Great idea. How about equipment that only those on the ship can get? Like t-shirt that says The Sleuthetania? :)

You mean, Amanda, like one that says "Axis forces sunk the Sleuthetania and all I got was this Lousy T-Shirt"?

But seriously, folks. Hannah, I love your idea. Ara, THANK YOU for coming up with the idea of a different way to get the special skills for the ship. Yes, it would be a great way to use those extra skill points I hear people talk about, but it wouldn't be very fair to people who do not yet have extra points.

I keep tinking of things like Poirot set on cruises, lovely era related things. I've never been on a cruise and get dreadfuly sea sick but I think there's a marvelous chance here to set something in the 20's to 30's period with a hugley nostalgic feel. This would be a wonderful development. As I say my knowledge would be limited as I've always avoided all things naughtical but yes it could have it's own equipment, shorts and shirts, formal dinner wear etc for different events, it's own skills, time limited challenges etc. be nice to see everyone chipping in with ideas and then someone shouting out to Admin "Ahoy, great idea ahead".

Think about all the cool smarts stuff you can get with all those navigational equipment. And you could have lots of fancy charming clothing, but I have no idea what to do about tough clothing.
I have a fairly good understanding about crews and ships and stuff like that so I have some idea about areas on a ship and people who are on it.

I really like this idea. It would be relatively easy to do, and could be a lot of fun. Nice one, Hannah.

Hey great Ben's seal of approval!!! If you read this again Ben what happens now? Need a working group to come up with more ideas? Just keep an eye on this board? Or are you running with it now and looking to develop the idea?
