For heavens sake!! Write somewhere (in the FAQ for example) that the skill point gain is based on experience! This is HUGE, and it's not an obvious thing!

Had I known I wouldn't have been so desperate for cash now. Also I wouldn't have so crappy skills and equipment, and most importantly I wouldn't have accumulated two false accusations in my desperation to earn more cash and skill points.

Now I have about 1500 bucks. I need about 10k to get rid of my false accusations. Also the only piece of equipment I *ever* bought with this character is a snub nosed revolver for 3k. You can do the maths yourself. I'm devastated because I didn't know that skill points were xp generated..

:'(

Fortunately I'm no quitter and I will get back up. But I am severely pissed off that I got here in the first place.

Only if you wanna lose a couple limbs to a miniature Bengal tiger, bud. And that might make working cases a tad more difficult for you, so I wouldn't suggest it.

I'm not searching to be honest, Breitkat. The offers are dropping in. But I haven't decided yet. I'm the kind of person that you shouldn't put in front of a pizza menu. It'll take at least 45 minutes. Mmm. That touch you comment was aimed at Lady Dev, and still a joke sorta (can't figure out what I said that upset miss guided, that was bad language though).

The case solving is going.. somewhere. I'm struggling, but I've been working hard all yesterday and will do so today as well. I'm up at just above 4k or so now, so I'm considering if I should go to Delhi because it's cheaper there, or do it in NY, or don't bother and get another book instead, or maybe a Quattro Staggione..

And also, Squirrel.. I don't think there's anything wrong with the skill point system. Now that I know of it.. *grumbles* ;P

What was wrong was the abscense of information or at least easily aquired information on how it was built, and yes I agree that it's fun to figure out how the mysterious xp system works, but as I already said I figured it wrong, and got a false accusation. What was my alternative there? Quitting? Some mysteries are for solving. Others should be revealed to you upon asking. It's like when there's a really hard riddle on the milk carton, and the answer is printed upside down in the lower corner. Remove that answer and you'd see a wave of protests rolling across the country. You know why? Because people haven't gotten their values straight.

"Hay babies are dying in the third world and Ima yell at the fact that my shoelaces are too short."

"Why not just go buy a pair of new pair of laces?"

"TOO SHORT!"

Back to reading the newbie boards again :-) Never guess, always quit if you have to. Ask anyone even the top level players, some cases you just can't solve no matter how much you want to.

Fionn…dude, Dued. I mean *Dude*

Dooooooood!

First let me say that after your year or whatever hanging around here, I’m really glad you’ve decided to make your current character known on the boards. Your junk is funny, fo-sho, and I’m enjoying reading it. It’s been like a braces-wearing debutante’s sweet sixteen party, but with more vitriol and less gift-wrapped ponies and inane giggling. Okay?

Okay. Now checkity-check it. I say these nice warm fuzzy things because I don’t want you to get all Crankenstein’s Monster-ish about what I’m gonna say next. Which is this:

You figured it wrong. Big deal. Everyone makes mistakes. And no matter how much you whine about this thing you wanna call ‘the system’, David Duchovny will STILL not come a-knocking and get “oooh, Fionn, can I please please please sign your ‘The Truth Is Out There Poster?”.

Like seriously.

You: This sucks! Here’s a thing that after a year around here, I didn’t know about this game! This sucks! Change stuff!

Other people: If you had looked around a bit, you would have figured this out waaaaay long ago. And felt good. Real good.

You: I did look! I even used the super-simple search-o-matic finding tool you guys keep talking about! Woo hoo I totally used it! It didn’t help! So therefore that tool, by association, also sucks! Fix the F.A.Q, cuz, really, my thing that I couldn’t find anything out about after a year even though other people figure it out real quick is so super-important that it should go in the F.A.Q. before umpteen million other things that other people haven’t figured out that also aren’t plastered in neon sings that make your pockets tingle so you know they’re important. And by the way, anyone who can actually find this stuff has nothing better to do and deserves a sarcastic and vaguely insulting ‘blood hound’ comment.

Other people: Um. How easy do you want it? You type the thing you want to know about into the tell me stuff about what I want to know about magic box, and the first thing you see will tell you what you

...want to know.

You: Yeah but I didn’t know that I didn’t already know what I wanted to know. And I didn’t look that hard. I, in fact knew that I knew what I wanted to know and I knew that I knew what I knew was the right..knewledge. Or Knewing. Or Canoeing. Or Gnawing a ledge. Or whatever. Therefore I shouldn’t have ever considered the possibility that my idea was wrong. Look at me, I’m still right! Things other people figured out should be explained in the F.A.Q., because even though I said I did the search thingy, and even though I said I have been around for a bit, somehow that piece of info has escaped me. Which NOW strikes me as important, because I owe shady some chump change. So..Ima rant about it a little, up in hurr. I can’t possibly be bothered to look at the first thing that comes up in the first search I do. That’s for infantile losers. Like diapers at a slot machine in a Las Vegas daycare. Now let’s talk about milk. And milk boxes.

(Sidebar…Jeez, mate…most serious players wouldn’t DREAM about bitching about shady fees unless they were into him for a half mil or better. $1500? You should be able to make that in less than a day. )

So. I basically agree with you too. That WOULD be a helpful thing to put somewhere obvious. My question to you would be something along the lines of, ‘How many other things that other people have found fairly obvious do you think Admin-types should put into obvious places, just because someone would have found them helpful, last year?’

What other things that others don’t know that you don’t know you don’t know about should be included in that? And just how long are those laces, anyways???

You: TOO SHORT!

Instead of whining, just ask. Or spend like 8 minutes looking. Around here, a little effort makes shoelaces look like milky milky lactose-free velcro.

Just sayin’

Now you're just being me. ;P

I've stopped whining now. I did trip, sure. And yes, the "2 short"-comment included me. I realized already! "Man, why am I whining still? Are the laces really that short? Perhaps if I'd tugged them a bit harder.."

I still stand by what I said about it being hard to find information, because I *did* try to find it and failed. Not sure why, since apparently I'm the only one who failed. Or perhaps the rest of the members have just been around so long that they don't really remember how hard it was for them finding it the first time.

Oh, and 1500's what I had left. Shady wants a tad bit more. I'm not bitching about the fees either. I'm raising the money.

So, ultimately it all boils down to me flaming a little bit too much and innocent bystanders getting burnt blaming me (with all right). And I had to cool down.

I'm cool now. All chilly and stuff. I go stuf now. Buh-bye.

Also, I try hard to accomplish stuff on my own first, because in communities all over the net there are always njubs who don't even try once, but instead spam the boards with threads about obvious stuff. I don't want to be that person. I wanted to be as little of a burden as possible for anyone. How should I know that you're a bunch of masochistic samaritans? ;P Perhaps this community just isn't old enough that you've grown tired yet.

Sure I'm a cynic, but a realist one. Give it some more years and I'm sure slowly you will start grinding your teeth and eventually figure it's less of a strain on your patience to just write it all down in an all covering FAQ.

Thanks for the help though. I appreciate it and it makes you feel welcome. Don't be too generous with it.

Hehe yeah we have those newbies here too.

Thing is though, we will ALWAYS help a newbie who seems like they want to learn and make the effort to play. Most you can tell right away. Its the difference between someone coming on and going "Can ne1 tel mi who killed Ignatus" and asking an intelligent question, which you have before.

Never be afraid to ask anything of any of us (even me, despite what you may have heard). And as you know, bar chat is always a good option for help :)
