For heavens sake!! Write somewhere (in the FAQ for example) that the skill point gain is based on experience! This is HUGE, and it's not an obvious thing!

Had I known I wouldn't have been so desperate for cash now. Also I wouldn't have so crappy skills and equipment, and most importantly I wouldn't have accumulated two false accusations in my desperation to earn more cash and skill points.

Now I have about 1500 bucks. I need about 10k to get rid of my false accusations. Also the only piece of equipment I *ever* bought with this character is a snub nosed revolver for 3k. You can do the maths yourself. I'm devastated because I didn't know that skill points were xp generated..

:'(

Fortunately I'm no quitter and I will get back up. But I am severely pissed off that I got here in the first place.

Um, hate to say this, but that IS mentioned all over the place in the Newbie thread. Sorry. :-/

I do have a couple of suggestions. One, take low level cases and do every favor you can get your hands on to get your $10k. With twelve cases a day, plus favors, it shouldn't take very long to pay off your debt to Shady.

Second, I'd strongly suggest joining an agency at this point. They may be willing to help you out with your little problem, and even if they're not, someone will almost certainly throw some cases your way, thereby giving you a couple extra favors and making your $10-12k goal come that much quicker. Just make sure you tell your future employer UP FRONT about your current situation, please. Directors get somewhat nervous with new people in this particular situation, cause some have had a tendency to walk off with agency equipment and/or money, never to be heard from again. I trust you're not going to do that, since you've advertised your situation here.

Good luck, and keep Sleuthing!! You'll get through this, Mr. Palmer!! ;-)

Fionn it seems like you bolted into the game without paying attnetion to a lot of things. The newbie threads (especialy the great big sticky posts right at the top) are littered with help for Newbies such as NEVER GUESS.

Same goes for skills and equipment. Failing that the boards have a search engine... and it never fails to amaze me how many people miss the Help tab at the top of the page and the Newbie FAQ at the bottom of every page and on the Newbie boards.

Take your time, don't rush things. Read stuff and PM experienced players for help and advice.

And join and agency! Best advice I can give for finding like minded people willing to give help and advice.

And beleive me at 5 days old you've by no means stuffed things up!

And yeah, on this game... it pays to be a quitter. =)

The best advice there is on the site is to "NEVER GUESS!" A quit case will not affect anything gameplay wise but an FA will cost you money to clear out and the grave risk of retiral.

Ok. You guys are alright, but..

- I am in no way new here. I've been around for more than a year and thought I had figured out the ropes by now.

- I would *never* have guessed unless I was desperate. Like I said.

- And skill points being generated from experience? I beg your pardon but there is no sticky newbie thread about that and I can't find anything with the search function that everyone keep suggesting I use as if I was some infant who couldn't figure that one out for himself.

So, I honestly thank you from my heart for your concern, but please stop defending the system when it would be such an easy thing to write in either the help function, the newbie FAQ or a sticky on the boards that skill points are generated at certain amounts of experience.

Hmmm it may be hard to find, considering the number of threads out there, but when I started out and read the boards I am sure I luckily stumbled upon few posts about how skill points are commensurate to your experience until the maximum where it takes about 40k/50k? exp to gain 1 skill point.

I will attempt to threaddig (albeit, a weak forte of mine -.-) and get the links.

Actually Fionn, if you read the newbie thread, not the newbie faqs and read some of the posts not, just recent, you will find plenty of us sleuthers, myself included, where we have stated over and over that as your xp rises and you are able to do harder level cases, the fewer skill points you will accumilate, thus making them few and far between and take longer to get.

I'll post here when I look for the links :)

These are just some of the few, where we have constantly stated that the more your xp rises the longer it will take to get skill points.
