First off I don't know if this should be in the Newbie section or not as this is my second character (I still play the other one if you are curious). I picked a Very Smart archetype for my second character as a challenge. I currently have interrogation, intimidation, advance hair analysis, and thread analysis. Should I get intermediate interrogation, research or advance thread analysis next. I know the answer should be obvious but since I get smart points faster, I thought I would get inter. interrogation now while my experience is low.

I currently have 8 skill points that I can use right now or save.

I would recommend research. You can never get this skill to early. I wish I had gotten this skill ALOT earlier, it would have saved a lot of my earlier FA's.

I didn't get research for ages, even when I eventually got it, I forgot to use it most of the time. I think, even with IHs, you can get by without Research.
Myself, I'd go for Inter. Interrogation, or one of the other tough interview skills.

Research does automatically cross one suspect off the list though, meaning you save one or two questions.

If you're going to do more than IHs, at this stage then perhaps, I'd get Research.

And yep, I am aware most of you disagree and that's fine :)

LRC has a good point here actually in that we all harp on getting research. It is very important to get it early. BUT if you have already progressed to the point of needing Advanced Interro/Sweet talking to get answers out of suspects I agree with her that Research will not help as much.

Getting research early is better because the skill points come faster then and it is an expensive skill.

Definately reaserch. I wrote a topic about why reaserch is great here at the newbie faq. Check it out.
