That's right, folks. Ben, Sleuth Admin, the creator of Sleuth Noir, has agreed to another interview with myself.

In this exclusive interview, Ben will be answering questions about the upcoming game from Hypothetical Software; Sleuth: Shadows of Mystery.

On this thread, you can post any suggestions for questions you might have. The good ones will be taken and be pitted against each other in weekly polls on SleuthTips.com, where the interview will later be posted.

As always, Ben has the right to decline to answer a question, but you can be sure I will try to get as many questions answered about this new game as possible.

You can look here and on SleuthTips.com for updates on which questions are up for polls and which ones have already been chosen.

And without further adieu, let the question ideas begin!

It has been asked, but,
How do we get involved with beta testing?

also,

Will there be forums, chat rooms, and the social interaction like there is in Sleuth:Noir?

Will there possibility be a subscribers only chat area in either Noir or SoM? Preferably alongside an open chat for everyone.

Taken from sleuth tips:
'Early testing has already started. We will open up an application process in August for larger scale beta testing to start in September.'

It's August! :D

With the new screenshots of Shades of Mystery up, finally, I'm hoping to get many many more questions.

Please keep them coming. No question is too broad, specific, or dumb... Well, maybe they can be too dumb.

From now on, we'll be trying to put out these questions rapidly to get every question answered.

I would still very much like an answer to the many questions about subscription costs. It's a key issue and one that may well be a barrier to some so it'd be nice to know whether to sub for much longer in Noir or save pennies for SOM or whether (hope against hope) we can afford both or get a lovely discount for subbing to both.

There's still the key question of what role sound will play.

I understand the need for polls if the questions flooded in but I don’t really see the point of overlooking the good questions that have come in already. So how about putting those 2 up?

Stooby, the subscription details are still not finalized. We need to figure out how much money the game costs us to produce, and set the price in such a way that we can make back those costs.

As of now, the plan is to have SoM subscriptions work very similarly to the way they do on Sleuth Noir. You will be able to play for free without a subscription, but must pay for access to premium content, and for higher daily case limits. The pricing will be similar to Sleuth Noir, maybe a little more or less.

SoM subscriptions will be separate from Sleuth Noir subs. We will find some way to reward existing Sleuth Noir subscribers. We do not want to allow subscription transfers from Sleuth Noir to SoM, because we want to continue supporting Sleuth Noir and to do that we need subscribers playing both games.

We plan on offering significant discounts on SoM subscriptions to current Sleuth Noir subscribers. The way I anticipate this working is: the more time you have remaining on your Sleuth Noir subscription when SoM launches, the larger a discount you will receive on your first SoM subscription. In this way, somebody with 6 months left on the Sleuth Noir sub, will get a bigger discount for SoM than somebody who only has a few weeks left.

I should reiterate, that I can't promise any of this won't change before launch. SoM is an expensive project, and it will be priced in such a way to assure it can support itself for many years to come.

So I recently finished perusing the new screen shots that are up and I would like to know how time is going to play a role. I noticed that on the suspect file it said that the suspect is out of the house from 7a-4p, (I might have remembered the wrong times), and I also noticed that there was a case deadline so I'm just wondering how that's going to all play out.

Thanks Ben! Tentative answer but nice to know your present thoughts! Fingers crossed I can afford to sub to both!!!
