Hi, Berlin! Footprint analysis works automatically at the scene of the crime. It doesn't work 100% of the time though, unless you are tricked out in smart gear.
When it is effective, it will tell you if the evidence belongs to someone slim or heavy. You use that information to check with the foot person in town, just like you did before you had that tidbit, just now its likely to be a narrower suspect pool.
