Now that we have a post for trading and selling items and it's a part of the game, could the detective shop be used for this instead?

As it is right now, it's pretty redundant, the stuff in there is pretty much a waste of money too buy even for a new player.

It would make more sense and be so much easier if you could just use the Detective to buy, sell and trade.

I realise this would take some time and work to implement and it wouldn't be easy, but it seem nuts people having to leave their agencies and join another one to buy, sell and trade when there is a shop.

It would also mean that a newbie player who keeps getting Gold Bangles could trade anohter Newbie for the Chemistry sets they keep getting.

I know there was some opposition to this idea before and justified opposition but this is all going on now anyway.
And this will just make the whole process fairer and more open to everyone.

Maybe we can sell our unused skill points since it doesnt look like we will ever be able to use them.

The point I was making about selling the orbs was it would be a way of transferring gear from one detective to another during treasure hunts. No need to balance gear when hunting you can simple trade with someone back home for your smart gear. Then trade back to interview gear.

So make the stores be separate for each city. Different inventory in different places, as it would be in real life.

Block access to the detective store when an agency is on a treasure hunt OR someone is on a villain hunt.

Does the item in the pawn shop still count towards my total allowed items?
No, just as gear you might have that is stored in the agency locker isn't.

Can I retrive the item my self if it does not sell? Yes, there would probably be a time period.

What if the selling detective becomes retired? Like Biggie said, you lose it.

Is it all one large store? or seperate ones in each city? Doesn't really matter. I'd prefer that the same items are in the all the stores. If not, it defeats my original idea. That having to travel from one agency to another for gear is a waste of time and ideas.

Do you allow people to control who can buy an item? Anyone can buy whatever they want if they have the money. Go capitalism!!

And even if you want to buy Orbs while on a Treasure Hunt, more power to you.
Maybe you can't buy what you put on the market and if you want to remove stuff there is a 5 day period of waiting of something.
Or if you buy something while on a hunt you lose what you were wearing that it replaces. So that if on a hunt when you buy stuff you don't have the option to put things in the locker like you normally would.

Of course, Biggie said it best with, "This whole idea doesn't seem like it has to be oh so complicated as its being put out." and Roamie said it best with, "Block access to the detective store when an agency is on a treasure hunt OR someone is on a villain hunt. "

As for the balance issues, I think I have already addressed those as Squirrel mentioned them too. I also alluded to those aspects as I know they were raised in the past however people are trading/selling stuff and Sleuth has never been and will never be balanced.

To clarify: if you're travelling from city to city to check different items in store then it's the same as what is what is already happening now.

My personal feeling, and I'm sure that I'll be alone on this, is that I'm not keen on the idea of buying and selling or trading items. The idea of sleuth is to gain things yourself through your own effort and sleuthing. I sort of think that buying anything you want is somehow defeating the object.

I have to gain experience points and loyalty with a particular fraction to be able to buy some items from factions. It just seems to easy to go to the trading agency or wherever else is being suggested to just buy with no effort at all.

I've declined help from Lady Ruby and Lady Emerald for the same type of reason.

I've done the same with my business in real life - I started from nothing and have employed people as the business grew. I will remain both, in and out of sleuth, for various reasons, a small business/agency but I feel very proud that everything I've got I've got through hard work.

I'm not likely to get to the top of any lists but I'm still going to enjoy myself!

Ah, the good ol' days, Flautin. A time when people worked toward their riches, and guarded their sucess with zeal, expecting others to do so as well. Those are pretty much long gone. Free enterprise and all. Wish I could say I hadn't fallen into the trap of easy assistance as well...but I wisened up eventually. Won't be a flood of people rushing back to earn thier items, I'd guess.

Kudos to you though! Sounds like you are getting the most out of your time here!

I understand what you're saying flautim, and I think it's worthy and valid.
Many of the opposition to this before (and I agreed then) was the same as yours.
However, all this is already going on and it's not going to change anything.
All it would do it use an exsisting feature that is redundant for the purpose it should be intended for, that is, selling useful gear to people,
Since there is already a Trading Post, none of what I propose will change a thing except make it a little easier and in a lot of ways fairer.
One example, someone sold AV Gear to a newbie, the reason that newbie could do that was because they were subbed.
This one means that Newbies/unsubbed have the chance to buy, sell and
trade gear actually making more of this "balance" people keep talking about.

While, the idea of sleuth may have been to gain things yourself through your own effort and sleuthing this isn't how a lot of people play the game.

Why? Because the community often bands together to help each other out. I know of numerous occasions where someone in another agency has helped each other help. And this was even over a year ago.

Also while buying anything you want may somehow defeating the object, it's already happening. If you need proof, check out how popular the Trading Post is. Even before that was implented and even before that one on the boards, people already bought or traded things.
For example, if someone in Shanghai needed a Bloodhound, they'd talk to an agency in New York to see who wanted an Ivory Pipe.

I understand completely how you feel. My idea was merely because this already is happening, that a shop will make it more fair (that unsubbeds can buy things too) and that the redundant shop can now be a feature and be useful :)
