Now that we have a post for trading and selling items and it's a part of the game, could the detective shop be used for this instead?

As it is right now, it's pretty redundant, the stuff in there is pretty much a waste of money too buy even for a new player.

It would make more sense and be so much easier if you could just use the Detective to buy, sell and trade.

I realise this would take some time and work to implement and it wouldn't be easy, but it seem nuts people having to leave their agencies and join another one to buy, sell and trade when there is a shop.

It would also mean that a newbie player who keeps getting Gold Bangles could trade anohter Newbie for the Chemistry sets they keep getting.

I know there was some opposition to this idea before and justified opposition but this is all going on now anyway.
And this will just make the whole process fairer and more open to everyone.

I think a system like this would be a fairly good way to do this but this is just a rough idea.
1. You place an item for sale with a description you would like in return.
2. Then anyone who wants this item can bid and give offers.
3. The seller chooses the bidder he wishes to exchange with.
4. Both parties agree on the terms
5. Both parties receive the good or money, directly onto their avatar.

Sleuth-Bay, or should that be "sBay".

Or - this type of transaction could be arranged in the local bar as part of the Chat with Other Customers. Via PMs you agree which bar to meet in then go into a private booth to make your transaction. This might make the technical side a bit easier.

Yoyo,
That's kind of how I figured the Trading thing would work :)
Maybe there could be a trade option in the PM system.
So someone could click "Trade" then an equipment/item list would come up and you'd click which item you want to trade. The person at the other end then gets a Trade PM that they can agree or disagree with.
Maybe only items your wearing at the time could be traded.
Hmm, actually the more I think about the Trade the option the harder it seems to implement... and then it would it only be a Director's priviledge or what.
It would be nice if everyone had their only private lockers/inventory then their was still the agency stash :) that way it could work.

The sale thing would be much simpler.
You could just put the item in the store with a price that you want and hope someone buys it.
To be fair, I think there'd have to be a minimum sell price though that you couldn't go under.

Maybe let detectives sell at the shop and keep the trading post, I dunno :)
I just think the shop is underused. I have no actual real idea if this could work or how it would work or the effort it would take.

Ran:

''How do you control who gets to take what out of the detective shop? If you simply sell your gear there and it goes on sale to everyone then it becomes a "who clicks fastest" for gear.''

Well, do matter which citie's shop the gear was put into too, you could see the stock at any store. As different people play at different times, different gear would be in the shop at different times. Sure those in the US might have an avantage as more people are on at once but such is life. Also, if the individual detective can dictate their own price then someone might not want to snap up a Black Mink Coat at $100 000 000 whereas such other rich and (gullible) player might. Also, the more people that do this, and if you open this up to everyone, the more chance of there is of having more items on the market.

''How would the money be transferred between the detectives? Plus if you keep this as a subscriber only function (to be able to trade gear) you need in effect two stores. "

Well, you would buy something at the Detective Store and the money would go to directly to the Detective that put the item there.
Much like the Horse Races... a lot of people put money down then the relevant winnings go to the relevant people.
What would be required to happen here is the Detective Store have all the same functions of an Agency, and have some real person man and run the place.
And I am not sure what you mean about having two stores, but I think I answered this? If anything put into the store can be accessed from any other store. If this is not what you meant, I'm sorry. I misunderstood.

''Which actually comes back to what we have. Not the best, but it works out for the limited sort of economy we have here in Sleuth: Noir. "

Maybe, but this would make it less limited and actually add to the economy of the game :) (Cont.)

Also, it makes sense that you can use your Sleuth money to buy stuff other than apartments and paying off Shady. I think this could be a fun way to spend your money. As I stated earlier, the Detective Shop is supposed to provide gear but is redundant as the gear is either pretty crap or too expensive for new players. By the time they can afford stuff, they've usually gotten better.
This will take out the redundancy of the Detective and add some actual value to the economy. For example, why I thought of this was that in the locker with equipment list, it gives a value of everything including AV gear.
I was like, that is really stupid... why not put the REAL value on it.. it's not like you can sell it for that price.. you can only sell it for half price.
The shop would actually start to give a "real" value to things.

''This topic was discussed for the new game and we know there will be inventories, and other ways of dealing with this choices in that platform. ''

Well, I wasn't there so I know nothing about this :)
But I am talking about for this.. and I don't see how even if there is a new SLeuth how that means this can't be improved. Unless of course, the new Sleuth is supposed to take over this one.. I don't know anything about this at all so I can't really comment.

I play another online game (not nearly as wonderful as sleuth though) and people can list their items at any price they want and if someone buys it the money goes to the person who sold it automatically. I dont thingk programming would be that big of a deal if this other site does it, its a really simple game. But I'm not a programmer so I really dont know what I am talking about! :-)

AND I dont see how a detective shop can be anything like an agency. Its a store.

Firstly, let's get this out of the way... Let's not confuse Sleuth Noir the game we are playing now, with Sleuth II. They are two completely different things. Game advancement discussions for Sleuth II should be held on the Sleuth II Forum boards. :D Oh wait there isn't one of those yet... so... (if Ben tells us he's shutting down Noir when Sleuth II begins, all bets are off of course :p)

Now... Auction House for Sleuth. Having spent a few hours on the evil WoW recently I can see how having an open Market economy could work for Sleuth.

As long as ... people aren't going to get bent out of shape when somebody on 200XP (not 200,000 but 200) has full AV gear after a few days, coz their Director decided to kit them out.

There'll be some havoc on the scoreboards to be sure with fully kitted agency players flying along as opposed to the lone wolf newbie, or the relatively 'poor' new agency. It will kind of distort the tenous level playing field we still cling to.

Therein lies a justification for *coughs* another WoW like feature, setting levels for items. ie over 100,00k before you can wear AV gear. That's just a thought.

Otherwise don't see a problem with it. If I can make 'actual' cost of, what is it? $120,000 as opposed to $48,000 on AV gear that's great for me, who usually has AV gear to burn.

And it really won't change the market price for AI case gear, as those things come out a dime a dozen. But some favour gear, for the Shangri La faction favours, and like the white lab coat (still one of the best 'low' pieces of equipment going about) might sell well.

Squirrel out.
