How do you unlock themes( or backgrounds)? Do you have to subscribe or do you unlock them later in the game?

Actually, one DOES exist. It's called the Welcome Newbies thread, and it's stickied at the top of this Board. (Points up ^.) ;-)

And it's not that hard to look things up Ramses. We seem to be having this conversation a lot lately, the Sticky Newbie thread is a must for all... well Newbies! And the search thing is fine. You often get a much much quicker answer using it than you do posting even if you have to look at a few posts first.

Actually, I went through that thread. It seems a bit cluttered with deleted posts and such. I'll try again when I get a bit more time to try to sort through it. ;)

I still don't really get what the "theme" thing is. Is it just the background and appearance of the pages?

Themes. Change them via your Detective Page. They just change the game background. You can acquire them from various factions depending on your standing with that factions. There's at least one theme no-one has found yet.
