I didn't know where else to put this. How do I spend the money I earned by solving a case? Specifically, how do I buy clothes for my character?

Go to the detective store. You will also earn things by doing favors for the townies.

Alternate Opinoin:

Rather than spending money on clothing save it. You will eventually earn clothing by doing favors that is better than what you can buy in the store. Save your money for bribes and those hopefully infrequent visits to Shady.

Keep doing those favors, you will actually end up selling the gear you get there also. No such thing as too much money in the game.
