***This is my opinion. Strictly my opinion.***

I've looked at the community, and anyone who's been here longer than 100 days is able to see that Sleuth activity has gone down the tubes. Dead. And what is to blame? The agencies.

Now, agencies aren't the root cause. Let's get that straight. But the way they have been operating is. The problems with agencies are (1) the quantity, (2) the purpose, (3) and the role they play.

Okay, first, the quantity of agencies. Not too long ago, there were about 20-30 agencies. All full at 12 persons each, coming to a total of roughly 240-360 people. That was a good amount. But now, we have almost 120 agencies. That's right. 600% of the amount we had about a year ago. Sure, some may argue that the community has grown, and it certainly has. But 600% growth? I don't think so.

I've been thinking about this post (http://noir.playsleuth.com/map/cityhall/post.spy?id=10710&first_record=77313 ) for awhile in light of this one.

Then today someone asked me a question which made me think of this post again.

I think it's an interesting read and an insight into the past. It's also fun to see how things actually worked out when so many predicitions and worries about the future were bought up!

This is an interesting read almost 2 years later. Jojo had a premonition, it seems.

Even more interesting when you think of the timing of this post and other events that were taking place during and prior to this.

Does seem to make sense. Although I wonder if the new sleuth game also took part of the community away. What were the events going on during this time?

Well happy. There are a lot of different opinions in this thread, all of which offer some different explanations of what was going on with the community because it seemed to be dying a bit. But it was still active, especially compared to today's standards, just dropping off.

The interesting events that I was referring to was that Shades was announced on June 15-17 at Sleuth Con. And Ben had been working on it for several months prior to that, I believe. I just found it interesting in reading this thread that people had been appearing to get bored with the game around the same timeframe that Ben switched his focus to Shades. Was just thinking in hindsight that maybe because there weren't any new expansions in the 6 months prior to this thread, that people were beginning to get bored. And was even thinking that maybe everything was getting a bit heated (which is why some people left) because there was nothing new in the game to keep them distracted from bickering ;) Maybe we are witnessing this a bit now too;-)

I just found it interesting to go back and understand the climate of that time.

Interesting discussion. I think it's normal when there is a large community of people competing against each other that a little bickering will happen. And while some people may have left because of that, I don't think that is the reason why there seems to be a huge drain in the Sleuth community. You may be right, Nic, that the new game coupled with the increase in agencies might have discouraged new members or people resubbing.

In respect to your idea Hannah, I dont particulary like that idea, of having already made agencies by the Admins. That is too gamish to me, in my opinion, and takes away some of the freedom and realism of Sleuth.

I also dont like the idea of resetting the game, if that means my detective also going back to scratch. Ive worked hard to get where Im at with my detective right now, and I sure don't want to have to go back and do it all over again. I dont think that is the answer. Why would older detectives want to go back and redo everything? Might be exciting for the newer ones, but not for the older ones who have built up their detective, and put alot of time and effort into them.

Ive been here since 2005, and Im not bored yet. If new things are added, great...Im all for it....but to start from scratch, heck no.

Just my humble opinion and feelings.

added note: To your comment "its just a game....".......to some it may be JUST a game but there are alot of us who feel passionate about our detectives....and are proud of what we've accomplished with them...its more than JUST a game to me...and I would not want to start over, and do it all again. What would be the point in that? Again, for newer ones, that would be great for you....for the older ones, who have been there, done that, not so exciting. Again, just my opinion.
