EDITORIAL: Agencies to Blame?

***This is my opinion. Strictly my opinion.***

I've looked at the community, and anyone who's been here longer than 100 days is able to see that Sleuth activity has gone down the tubes. Dead. And what is to blame? The agencies.

Now, agencies aren't the root cause. Let's get that straight. But the way they have been operating is. The problems with agencies are (1) the quantity, (2) the purpose, (3) and the role they play.

Okay, first, the quantity of agencies. Not too long ago, there were about 20-30 agencies. All full at 12 persons each, coming to a total of roughly 240-360 people. That was a good amount. But now, we have almost 120 agencies. That's right. 600% of the amount we had about a year ago. Sure, some may argue that the community has grown, and it certainly has. But 600% growth? I don't think so.

ok, my two cents worth.

many problems are perceptual. Many problems do not exist until someone perceives there to be one. There have been many changes to the game. AVL hunts were added and many people who used to participate in Treasure Hunts are now pursuing AVL hunts instead or in addition to. Problem is that there are only so many hours in a day and we just can't do it all.

Community wise- well... I'm just not here as much. There are several reasons for that. One is personal and has to do with my health and the fact that I work 2 jobs and am going to school full time also. The other is that I simply got sick and tired of reading the slams from people who seem to feel that no one should have a differing opinion from theirs as well as the level of petty vindictiveness and an inability of some to allow others to make mistakes. So, I quit feeding the Trolls.

This has also had an effect on my game playing. without that sense of community I had I also lost some of my desire to play... I can't deny also that there was a level of burnout. I was playing 12-16 hours a day for nearly the first year of play. So... I'M not treasure hunting. And considering I'm usually the lead hunter in my agency, that seems to affect the agency's hunt quotient. Perhaps it's time to look at the agencies that are usually in the forefront of Treasure Hunting and see why THEY may not be hunting. Sure there is a 600% increase in agencies. Divide that by the number of agencies participating in hunts and you're going to see a definite drop in the percentages.

The only real problem I see is that Sleuth is growing. And I think that is a problem of perception. Games grow, communities change. As they grow they splinter off into smaller (yet growing) communities. Another game I've played has Guilds of 9-300 members. These are communities within the larger game. Sleuth is changing, that is a given. It will continue to change as it grows and we as a community will grow

okay, so in the interests of reorienting things here, let's pull out one issue and simplify:

What are some ways people can think of to make treasure hunting more competitive? (which'll suck for me, I loved winning like 60 in three months with SMRT, lol!)

*competitive...

obviously ben and sunny dont see it as a problem, again they have the final say, and if there is no roblem with them, then we all should stop complaining for what we have and dont have on sleuth and what we want to see happen here. Just be gald we have a great place to interact with players from all over the world!

Rhiemma, it may be perceptual, but I think that it's worth finding out if I'm crazy in my perception?

crunch, I'm not sure if the problem is that they aren't competitive enough, rather that there is no longer any competition.... Does that make sense?

and change with it. Not always for the better, but not for the worst either. Change is inevitable and much preferred to stagnation, but it can be pretty scary.

As has been said before, this is MY opinion. I value and appreciate all opinions expressed here and do not necessarily think any of them are right or wrong. They are opinions and we can agree or agree to disagree. It's that simple.

Maybe Ben and Sunny do see it as a small problem? --- We don't exactly know.

I'm not complaining... okay, maybe I am. But it's not about what we have/don't have. It's not something I'm begging Ben for because I want it. It's something I think we need to fix.

::chuckles:: as Crunch said... that's what happens when I take 30 min to write a post

and no, Jojo. I don't think you're wrong to ask the question. I simply see it differently. But, if you didn't ask the question, either someone else would in the future or heaven forbid, no one would. I prefer questions be asked. :D I just don't always agree with the answers or see the problem.

Hmmm... the idea of change/growth fits in.

I think we may be at the point where we're starting to grow, so things are changing. But we don't have enough people to fill in all the spots (enough to VH and enough to treasure hunt), so we're sorta stuck in the middle?
