This thread is for ideas, suggestions, proposals, etc. NO idea is too silly to mention :) although some might be too impractical to implement.

As possibilities become probabilities, I will create another thread for the Con itself and concrete facts/decisions/information.

No final plans have been made. The city or date have not been picked yet.

I am working on a full Gen Con proposal, but that is just one of the ones we are turning in.

One of the reasons to host it through them is actually that the hotel prices are fixed to avoid the problem Biggie mentioned. All reservations go through the Convention organizers, who set the prices each can charge.

If there are more suggestions now is a good time to bring them up. I know Rhie has a couple of people working on other options right now.

My two cents, for what they're worth....

1. Internet access would be a plus, but no, I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary. I’d rather have a place to stay that’s nice and a good deal, over having to have internet access. We had internet access at the hotel for this last convention, and it rarely worked in my room.
2. I’m fairly flexible about where the accommodations are. If they’re in a metropolitan area, great. If it means I have to find alternate transportation to get there, I can do that. Either way works for me.
3. Again, I’m flexible. Convenience is nice, but I’ve done quite a bit of traveling on bare-bones necessities. As long as I have a bed, a reasonably hot shower, and running water for plumbing, I’m a happy camper. The rest is gravy. ;-)

Regardless of wherever the next SleuthCon is held, what kind of accommodations are found, and what area of the country (or world) it's set in, 99.99% of us are gonna be doing some traveling. Bottom line, people, get used to it. Start saving your sofa change and Big Mac money now. Everyone has a year to plan and save up for this--there are no surprises about when or if this will be coming.

If SleuthCon 2 turns out to be in one area of the country, the next year it WILL be in the area that got short-changed. The planners and organizers are doing everything they can to make sure that the convention is the best value for the money that it can be (just like the first one was).

There are ways to work around money problems (carpooling, budget hotels, discount airfares, etc.). Bottom line, if you want to come to SleuthCon 2, you've got a year to prepare and plan. The only thing holding people back is the desire to do it.

::chuckles:: true, if a bit blunt. We are doing our best. We have until September to try to come up with a firm plan of when and where. This is an arbitrary deadline, but a deadline nonetheless. And I'm still looking for suggestions. If you find a place that you think would be a great place to hold SC II PLEASE! post it here or pm me. :)

I'd still like to give a murder mystery train adventure a try. But this story was FUN!

::chuckles:: I would love to do a murder mystery train adventure also... unfortunately, it's a bit cost prohibitive for us to do as a part of SleuthCon. Most run about $70-90 per person. I would REALLY love to do the 6 day trip on the American Orient Express someday that runs up the West Coast from California to Oregon. (if it's still running... having a problem finding viable links for it)

I have been watching the different comments about the gathering. I know you won't have anything firm until September, at that time I will request leave from work. Sure wish I could have attended this year, the photo's proved that you had lots of fun. Thanks for all of you that are working on this, it is appreciated.
